I think it is Homeric. Notice how Billy towers over the other male ballet dancers. How slow and deliberately he moves... like a predator, until he moves to enter the stage.....just sayin'.
When I see Billy FLY and they do a quick shot of hid Da's face, I weep. The beauty of the music, his leap, his beautifully pointed foot and it's all over in a few seconds. But I cry every time.
This ends a brilliant movie brilliantly and powerfully. As Billy makes his entrance, the situation, the music, his dancing, all propel the emotions to their height. Dad's eyes and mouth radiate his shock of acceptance and pride - his Billy boy now a man. Dad gets it. One of the most perfect, emotionally satisfying endings to any movie I know. Bravo!
Rented Billy Elliot from Netflix months ago and it sat on the shelf. Finally watched last night and have viewed the ending now a dozen times, and still gives me shivers and tears, esp dad's reaction, over-flowing with emotion. A wonderful film and messages - about a family's love and how that love can triumph over hard times even under the unscrupulous and amoral regime of the Thatcher government.
this scene makes me cry like a baby, he made it and his dad is all choked up with pride, love it....just beautiful....the power of music and dance awesome..........
the father's facial expression at the end of the film gives truth to Norma Desmond's line in Sunset Blvd. 'we didn't need dialogue, we had faces'......What a marvelous reaction on that wonderful face. It is a pleasure for me to keep viewing this for Adam Cooper and the dad...
I think this part of the film is just perfect. The music, the lightng, the suspense leading up to Billy's jump, his dad's reaction....and then it really does take your breath when he jumps. And then your left feeling mixed feelings. Happy and excited that Billy made it but also wanting so much more! I want to see him actually dance now that he's older. Brilliant!
I watched this when I was too young to really appreciate all of this movie's elements, but now that I'm older...this scene is just indescribably beautiful. It may have been the most touching climax scene I ever watched. We see now that Billy got past the world's expectations and is doing exactly what he had a passion for. We also see that Billy's father got past the world expectation barrier as well, and supported his son in doing what he wanted to do, instead of what the world wanted.
i just watched this movie and everytime I see this scene( and I've watched it over 10 times now) I burst into tears at the look on his dad's face and the beauty he now possesses after all that training and hard work.
A wonderful movie with so many excellent moments. This, however, is one of the best .......... what an incredible leap! And you can feel his family and friends joy! Tears and goose bumps all over the place.
Love this movie and the ending!! I remember crying the first time I saw it. Let me just express how perfect the actor is at being older Michael. It' just... perfect haha
I agree with all of you. It's an amazing scene, simply exquisite! I also cry evertime this scene appears. For me it's a combination of the Dad's face and the music. Just listen to the beautiful music and notice how it builds up suspence throughout the scene. Billy's jump and the end fits perfect with the "climax" in the song!
My brother takes ballet classes with me and our dad wasn't very supportive of either of us doing it and my brother finds so much inspiration from this movie and I love e it to!
it's such a touching story, and when the older billy jumps out for the first time, the viwer can see that his dad accepts him being a ballet dancer and is proud of him xD
For me, Billy's dad is half of what makes the emotional impact of this scene. I mean, it's obviously about Billy and the length of his journey, but his family creates a great contrast. You know his dad stayed back in "Everington" and broke his back so that Billy could make it. Now he is lost in this "big city" not knowing what to expect. And the moment Billy jumps on stage this man who "never went past Durham" sees how all of his faith and sacrifice delivered. It's just so fucking beautiful.
a grown man that every time sees this beautiful film cant help but cry. the film rouses all my emotions amazing storyline stunning acting fantastic music score top 3 of my alltime favourite films. the final scene beautifuly filmed and crafted. but i wanted so much another scene after. where, after the ballet he meets with his dad brother and michael for a drink. got to see the musical but anticipate wont be the same as the film but i am sure i will not be disappointed the story is too good
This part of the movie still actually makes me want to cry, it doesn't even matter if I haven't watched the rest of the movie before it. Brilliant climax to a brilliant film
everytime i see this i just have to cry. its like so emotional for me - i feel like i am this little kid - always dancing and the growing up beeing in musical school and stuff - as my own story - love billy elliot
@LaSerpentaCanta ... Depends what you mean. Adam Cooper (the actor/dancer) is playing adult Billy Elliot, but the character he's playing in the ballet is "Odette". Except it's an adaption of the original Swan Lake. Adam Cooper actually danced this part in the male troupe adaption in 1996 (amazon it :) it's simply stunning to watch his movements as the Swan)
billy's dad has always reminded me of mine. A bit aggressive and protective of himself and his masculinity, but from day 1 has broken his back to provide for me and my brother and continues to sacrifice himself for us even now that I've started college. I'll always be in debt to him... and watching this ending always hits me..
Thanks starsrocks. On watching the whole film, one understands the emotion of the ending: the boorish pig of a father upon whom, finally, the penny has dropped, and then the music build up at the close timed simultaneously with that amazing leap. An enduring movie masterpiece. Keep well.
@M90042 the song at the end is Ride a White Swan by T. Rex. It is on the Billy Elliot movie soundtrack. They used about 5 of his songs. T Rex is also know as Marc Bolan.
i couldn't help but think of this movie and particularly this great ending while watching Black Swan. and I can tell you this 30 second finale performance was 100x times more fulfilling than Black Swan's ending.
I start sobbing with the dad. Gets me everytime no matter how many times I've watched this scene.
This scene cannot be more powerful. The dream coming true. I love it!
I think it is Homeric. Notice how Billy towers over the other male ballet dancers. How slow and deliberately he moves... like a predator, until he moves to enter the stage.....just sayin'.
I always cry when I see his father
I do too! :)
Me too.
Father's pride. Better than gold!!!
Billy Elliot's father realised his true talent and passion was ballet
I get goosebumps every time I see his grand entrance in the ballet...
I just love this movie. The actor who plays Billy's father is great. He generates so much emotion with just a few expressions. Fantastic
His dad's face, in the last shot gets me every time..so touching.
great movie
When I see Billy FLY and they do a quick shot of hid Da's face, I weep. The beauty of the music, his leap, his beautifully pointed foot and it's all over in a few seconds. But I cry every time.
Just checking to see if I still cry every time...yep, I still do.
me tooo
+Claresa Everlasting Me too!!!
NEVER gets old !!!!!!
Yea, it's impossible not to cry with this.
My heart thumbs out my chest.
Bravo!
Adam Cooper is absolutely amazing! He encapsulates masculinity with his dancing and movements.
Adam Cooper, the iconic end scene. He does it brilliantly, well he would.
I always cry whenever the father cries. To me, this movie is all about father's love towards his children.
More like chasing your dreams no matter what everyone else thinks, and teaching to be more open minded.
Fenrize both
I have the same feelings about it too
Any father in the world looking at this, can feel exactly what the father is feeling at that very moment. Sublime love for your child....
Billy Elliot's movie is not about his father
Any father in the world can relate to what the father is feeling...sublime love and pride for his child and his achievements...

