    I'm Argentinian. And believe me: it hurts us to all. We are united with Leeds forever. Because football is that: risk. Go forward. Not giving up. But for that, you need to have resources and a whole team convinced with you: and the current players no longer believed in Marcelo and turned their back on him. They should have resisted. Having fought for someone who never betrayed them. There are players in Leeds who come from the Championship and with Bielsa, they continued to play: that is loyalty. Bielsa was beaten by teams with millions of euros ahead. And with Bielsa they could save the season. God luck Leeds.

    I've supported Leeds (and watched football) for 55 years, and apart from the exciting brand of football that Marcelo Bielsa has given us, the things that will stick in my mind are (1) The disbelief in how we battered Stoke in his 1st competitive match (2) When he instructed his team to let Villa walk the ball into our goal (I've never seen ANY team do that before!) (3) He NEVER EVER criticised the referee or VAR for some ridiculous decisions imo. The guy was/is on a different planet in football terms and integrity to any other manager. MOT!!

    I'm old enough to remember Revie onwards leaving, and I can honestly say that this is unique. The selflessness and moral authority MB demonstrated throughout his tenure, should have been rewarded by the club demonstrating the same characteristics. I honestly thought the standards he demonstrated had been inculcated through all levels, and I'm bitterly disappointed that wasn't the case. He came to Leeds when he didn't need to, and unfortunately the club didn't demonstrate the same level of loyalty and moral authority.

      Leeds gave Bielsa a big salary when they did'nt have to.They gave him enough chances to turn things around. Did u enjoyed getting hammered week in week out and did'nt know were the next win was coming from. Plus 2points from the drop. The players gave up playing for him. They were probably knackered from the intense training.

  • @bernardthegwp71020
    @bernardthegwp71020 Před 2 lety +27

    Followed Leeds for 50 years followed them home, away, Europe, pre season games, tv and listened on radio more downs than up, finals, semi final, play off and relegation heartbreak. Great days and seasons too, winning titles and promotions, superstar players along the way, Revie, Wilko,O'Leary and Grayson giving us unbridled joy.
    I remember him coming to Leeds in the Summer of 2018 and giddy as a child at the start of the 6 weeks holidays because I had followed his carer and my mates asking "who is he" and telling everyone who would listen that he will leave within 6 weeks or will walk on Roundhay lake by the time he leaves.
    I have never felt this way about anything to do with LUFC in my life.
    It is more than Football what he did to the City, he got the City back together and give us pride once more, I myself had a lot of apathy when we played, I wasn't bothered about getting beat by QPR or Blackburn it was so matter of fact. Now I back hating other teams when we play them.
    Like John said it's the little things like seeing him in Morrisons and watching him in De'Angelos in Wetherby having a pint of Peroni on his own.
    I know he will not see this but just thank you just thank you for giving me my pride back.
    MOT 💙💛

    Having been a fan through the Revie years and everything that followed it, i can't express to me how much Marcelo means to me and what he has done for the club.
    It wasn't the winning that made me love him, it was the cavalier approach, how we attacked teams where most teams just park the bust and hope to lose 1 or 2 nil.
    It's about how he made Leeds popular with the neutrals, and had people enthusing over our football. He made me love football again.
    For me he was the best, the Special One, and we will miss him

  • @sergeantsodom6969
    @sergeantsodom6969 Před 2 lety +11

    He was more than a manager, he imbued the spirit of what a good human should be. He transcended the typical "Manager" role, and felt more like a dad to us all, the dad some of us never had. He was the epitome of passion, devotion and knowledge, and know what this club and city meant to him makes me feel privileged to have had a manager like him. There is nobody else i'd rather have, and he gave us some beautiful memories.
    What kills me most, is watching him hug his assistant for about 20 minutes after beating Burnley, things seemed like they were on the turn... I remember saying, it felt like he was fighting for his place at the club, he kept saying he knew he wasn't invincible on the interviews, and though many were calling for his head- I dont think anybody really imagined him going the way he did.
    It wasn't long ago, I was saying "How the fuck are we going to do this without him" when he finally goes, and feeling lucky to have this man - wondering "How the fuck did Leeds manage to get his interest? Why Leeds? He's too good for us".
    And now all that is gone. Jesse march resumes the role of manager, not role model or father. (Who knows)
    Goodbye Marcelo, and thank you for giving me something to look forward to, being trapped in living on my own during covid, with nobody. Depressed, struggling and suicidal, I looked forward to the prospect of us beating the teams higher up in the table and the entertainment, alongside the companionship of feeling a part of something different.

You guys, and the content you've created, goes hand in hand with the Bielsa era, and I'm thankful for the work you put in to keep us entertained and united in our support. Bielsa should have been given to the end of the season this just feels wrong on every level. He had so much credit in the bank with us all I feel the Board have got this completely wrong and betrayed all the principles we’d all embraced. Phil Hay has betrayed us too with his tweets at the final whistle so its compounded the hurt. As you said we just want him to be happy and be able to look back on his time here fondly. Devastated is not too strong a word for how I’m feeling and a big part of that is knowing we’ll never experience this again. Absolutely love the guy, Gracias Marcelo.

    Just found 'The Square Ball' searching around for reflections on Mr Bielsa. You've got it spot on gentlemen. I'm 61, turned off for years by the way people, TV, pundits ignore the cheating, the rolling around on the pitch, the fouls that never were etc. etc in modern football. The Kings new clothes I call it. Thanks to Mr Bielsa's whole approach, I too have fallen back in love with Leeds Utd's football club. Feelings I'd long forgotten since Revie and that team. The reality is we've had a real King of football. I'm so pleased I recognised it for what it was and bathed in the sheer pleasure and delight of it. Gone but never forgotten

    Spurs fan here, taken aback by the similarities (perhaps not surprisingly given their relationship) between the fan reaction to Bielsa's sacking and Pochettino's. I truly loved Poch as much as you can love someone who is a total stranger to you. He not only transformed us on the pitch, but he was an honourable, brilliant man off it, one who truly loved the club and its fans.
    Everyone took the piss out of us for not winning anything but I just didn't care - he made me feel a way about football and Spurs that I hadn't ever really felt before, and it's no coincidence that since he's left the relationship between the fans and club has been totally severed. Here's hoping the post-Bielsa era goes better for you than the post-Poch era is for us.

