It's more profitable for Real Madrid to buy him back for €8mil and sell him to Man United for let's say €40mil, which you can spread over 4 years, than to trigger a release clause in which Real Madrid gets 50% of it from the sell-on clause, and United would have to pay all €35mil up front. It's a win-win situation for both clubs and it eliminates Girona from the equation
