I always like to see a musician's reaction to Mr Bungle if they've never heard them before. It's never "I hate it" because no matter your taste in music, there's something to appreciate in there, often in every song (particularly their first album). Legend has it that prior to getting signed (A "what were we thinking?" moment for Warner Bros, I'm sure) they were primarily a live band that would play gigs that asked them to play specific genres, so they not only learned but learned to appreciate many different types of music. Most if not all of the songs on this album were written and released on demo tapes years prior to this album.
WB signed them after the overnight popularity of Faith No More (another band with vocalist Mike Patton) and thought they would get some more of that "Alternative Music these kids seem to love these days" ... Well... not exactly... The band knew WB was likely kicking themselves, and changed one line in 'Carousel' to "Will Warner Brothers put our record on a shelf?" ... WB seemed to put up with their antics, not only throwing money at the production and allowing experimental jazz star John Zorn to produce, but they didn't even mind Mr Bungle flipping the WB logo to use as an MB logo.

I was first introduced to this album in 1992 at the tender age of 13, going on 14. I had already become a die-hard, relentless fan of Faith No More's "Angel Dust" album, and my dear musician friend, Paul, recommended this album to me, and I bought it less than a week later. I've listened to this album so many times, I can't even count.

Since nearly every-one-of their songs is unique, it could be argued that every Mr. Bungle-song is worth listening-to.
And I think the song you were trying to think of might be ‘Ma Meeshka Mow Skwoz’? That’s from their Disco Volante-album. And yeah, Carousel is another fan-fav.

Applause! :)))) Absolutely fantastic reaction.:) That's the way to react to Mr. Bungle! :)) ... ... Oh, man ... Applause! :))
This definitely made my day. :)) I feel so overwhelmed with joy thanks to your reaction, Jonathon. :) You were on point on every single thing and a detail you`ve noticed. :) John Zorn, famous jazz composer, performer, producer and brilliant saxophonist, leader of the legendary new wave/ progressive jazz-rock-noise band of the 80`s called Naked City was the guy who actually produced this album. ;) :) The music of these two bands are somehow similar since the technique of fast genre switching is, in fact, say, the patent of Zorn and his Naked City, right, but Mr. Bungle took this to perfection and brought it to the whole new level of experience and meaning, so here it is! :))) Carousel, huh? :) ....GO! :)))) You see, if I may put it that way, this album has two significant mega hits, that summarize story of the "bungle": first one is most likely - Carousel, and the second - My Ass is on Fire, hahah... :)) These are two tripods on the football doors of this band's first album, metaphorically speaking. :) That`s the right choice! :) But, similarly, I would also add another song from those two, My ...is on Fire. :))) It is the ultimate demonstration of their groovalistic wickedness that later inspired Slipknot, Incubus, Korn, S.O.A.D. to give their freaking best....! :) Now, I know it sounds a bit selfish of me, but similar to your reaction for the Carry Stress in the Jaw which, in fact, included two songs (+The Spy, right?) :)... I think that you should react to official album`s version of My Ass is on Fire from 1991. and to include a phenomenal version of this song live in 1999. from the Bizarre Festival in Germany in the same video. :))) As you can see, these boys like to surprise themselves too; they used `the switch up` technique on their own song (s) to change parts of it like on some old car to make it even more modern and progressive at the time through some new things, parts of electronic music, the drum`n`bass jungle and the like, so that made that song even more amazing. So, this is my suggestion, write it down, think about it when the time comes, and one big episode of the musical life of this band will hit you with such groovalistic intensity that you will immediately understand their true significance. :) You can ask for the links, I will be happy to share, or you can simply dig it yourself, not hard to find. :) That`s all I have to say. Thank you so much, Jonathon, for appreciating this band, their members, their frontman and their music in general, you are one of the rarest of its kind and you are at the very source of contemporary metal progressive music. :) Thanks a lot! We are looking forward to a new reaction to them .. :) Bye. :)

Incubus made a career out of songs inspired by early bungle and particulary Evidence from Fnm's king for a day. I want to mention glassjaw and finch as well.
