      And the grey market import in Europe get the GRJ7* since 2017 also (since euro6 and they were no more able to hack the 1HZ to pass emission).
      Note that VDJ200 were sold in Europe up to 2016 and GRJ150 are still available, so emission is not the real reason the 70 series is not sold in Europe (I think pedestrian crash test and business strategy).

    I’m in Japan 🇯🇵 and is very cool to see that you reviewed the Japanese model.
    Now regarding the price when it first came out the 30th anniversary was the starting price ¥3,600,000 for the lowest grade (pretty much no options or additional features) nowadays you can get the same model for ¥4,200,000-¥6,000,000 depending on mileage, conditions and mods. I actually own the exact model and color that you are reviewing on this video and is super cool also I have to mention that mileage for liter of gas is very messed up. If you run this truck with the og tires as the one in the video it’d give you approximately 6-7.2 km/L. I myself have the KO2 LT 235/85R16 (skinny/military style) on them and it gives me about 578km/100Liters =5.78 km/L so it doesn’t change much is still ok. Great video mate cheers 🍻
    Oh and btw with all due respect I think you could have done better on the 0-100 km/h 12.-- is kind of slow may be you were holding back because of the rain but in mine (remember exact same model) I’ve done 0-100 in about 8 seconds. Although mine has only a bit over 30,000km ran so I don’t know what’s the mileage on this particular one that you’re driving and if the services has been done right on point ;)

    Let's be honest - one of the main differences is about how it sounds. The V8 Diesel with a 3" exhaust (even the DPF models) sounds very sweet. But then there's also the greater longevity of diesel engines, and even availability of Diesel vs. Petrol in the outback. The petrol one is a nice truck, but the V8 Diesel... that's something truely special.

      @barbraabsalom4531 Před 2 lety +2

      The complexity of the V8 turbo diesels eats into the old diesel vs petrol longevity argument & they will cost a shitload more in maintenance & servicing to get to the same Kim’s as this v6 or Toyota V8 petrol equivalents , my mate has a 200 V8 twin turbo diesel & the factory 160000klm service is ridiculous & recommends from memory , the replacement of the injectors at $1000 each plus other expensive stuff , you will need deep pockets to keep them for long term & hundreds of thousands of klm.

    • @jamesh7395
      @jamesh7395 Před 2 lety +1

      @@barbraabsalom4531 I don't know enough about the long term servicing costs to comment, but there are plenty of parts and mechanics around Australia who know how to service these things. And from all accounts I think they still enjoy a very long life compared to many vehicles. But this is not a competition for ultimate value, longevity and efficiency - if that were the case I'd buy something like a Isuzu DMax or maybe a Mitsubishi Triton. My point was that the V8 Diesel in the LC70 sounds and feels great to drive, and it puts a smile on your face. It's more of an emotive choice than a purely rational one, like many things in life.

    My 2005 Toyota 79 series has a straight 6 cylinder turbo diesel (1HD-FTE) in Australia, in my opinion its the best motor Toyota has ever made. It's such a beast of a truck, I wouldn't swap it for any other vehicle.

    • @barbraabsalom4531
      @barbraabsalom4531 Před 2 lety +1

      It’s not just your opinion , even Toyota dealers will tell potential upgrade customers from the 1hd-fte in either a 100 series or 79 that if there is nothing wrong with it , dont “upgrade “ , so will many other reputable workshops such as Berrima diesel etc , they all know it was the best donk & will be a better tow horse , unless the 70 series V8 single turbo has the restrictive exhaust crossover pipe upgraded & a tune , then it’s still more complicated & far more expensive to maintain in the long run .

