Diesel - Sausalito Summer Nights

- Blast from the past! Excellent tune about a summer road trip gone awry. Though released in the very early 80's, it has all the feel good hooks and harmony of a 70's tune. My guess that it was probably written in the early/mid 70's. Diesel had a few other great tunes, but this one charted to medium success that was nowhere near what it could have been in 1978... nowhere near what it deserved.
I feel sorry for people that dont like this
Fantastic music video thank you lakeside rocker 66!
My best song, I sit on my porch and play this song.
......early 80's.......back when music was fun, life had endless possibilities and then I got old without even noticing.........😦........bummer......thanx to CZcams I can be 20 years old again for awhile.....do not recall MTV ever airing a video of this......
Amen. Where did the time go?
I heard this song on the radio about 10 years ago....and I realized I had forgotten it but the memories came flooding back to me. I won't ever forget it again.
happy energy song for hiking driving working o cars , skiing partying
A friend of mine had a 66 rambler. He put in a killer stereo and we used to drive around blasting this song. Ahhh...
Still digging this song 35 years later -- hard to believe it's been that long!
Going to throw her in the bay!
Real feel good song, driving tune. Pics depict good moods, I miss 70s and 80s.
We, that were there, all do. If I could go back, I would already be there!
Top song from the netherlands😊
I hadn’t thought of this song in years, but on my first trip to the Bay Area I found myself driving my friends boat underneath the Golden Gate, and this song popped in my head & wouldn’t leave!!! It was a catchy riff in 1981 on my ski boat in Tennessee & still is! Gotta find an old rambler when I get back to Cali🎸🚤🚗
When I listen to this song brings me back to my muscle car Era, crusing, hot rodding around , smoking some weed 👌
1981 was a lot better than today. It had its negative times but it was good for me.
What a great summer tune this was! Specially back in the early 80s love it.😃👍
my dad LOVES this song and now I've got it stuck in my head!
love this old song... my 14 years old happy old times of skate and pinball!
Saw Diesel live yesterday, played this song. Just two of the original band, but still the sound and great fun.
One of my all time favs. Had an old beau look for this album for me back in 1984. Such good memories associated with this song!
Great song. GREAT SONG! Brings me back to the 70s with it's upbeat tempo and great guitar 🎸 riffs...JP
This song is soooo bad azz! 👍
I heard this song in late summer of 1981.
Heard this song and Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" all summer long that year in 1980, on our own road trip with college buddies up from Orange County taking the I-5 to the Delta on a house=boating camping trip, drank a lot of beer to this song, as the radio was playing it on heavy rotation.
I have Always liked this song and the slide show seems to bring you back to times long gone by
Love this song. It's terrific. And btw 35 years?????????????? OMG! Not possible. But maybe......LOLLLOLLLOLLLOL!!!!!
Excellent compilation of pictures to go with the sound!
Diesel was a Dutch rockband. i actually still have their vinyl LP album. US Rock was pretty big in the Netherlands and many Dutch rockbands took inspiration from the US (westcoast) rock scene. The members of Diesel were all experienced skilled (studio) musicians.
read more here (in Dutch) : nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_(band)
Shocking blue, Golden Earring and Focus were also Dutch bands. Lots of talent from that area of the world.
@@slantsix6344 Golden Earring is STILL going strong!
Ah, yes, the 80's. It seemed like every couple months, there'd be a new country that had acts top the charts in the US. During the Dutch rush, we got Diesel, Stars on 45, Taco (?) and Golden Earring. I definitely loved this song and the B-side, "Bite Back." They tried to hit again with "Going Back to China," but by then the charts were raging over Australian acts.
I used to love this song, I hadn't heard it in over twenty years until now. Great tune.
Hitchhiking back from Alberta in1975, I got a lift from a van with California plates in Northern Ontario. A guy crashed out in the back and 2 chicks up front. Neither was beautiful but they were so different from any chicks I had ever met. Beach Boys were spot-on, I wish they all could be California girls. I started telling them Neuffie jokes and had them laughing themselves silly. Some of the most fun I've ever had, just cruising down the North roads, laughing like mental cases. 47 years ago. Time has flown...
1981....post-disco-pre-80's pop....wow
I love this song I've been to Sausalito its a nice coastal town
This song is so great- someone has needed to make a video for it for a long time! I was in Waikiki that summer- the local rock station advertised the catamaran booze cruise constantly- it was the must do event in town. When you approached the berth "all aboard... all aboard" was playing over the PA. A great welcome... so much booze! So many girls!!! A four hour cruise turned into an eight hour night with four So. Cal girls we met that night! I'll never forget this tune!!!! ;) THX!
Cruising music. Fire up the old muscle car and blast the music...