    I found myself in Wetherby Morrison's a fair few times over lockdown always hopeful that I'd bump into the Great Man, never managed to bump into him to say thanks for everything He'd done.
    Might have to pop in to the Rosario branch now?
    Thanks for Everything Marcelo Bielsa!

    Watching this a year and a half on from Marcelo's sacking, and I realise that we might never have that again. We've been relegated after the worst season for a long time. The players have lost their heart since Bielsa left. Watching his football made me fall in love with football, not just simply watch it. He kept the shit show of a club running, for that we can never say thank you enough. Gracias, Marcelo 🤍💙💛

    As a city fan, I've followed him, because pep loves him so much. He credits Bielsa with teaching him so much, not just his beautiful football, but as a human being.
    He's a great loss for the Premier league & I'm really upset, so sorry for Leeds fans.

    I'm so sad it ended like this. Looks like the board undermined him towards the end. No respect. No goodbye. Disgraceful. Not only one of the best managers Leeds has ever had, but one of the greats of global football.

      Rather have gone down to championship with this fantastic manager, Bielsa, than the irrelevant, pointless, ordinary managers who followed. Bielsa had that special magic.Leeds was rejuvenated and came together in a unique way. it was so fun,good, fun, inspiring, a new lease of like. Much prefer to have gone down to Championship and back with him ,than waht we have. Seems we have lost the magix.

    Had I the Bielsa football style,
    Made of attacking and crazy play,
    Unique, committed, ethical style
    Of wins and losses but always fair-play,
    I would spread Bielsa underground your feet:
    But I, being a fan, have only my dreams;
    I have spread my dreams under your feet;
    Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
    Better survive as a poet than live as a thief,
    Thank you Bielsa for giving us this belief.

    On a human level, a very sad day for MB. However, the board have a lot to answer for. We don't know the full facts but players should have been bought in January. If that was a issue to MB, we should have parted then? The board have taken a massive gamble.

    Like all Leeds United fans I am feeling very sad at what has happened,But I also remember 15th June 2018 when Marcelo Bielsa came to leeds, my club Leeds United was born again,my love for football was born again,my love for life was born again,so I am calling on the SQUARE BALL pod cast,I am calling on the TALKING SHUTT pod cast,I am calling on the LS11 pod cast to get together and on the 15 June each year organise at Bremner Square a Born again Selabration in tribute to Marcelo Bielsa simply because we owe him so much for what he has done for not just the club but for the people of leeds

    If you haven't followed Leeds then it's hard to understand the affinity the fans feel for such a great man. I would mirror Jon in that I've never felt so sad about any manager leaving or even when Leeds were relegated etc. Bielsa's Leeds will forever be a special memory for everyone with anything invested in the club during those years.

    Bielsa wasn't just a coach or a manager. He was an inspiration to us all, and a very humble, down-to-earth and genuine person. He enjoyed simple things, he was a no-nonsense guy, he had character and belief in people I'd never thought would amount to anything. For what he did, he deserved to finish the season. I don't even care if we would have gotten relegated or not. I just wanted him to finish what he started. In any case, I have a feeling he would have kept us in the Prem anyway.

    Bielsa showed an honesty, integrity and humanity rarely seen in the world of professional football. How privileged we have been to have him in our club. He wouldn’t have cheats and divers in his team. He purified Leeds United and I love him for that. He got us playing super attractive football which had the world purring. Yesterday was a sad sad day - but our club goes on. The King is dead, long live the King. Let’s all get behind Jesse Marsch. MOT.

    It is an unidentifiable and unquantifiable feeling and response to Marcelo leaving. It feels like bereavement. It feels like we are back to normal again. That we have lost something special. Something pure. He is a wonderful man. Like he is our father. I hope he can come back and we can give him the love he truly deserves.

    Bielsa showed the games beauty. The power of sport to provide an example of how to live with passion, integrity and honour. The ability to build a community around common values with equal respect for one and other regardless of background.
    But in doing so he’s highlighted how soulless things have become. Pricks on social media looking for bites, billionaires playing status games. Football can be so much more than it is.
    If I’m honest I’m just emotionally numb from what’s happened. Don’t care anymore. They call us the widows of Bielsa - the perfect marriage is over, last thing you want to do is go lay in bed with Jesse Marsh. No doubt he’s a top bloke but can’t be arsed.
    Football will never be the same for me. But the memories will persist. His effect on this city will not fade. Gracias Marcelo. We will miss you

    I'm a Newcastle Fan and as much as I don't like Leeds I can empathise / sympathise for you guys. This is the same as our 'Keegan' moment, and as much as opposing fans and pundits can have their say and take the P they don't understand and never had what we had. We still hark back to the Keegan Years, it's all we've had to hang onto for nearly 30 years, pathetic I know but it was maybe once in a life time thing, until the Saudi's arrived. I'm now 60 years old and may well die without seeing Newcastle win anything, although there maybe a chance now. Great Podcast lads and I wish you all the best.

    Bielsa is Leeds Uniteds second best manager in the history, after Uncle Don. Im not happy at all, and take a " LEEDS UNITED " breake for the rest of this season.
    Stay or going down, i really dont care.
