  • In this interview, Maria Edwards shares how her lived-experience putting bipolar 2 disorder into remission inspired her to become a researcher in the field of metabolic therapies. Maria completed a Master’s in Clinical Nutrition and her thesis was a feasibility study that examined ketogenic therapy for patients recovering from brain injuries. She also worked on the very first study on ketogenic therapy for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that is currently in the peer-review process.
Despite hurdles like small sample sizes and missing data, her pilot studies lay the groundwork for future research into ketogenic therapy for brain injury and PTSD.
    What You'll Learn:
▪️Maria Edward’s personal journey: Maria shares how her personal experience treating bipolar 2 disorder with a medical keto diet made her want to devote her career to helping others through researching metabolic therapies.
▪️Feasibility Trials: Understand the significance of feasibility studies and how Maria's pilot trials laid the groundwork for further investigation in this field.

I had a bilateral Ischemic stroke of the brain stem while in dietary ketosis 3 May 24. I fasted for the next 3 days. Iwent back to Carnivore diet on fourth day. My recovery was rapid. I spent a week in hospital. By one week in Rehab, still on Carnivore, I was walking several miles per day. I leftt Rehab on tenth day. I continued with Physical therapy until the present day. I am bicycle riding and walking daily.

This makes me soo happy to hear this - bcs I am danish myself, and my story is soo close to hers it is scary! I have not yet been diagnosed with biloar ... (I been on a waiting list for almost 1 year now to see a psyciatrist here in Denmark about bipolar) But I been researching intensely myself, as I am so do not want to just have medicin - as I had a severe depression years back, and from that the medicin just drained my life force, and made me gain so much weight, that I still struggle with. This coming week I am starting up on KETO, and I am so excited about it

About a century ago, a Doctor noticed an epyleptic with a ketoacidosis disorder ....the Patient had less epyleptic fits when they were ketotic .The Doctor's curiosity about this, led to the discovery of how ketones vitalise 160 trillion cells and improve myriad health conditions .(notwithstanding the dangerousness of ketoacidosis disorder).

Thank you for providing Facebook information I will look you up. Women over 65 years old are having problems with the SSRI's because they cause QT prolongation (heart rhythm problems (Men are protected by testosterone so they are not as vulnerable). Most doctors are not familiar with Keto diet so self-help with input from others is going to have to be the way to go. I started Keto again after being off for a while hoping it will help with anxiety and depression. I took Lexapro for over 20 years and it worked well until I was hospitalized with QT prolongation. Doctors are prescribing epilepsy medications and antipsychotics and the side effects are brutal. Thank you very much for this presentation.

I was interested when she started to talk about the challenges of tapering her antipsychotic. That is an important part of the story because a rapid taper could send the patients into an episode thanks for the interview

I turned to carnivore after sustaining a TBI and subsequent PTSD. Thankful for the research links. Wishing Maria well in her research efforts-looking forward to updates.

Before curing the OCD could you send them over to sort Legos to minute detail first? I shouldn't jest about something so life-altering. I chose to "cheat" a few days ago on a Panera sandwich, that left me unfulfilled, and turned on the Manic OcD state, newborn rooting behavior searching out nutrients. So, I channeled that desire for a gas station fun for a soda the bread activated by sorting, subsorting, and micro-sorting the kids' mildly massive lego collection. As we use them for homeschool too, it is quite educational. Rewarding when a piece for some technic engineering project can be found in seconds during some project.