Loved this song such a great groove remember one of my favorite songs to rollerskate to.☮️
"The engine's thumping like a Disco"
Correct Lyrics:
We left for Frisco in your Rambler
The radiator running dry
I've never been much of a gambler
and had a preference to fly..
You said "forget about the airline,
let's take the car and save the fare."
We blew a gasket on the Grapevine
and eighty dollars on repairs..
(Chorus)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard..
Hot summer night in Sausalito
Can't stand the heat another mile
Let's drop a quarter in the meter
and hit the sidewalk for a while
I'll have a burger and a root beer
You feed the heap some of the grape
A shot of premium to boot dear
We'll get across the Golden Gate..
(Chorus)
All aboard (Sausalito Summernight)
All aboard (Sausalito Summernight)
All aboard (Sausalito Summernight)
All aboard..
Another mile or two to Frisco
200 gallons from L.A.
Thee engine stompin' like a disco
We ought to dump her in the bay..
(Chorus)
All aboard (Sausalito Summernight)
All aboard..
Cashin' all my checks
Straightenin' out my bank
Spend it on a Rambler
with a whirlpool in the tank
Look out over here
Watch out over there
Can't afford a blowout
'cause we haven't got a spare..
(Solos)
(Chorus)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard (Sausalito summernight)
All aboard..
(Fading chorus)
Hot summer night in Sausalito
(Sausalito Summernight)
Hot summer night in Sausalito
(Sausalito Summernight)
Hot summer night in Sausalito
(Sausalito Summernight)
Hot summer night in Sausalito
(Sausalito Summernight)
Hot summer night in Sausalito
(Sausalito Summernight)
Hot summer night in Sausalito
(Sausalito Summernight)
Hot summer night in Sausalito
(Sausalito Summernight)
..
The first time I heard this song, I thought for sure it was the Steve Miller Band. Sounds exactly like them not only in voice, but style as well.
SAME!!!
You don't know your 70's, 80's not even close to Steve Miller. I'm a guy who grew up in those decades, listened to this and Steve over and over.
@@pwc7475 hey, I do not want people to start getting pissed because we made a mistake and as well 60s,70s,80s and 90s is what I listen to.
P.S I listen to enough Steve Miller to know his style
@@ben_automotive Sorry man not pissed, just don't see it, my opinion, right or wrong.
@@pwc7475 ok I understand and everyone can have opinions and you are forgiven and nobody is mad
Great video!
Excellent group and song 🎵 too !
This is a nice pick me up song. !!!! 》 I live in SF an would not live elsewhere,Sad no women true but meeting these folks beets the he'll out of places elsewhere. Thanks Sf, .A# 1 problem an it's a duster pain .NO WOMEN An important takin a bad hurting in that category,60 years young gonna leave soon enough no rush 》 JEN.
got a hell of a lot of air play here in S.A. Tx. Love it still ,yet so very familiar. Aaaaahh the damn good ole days! ! !
Those were the Old KISS FM days with Tempe Lindsey (DJ). I remember!
It got a ton of airplay in Erie PA too!
A band called Kayak has a couple original members that does this also. Amazing!
Heard on AFN radio when this song came out interview. This was a true story that happened to this group in the late 1970's while touring in the US from their native country Holland.
Nice video!
I was about 9 when this song hit the USA and I love this song, especially the guitar solo! No blackened up gothic long-haired blurry lightning-fast speedy death metal solo; no flannel shirt wearing overdistorted tone deaf rinky-dink angst-filled Seattle grunge crap either! Just a simple yet effective beautiful guitar solo!
Perhaps if a lot of today's bands would take a note of groups like Diesel and not constantly shock us into liking them most of today's music probably wouldnt suck like it does! Just my 2 cents......
absolutely a great solo, you remember the babys midnight rendevous?
***** Oh yes I do! Mr. John Waite and the boys...another great song by another great band!
@@phayzyre1052 if you look at the original vid. , that hot guitar player is wearing flannel.
@@robrickels3788, you must be talking about this here: czcams.com/video/JegomkWNSY4/video.html
His name is Mark Boon and one thing I'll say about Mark; at least he knows how to play a guitar as well as colorful guitar solos whereas most grunge clowns that don flannel garb only know how to play rinky-dink power chords through a tone deaf loud-as-hell over-distorted amplifier!
@@phayzyre1052 to be precize, there are two fanastic solo guitarists there. The first ingenius solo is played by Mark Boon ( who made the text and lived in LA), and the second solo after that is by Rob Vunderink who invented the catchy repeating riff of the song.
still makes me smile-most of us have had a junker at one time or another that drained our pockets dry!
