The ATA ARMS Airborne .22 Part Three

  • In this video I have adjusted the trigger weight to see if it improves the accuracy of the rifle. Again, there is no first stage pull at all, making it a single stage trigger as it stands. The trigger pull comes straight up against the trigger resistance, but it breaks easier than before, making the shots a little more predictable and closing up those groups with the first set of pellets. This gave me the confidence to shoot reactive targets at 50 and 60 yards.
    Dennis is taking the rifle back to the RFD and will then decide on whether to get a replacement ATA Airborne or a different rifle based on what he finds with the replacement.
    Air rifles are strange things. They should all shoot as expected, but the same brand, model and caliber can all end up with their own little differences. When the problems become a regular problem, and rifles are returned to the dealers, that is when the upgrades are made to the Mk2 rifles, which is a shame, as the end user is usually the one that has paid the cost for these upgrades and will probably not buy the brand again. The best advice that I can give you is to return the rifle to the dealer under warranty so that it can be either fixed or replaced. The end result will be a happy customer.

      I have the newer version with the thick black trigger and noticed any amount of adjusting the trigger screw thro the stock was having little affect on the trigger , I sorted this by changing the grub screw to a 2mm longer one as the one , now have a very light trigger 👍🏻 obviously don't screw in too far as the gun won't cock, and do a bump test afterwards

    Good video Mark. Just reiterates that minor adjustments can and do make a big difference.
    Doesn't seem as pellet fussy now trigger is adjusted.

    Mark, how did you adjust the trigger? I have tried on mine and it does not seem to make much of a difference. there did not seem to be any resistance when turning the grub screw. did you go clockwise or anti-clockwise?

      Did it have 1st stage travel? Adjusting the weight of pull has made a big difference. Polishing the trigger sears would also help.

    It must be that gun Mark, Alpha Militaria and even RacknLoad love the trigger, and according to ATA it is a 2 stage (Adjustable two-stage trigger with safety 0.8kg (1.76lbs) - 1.3kg (2.8lbs))

      @airgunsniper-elite7385  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, that trigger is definitely not as described in the information, but definitely tightened up the shots trigger after weight adjustment.

    Thats better , you can trust the good old HADES too come through ( only in .22 though ) webleypell excellent anawl .. must get my hands on a tin of them 18+ grn JSBs .. dont usually shoot my R10 or FX Typhoon .. but might have a .22 day down the range .. although I know the R10 is knocking nearly 13fpe ( till I get it lowered ) will take chronograph just to re-check . Think its worth a punt if your in the market for another rifle , and work your magic on the trigger ..

    I collected my ATA Airborne last week and agree with you - the trigger is a single stage unit. It is a tad heavy , but has no creep. I had to pull a dozen or so patches through the barrel to clean the protective gunk they coat it in at the factory. After cleaning, it was doing pellet on pellet at 35 yds bench-rested.This was with Accupel and AA Field 5.52mm. Did you clean the barrel on yours before your tests ?

    • @airgunsniper-elite7385
      @airgunsniper-elite7385  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, I did clean the barrel after receiving it from Dennis, as I had forgot to ask him if he'd cleaned it. The pull through was really black to start off with. What improved my accuracy was to adjust the weight of the trigger through the trigger guard. It would probably help to strip the rifle down and polish the trigger, but they shouldn't be advertising them as 2 stage if there's no first stage travel. Glad that you have confirmed that yours is the same. It would be interesting to hear from other users to see if they have a few bad batches. I have heard some saying that their triggers are good. This rifle is only about a week old as well.

  • @allanwilliams2768
    @allanwilliams2768 Před 2 lety

    I have found that the trigger isn't two stage on my ATA Airborne, no matter how much I have tinkered with the grub screw, going in and out on the adjustment. I really like the gun, it is very accurate with RWS Superfields, over 200 shots, very well built, very smooth action with pushing the pellet in to the barrel unlike some of my more expensive guns

    • @airgunsniper-elite7385
      @airgunsniper-elite7385  Před 2 lety

      Yes, it's a shame they couldn't improve the trigger, as this would improve accuracy overall. I expect the next generation will include a trigger upgrade. A trigger sear polish could help a lot.

    • @allanwilliams2768
      @allanwilliams2768 Před 2 lety

      @Airgun Sniper-Elite if you're using the gun all the time you get used to the trigger but when you are switching guns ,guns with proper two stage triggers it can catch you unawares.I don't tackle triggers unless i really have to,too many little bits to fly across the workshop

    • @airgunsniper-elite7385
      @airgunsniper-elite7385  Před 2 lety

      @@allanwilliams2768 Yes, it's always best if you stick to one rifle. That way you know it inside out and can adjust to the rifle. I have too many in reality, budget ones that I have worked on and top end, but when I pick up a top end Daystate you can feel the difference, but it doesn't mean to say that it can make you a better shot, but does make it easier to get a good result over my budget rifles.

      Others have not had this trigger issue, which would give it high scores for value for money and performance. Like all rifles at any price range they can slip through the net. These things should be check by the dealers before sale.
