They sound different in every album, they have very different songs so you have to be prepared to react to ballads and other kind of songs haha. I recommend you "Save me".
Save me is a great one, the drums and guitar go crazy in that one, Syn Gates never disappoints, and M Shadows vocals are great as usual.

Buried alive is probably a perfect track for you, it’s got a great mix of the beautiful instruments ( specifically guitar ) but also has the heaviness that you liked from Exist.

M.I.A. is my personal favorite song of all time, and it's beautiful emotional, high energy, lyrically provocative, and extremely catchy. The solos will really break you in.
Beast and the Harlot is my favorite single. I recommend the album version so you get the full song. It's iconic. One of the two songs that brought them huge mainstream recognition as a hard rock and heavy metal band after their metalcore era.
Dear God is imo one of the best ballads ever written. It will definitely surprise you, and I hope no one spoils it. It might seem like a novelty, but the vocals and overall sound are absolutely breathtaking. Album version also recommended for the guitar solo section.
Avenged Sevenfold have been my favorite band since 2006 and I've done research on pretty much everything there is to know, so if there's anything in particular you'd like to know about the band, I've got you.

As much as I love Save Me, So Far Away, God Hates Us, and Buried Alive, you'll have to put those songs off and hear earlier songs. It's very important that you do. The entire Nightmare album is a tribute to the band's original drummer, and for it to hit right, you'll need to know what his playing and composition sounded like. Those songs had another guy doing his parts for him. You'd be working backwards in interpreting the emotion if you don't know what The Rev's musicianship was like.

Avenged is a great live band. Check out live in lbc 2007 beast and the harlot is a good one.
I would go as far as to recommend the whole show if possible, that is to this day one of my top three live shows to watch. The quality is great, the music is perfect, the energy is high and it has Jimmy in it which makes me happy and sad at the same time.
You oughta listen to the demo version, the reverb alone from Synyster and Zacky V will give you chills! Love your reactions so much! Can you do brompton cocktail?

I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the two songs you’ve listened to from Avenged. I agree with everyone else suggesting all these songs, I can’t really pick anything that’s not been said, everyone has pretty much been spot on with their suggestions. Buried Alive, Save me, anything from the “ Live in the LBC “ show, M.I.A. A song similar to Acid rain you may enjoy from their latest album world be Roman Sky. One of my favorite songs from them is from the Waking the Fallen album, the song is called “ I won’t see you tonight part 1 “. It’s not heavy but it has a really deep lyrical story and the end is beautiful. Second Heartbeat also from the same album is a faster, heavier song with a insane guitar solo.
Also my favorite by them is Save Me. Please check it out.

Love this band so much!! I would definitely suggest the music video for So Far Away, which is a tribute to their drummer who passed away in 2009. That song almost brings me to tears every time I hear it. They were all best friends all throughout school and then formed the band. They were basically brothers, and you can absolutely feel the emotion in So Far Away. Another great song is Sieze the Day, the music video can tug at the heartstrings as well. If you want an epic, super heavy performance, definitely check out God Hates Us live at rock am ring 2011. Easily the best vocal performance of a very heavy song I have ever heard.
Before that, he should get familiar with the band and especially with the rev, so when he sees SO FAR AWAY it hits him harder. If he sees it right now it wouldn't be the same
For the sake of context with Nightmare songs, it's definitely important to do So Far Away, but I feel he should get to know the band as a whole and value the dynamic of what The Rev brought to the table before he becomes an "RIP Rev" person. Having an emotional attachment to him without having actually heard anything he's played won't be good for giving him an objective view on the classic songs Jimmy played on. He won't be focusing on the whole band. He'll be focusing on the drumming reflexively. He's gotta get earlier songs in before he can really understand So Far Away or God Hates Us.

It can also really open someone's eyes. There's a common stereotype that new rock bands aren't skilled and make generic music that sounds identical, but Avenged Sevenfold can break that mindset.
If you want to know how is their classic sound you shuld check their hits, this and the last song you've heard does not represent their true sound, this is more their experimental sides, don't get me wrong, both great songs.
But if you want to know their true colors, check out Beast and the Harlot, Bat Country, Afterlife, Unholy Confessions.
But at the same time is good to see someone reacting to different songs by them.
I definitely agree with this. With most reactors, I really want to recommend deep cuts, but when it comes to Avenged Sevenfold reactions, the immediate choices are usually So Far Away, Save Me, Exist, Fiction, Hail to the King, Nightmare. Those songs always come up really quickly. They're later career stuff. Although Nightmare is my favorite album, I really think other stuff from before should be done besides A Little Piece of Heaven, which should be saved at least until after 5 reactions. A7X as a band isn't either single heavy or deep cut heavy. It's a great approach mixing singles and underrated fan favorites, but really early on being exposed to City of Evil singles for sure.

I see a lot of people are pushing you in the direction of the more "poppy" songs, and its kinda unfortunate, I love them all, especially this one, but I highly recommond a more progressive rock song like Save Me or The Wicked End and even A Little Piece Of Heaven, those are in my opinion much better songs and I get goosebumos from so many parts of the songs, their more commercial orientated songs don't show them off fully and showcase their true talents.