Great job. Love the Pictures from the past. Happy I am not the only one that remembers this tune and likes it :)
I enjoyed watching those vintage pics go on while this cool song played! Nice job putting this together. Thank you. I've got their album "Watts In A Tank". And yes, there are other good songs this band performed. Very, very underrated Diesel is.
Sure captured the California scene, and loving it!
Very great images... on perfect extended-play song. 🌞
Groovey
Yeah Baby!!!
Great song set to a generation that started the decline of America
The engine's thumping like a Disco!
Great one hit wonder if the 80s!
This song always makes me smile! Too bad they wont play it on air. OH well sucks to be them! Radio is on its way out! Freaking good riddance.
I hear this AWESOME tune occasionally on some classic rock stations in Cleveland, OH. In fact, had this tune buzzin around in my brain a few weeks ago. I typed in 4 lyrics; "the radiator runnin dry" on Google and BAM there it was. I now start my mornings jammin to this iconic tune. Yup, the webs good for something!!! PEACE
Thx for this!
In Stephen King's book IT (1986), Bill Denbrough is shown to be a fan of this song.
Another great tune from a time when music was great and made you feel something good inside.
That Bass tho🤣🤣🍭🍭
Discovering this thanks to Stephen King. “He had bought it for Audra in a Burbank leather-goods store while “Sausalito Summer Nights” played on the radio in the back room.”
Heerliijk Nederlands pareltje! Tijdloos goed.
who didn't take a trip like this in the 70s?
thanxs for putting up video i remember this song as when singles and i mean lp 45 rpm were around so this track i belive released in 1979.
Great vid!
From Caltrans, "Most travelers think the portion of I-5 called the Grapevine begins at the north end of Castaic in the Santa Clarita Valley where the freeway begins a northerly climb at Parker Road -- and where the California Highway Patrol closes the freeway when snow or icy conditions northward prohibit safe travel.
What cool fun song.
This song only hit #25 in the U.S. I thought it would be a top 10 for sure. It hit #1 in Canada.
Agreed. Had this song been released four or five years earlier it probably would've been a mega hit.
I LOVED IT!
This really sounds like book of dreams era Steve Miller Band.
Great collection of stills. Many thanks. Oh yeah, the tune rocks.
Outstanding job, lakeside! Thank you for taking the time to put this together, you really captured the flavor.....
Well done!!!!
This must be one of the best videos on here !! 🔥❤️

Awesome video !
Nice job LakesideRocker! Love the song and video, great pictures.
_Silver Mine_ got some radio play also. The other song from the album I liked was _Good Morning Day._
The perfect freestyle moguls ski song. Get rad!
Fantastic slide show rendition buddy! Love the 60 second guitar solo at 3:10
Rambler? ... what a flashback! Hahaha!!!!
I swear I remember listening to this song in the car but I thought it was in the 1970's
Nice
U did a great job. love finding this old shit on the Tube.
Ya know how a song sometimes sticks in your head?
Well this was mine for today -
Wasn't this just the other day?
BWAHAHA!!!
in a few dati we will be in san Francisco form Milano
All a board Sausalito summer...
i want a classic VW transporter !!
in a few days we will be in san Francisco from Milano
Been to Sanfrancisco and Sausalito many times. Sanfrancisco used to be beautiful, beautiful sites, great restaurants, great shopping, now it's nothing but a shithole. Years ago, you could walk anywhere in the city and be safe. Now, The Castro, Tenderloin, Union Square, Haight/Ashbury is filled with nothing but vagrants and homeless that accost everyone. Streets are filthy, cars constantly broken into, drugs everywhere, crying shame for what once was a great city.
Well I'm sure people were bitching about SF when the hippies and drugs were overrunning that city.
What an excellent video, thank you. Is it just me or do the vocals have a Steve Miller sound to it?
one hit wonders right?
Yep. But album had plenty of potential hits.
No, they were a two hit band, actually.
It shows a picture of Virgin America aircraft, which did not start until 2007.
I'm putting together a playlist of songs that you can play in your car.
So far I've got:
This one
"Lowrider"
"Radar Love"
"Rockin' down the highway"
"Red Barchetta"
"I heard it through the grapwvine" (C.C.R)
I just need some others.
Can you help me out?
I think I'll call my playlist "Car Tunes".
otra chingona
I agree lakesiderocker
Well the intro channels Crossroads by Cream, mixed in with Jet Airliner by the Steve Miller Band.
Descobri esta música lendo "It, a Coisa".
es la cancion de mi estadio de futbol SAUSALITO del EVERTON de viña del mar
Amazing song! Rambler's were cool cars . Much prefer a 73 Trans Am but hey .

Thank You, I swear vocals are Stevie "Guitar" Miller
