  • Join me for a behind-the-scenes look at a typical overnight call shift as a senior SRNA (Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist)! From setting up trauma rooms to assisting in emergency craniotomies, this vlog takes you through the highs and lows of a 16-hour shift in the operating room.
Starting at 3 PM, I hit the ground running by preparing the trauma room, emergency craniotomy room, and neurointervention room for any potential cases. After touching base with the first call person, I jumped in to help wrap up the scheduled cases for the day.
Around 7:30 PM, I retreated to the on-call room to catch up on homework while staying on standby. However, the night took a turn when I was called in for a stroke case around 11 PM. With no hesitation, the team sprang into action, and we successfully managed the case.
But the night wasn't over yet - immediately after, we dove into another stroke case, working tirelessly until 5 AM. Exhausted but fulfilled, I grabbed an hour of sleep before heading home.
Experiencing the intensity and unpredictability of an overnight call shift as a senior SRNA has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding. Join me as I share insights, reflections, and the sheer excitement of working in the operating room at all hours.