    Awesome. I've been waiting for this one. Would love to drive and own the v6 petrol, it's cheaper and it's probably faster from factory. I think whether or not the V6 is better than the V8 depends on your usage. Everyone knows that diesel and their dpf systems go out when used in town. But if you need a daily driver and a weekend bush driver or warrior then the V6 petrol is a good engine plus the interior is much quieter so you've got that. To make it even better, the v6 will be cheaper in maintenance compared to the V8 (naturally aspirated vs turbo v8 diesel).

      yes you might see a bit more power initially however no matter how you slice the pie you chew more fuel in a petrol engine
      I was comparing diesel for a a reason because i have been around toyotas for over 35 years and typically 6cyl turbo diesel has the output power as a n/a v8 though the turbo option kills the 6..
      buck in the 80's most common types of cruisers straight 6, straight 6 turbo, v8 and v8 turbo..

I've grown up around Landcruisers and Landrovers, owning several series and Defender Landies driving them all over Southern Africa in rough Bush conditions. Also no stranger to the diesel pickup 70 series Cruisers and Nissan Atrols. I would put the Patrol in the same class as the Landcruiser. Here in Africa the Patro is not as well supported so the Cruiser edges it out on top as a current version. The 4.2d is my preferred version with the v6 and the v8 on a par after that. Amazing vehicles for longevity and rough environments. We haven't had "real" Landcruiser's here in Canada for decades, but I would love to have a 79 Series with the V8 diesel. I owned a 2012 Tacoma with the 4.0 V6 and I quite liked the engine in that truck compared to my 2017 Tacoma with the 3.5 V6. So for me, V8 diesel because of the torque and then the V6 as the close second.

    My personal opinion is the most reliable engine for 79 is 4.2L straight 6 engine that’s because I have number of experiences with 1Hz with extreme off road trails. I think when it comes to off road torque matters so petrol engines don’t have a considerable torque when compared to Diesel engines.

    Stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Driving (JDM) 2015 GRJ-79 4.0L V6 Petrol 5-speed manual "Workmate" grade. I love driving "Victoria" (aka trophy wife #2). Second owner. Purchased August 2021 from Mainland Japan Toyota dealer (was a company vehicle) for 4,000,000 Yen with only 15,000 km on odometer (price included shipping to Okinawa and registration). Most LCs on island are 20-30 year old 76s with diesel engines. Only (4) other examples of 79 body on island. Choose this version for several reasons. Mainly because wife and I had a LJ78G (early 90's Prado Light) we built and used for desert Overlanding for 17 years. The 79 has the same old school basic analog/mechanical controls. No push-button IFS 4WD, with glass cockpit digital displays and alarms telling you that your espresso is getting cold (I hate modern SUV/4WDs). Did though go double cabin style (vice wagon). Separate bed from cabin for wet gear (mountain bikes, kayaks). Also, having 1GR-FE engine, wider availability of regular engine maintenance items at local parts stores as the 4.0L V6 is used in modern Hilux and Surfs here. Diesels limited to LCs and construction vehicles on Oki, so diesel owners need to rely on specialty off-road or heavy truck shops for everyday parts. Main annoyances are large turning radius and the double cabin is noticeably longer than a 76 (mine is 460 mm longer with aftermarket bumper). So getting through narrow residential streets (usually bordered by high block walls) and finding space to park can be a challenge. The real complaint living here with a gasser 79, is axle gear ratios. I live and work in southern half of the island with majority of population. Roads are hilly and tarmac composition is very slippery when wet (why our highest speed limit is 50 kph). Driving speeds are ridiculously slow during morning and evening commute. Axles need two or three steps lower gearing (numerically higher ratios). Lacking the low-end torque of a diesel, there are times I am on the clutch way too much trying to keep from lugging/stalling engine in 1st gear (>700 rpm). Would also help going slower on the rough trails to beaches when no reason to engage 4L. With an hour long commute of 10.8 km, fuel economy is not an issue. Gear ratio swap is on the build list. Oh, and yes, axle track widths are typical Toyota different front v. rear. Wheel spacers on rear axle are a popular first upgrade here.

      There was no point trying to get a Patrol or Landcruiser to do that job. In my case it's not about money.