this scene makes me cry like a baby, he made it and his dad is all choked up with pride, love it....just beautiful....the power of music and dance awesome..........
A very emotional ending, just watching these last few mins again made my eyes water. A fantastic film.
the father's facial expression at the end of the film gives truth to Norma Desmond's line in Sunset Blvd. 'we didn't need dialogue, we had faces'......What a marvelous reaction on that wonderful face. It is a pleasure for me to keep viewing this for Adam Cooper and the dad...

He has such a gorgeous body.
What an incredible dancer.
Love this movie!
I CRY EVERY SINGLE TIME OH MY GOD THIS IS TOO BEAUTIFUL

fantastic i watch this all the time and every time i get goose bumps .. love this and the movie
THE PROUD IS IN HIS TEARS,TOUCHING
I could watch this scene over & over! Love this film!
My favourite bit of this scene is when Billy leaps onto the stage and his dad just gasps! Always brings a tear to my eye!
It's so scary how he jumps that high, it's amazing! 😭😭
i think this is an absolute wonderful ending, the quick flash to his fathers face as Billy leaps, he gasps and you can feel his emotions. fantastic.
i just watched this movie and everytime I see this scene( and I've watched it over 10 times now) I burst into tears at the look on his dad's face and the beauty he now possesses after all that training and hard work.
I love the emotion that comes from his father, even his brother accepts his gift and the over whelming pride shines through. Excellent scene
This scene makes me cry. Especially the father's reaction....

This movie, from the music to the script to the acting is a masterpiece
This is SO awesome! I totally love this scene!
I adore the whole movie but this is definitely one of the best scenes in this movie.
I love it so much...I can watch so many times and never get tired. Remember my childhood ballet and what I could have done??
My brother takes ballet classes with me and our dad wasn't very supportive of either of us doing it and my brother finds so much inspiration from this movie and I love e it to!
i seriously cried when the dad teared up even before he came on stage. Love that movie . . .
The part that gets me is when Billy's dad sees him and gasps. That moment just says so much.
Yeah I think it's a gasp of amazement and pride that the father has such a beautiful ending I just wished the dance had gone on more
yeah... i always cry in this scene too... something inside of me is moved.
So emotional ... lump in my throat tears in my eyes.. brillant excellent film xx
i had the pleasure of seeing both the movie and the ballet swan lake with male dancer only in the ballet core i am loving it
Piel de gallina con ésta escena!
It's amazing how this little 1.20 second clip can make you cry. And imagine it after watching the whole film.
For me, the last 6 seconds of this film are the most dramatic in motion picture history. This is one of the best flicks ever made.
It's make me cry...so beatiful!
it's such a touching story, and when the older billy jumps out for the first time, the viwer can see that his dad accepts him being a ballet dancer and is proud of him xD
siempre lloro con esta escena, la vi cientos de veces y es que simplemente es perfecta

the dancer who plays billy grown up is called adam cooper, he's the man this role in adam bourne's swan lake was created for :)
This part of the movie still actually makes me want to cry, it doesn't even matter if I haven't watched the rest of the movie before it. Brilliant climax to a brilliant film
