    Thank you for the video. What caught my attention with your video was the batteries you use. I am using the same name. Your question about the science and why they hold their charge at 95 percent is a good one. I bought my latest battery a week ago and have noticed after turning the inverter off my 4 batteries refresh themselves quickly amazing I would like to know the science too.     You should not charge on a single cell. use positive on cell number 1 and negative on cell number 4, your batterys will charge better and prolong life. You will also get a more stable output.

      YOU ARE CORRECT. I HAVE 4 HARBER FREIGHT AGM 12 VOLT 35 AM BATTERIES HOOKED UP IN PARALLEL AND CHARGE THEM YOUR WAY. THEY HAVE LASTED 5 YEARS AND ARE STILL GOING STRONG.

    Your batteries connections are ok, between battery 1,2, 3 and 4. The thing is any load or charging device should be connected by the negative of battery 1 and the positive of battery 4 (or vice versa while connected to each other’s like in your video). This way all batteries will be in balance (amp wise...) in charging and/or load usage, otherwise you’ll be putting too much strain on battery 1 (or to whatever battery you’re connecting the positive and negative on) due to their each and own resistance.

    Don't connect your leads to first battery with parallel battery bank. Connect positive lead to first battery then connect negative lead to forth battery or vise versa. Then connect to charge controller. Your draw will be 13.35 amps to 11.6 amps to 11.6 amps to 13.35 amps that's 15%. The way you have it by connecting your charge controller at one end of your battery bank your draw will be 17.95 amps to 13.10 amps to 10.20 amps to 8.9 amps. There's also another way you can draw 12.5 amps straight across four batteries, but your battery bank needs to be wired differently in parallel. Hope this helps!!

    One helpful tip bit is the shorter your cables the better. Since your shooting for 12v your guage is probably ok.

    To charge these equally, are you supposed to attach the positive cable to one of the batteries on one end of the row and the negative cable to the battery on the other end of the row? Thanks

      Yes, correct. It's important all batteries have the same equal amount of charge before wiring them in series with each other.

    Consider how the hot wire (+ or anode) literally touches the cathode ( or negative terminal) of the adjacent battery. For a CZcams demonstration this is fine of course, but if these batteries are exposed to vibration or abrasion the insulation could eventually wear through presenting a catastrophic failure risk for all 4 batteries. You might consider adding in-line fuses.

      Have you ever seen battery cables that have worn through the insulation from sitting on top of something? Not passing through a firewall or loosely secured where there would be movement and chafing. Just saying to get those cables which are prolly 6ga even vibrating your vehicle would have to be on a rough road. And if they were vibrating, they’re moving freely rather than rubbing against the terminals so even if those terminals were razors it wouldn’t be likely the insulation would be cut under the weight of the cable vibrating.

      @@dirtyaznstyle4156 It's not clear to me the point you're trying to make. Is it simply "that won't happen"? As I stated "For a demonstration this is fine..." As for the "rough road" comment, my statement was "if these batteries are exposed to vibration or abrasion..." The pre-existing conditions are irrelevant: vibration happens in some situations. I said nothing of vehicles or roads. And your final point of "terminals were razors" I'll just say this: abrasion built the Grand Canyons. It should not be underestimated. See "oscillating tool" for a demonstration of what vibration and abrasion can do. For reference, I work as a repair technician for an ag. electronics company and regularly repair damaged harnesses. The manufacturing industry knows all too well about these risks, which is why most harnesses in vehicles are contained within convoluted tubing. I hope this helps you understand the risks, but all this discussion is really irrelevant: ANY situation which uses large [capacity] batteries and presents a risk of a short circuit, a breaker or fuse should be used, period.     I knew this before watching this, but just watching this made me feel right lol. Im 26 and preparing for a world corrupted event. Everyone needs to know 100% what they do. I take notes i write and type them. Copies of all notes in hand. Solar and all. I am digging in to making my own power. I am in a populization of oilfield workers. Their corps are warning personally to their workers that it can shut down in the matter of a moment. Its been like that. Those people will be the ones who rebel on corrupt government control and will drill wells with what they are in knowledge of the old time ways of creating energy that will last for some time.

    A better way to confirm the entire load is to connect the positive at one end of the bank and the negative at the other on the charger/tester.

    get two flat thin copper bars that will go across the top of all the negatives and positive terminals. drill holes in the bars where the terminals are then strap all four positive and other for the four negative. You won't need all the wires and it makes a better connection. when you hook up the charger hook it up to the center batteries you will be able to charge all batteries full. Use the center terminals to draw from too. better use of batteries

    Will it hurt to run those batteries in series for a big house tv and ice box house size or do I need to get a mini ice box off six batteries, even though i got two 30 amp mppt charge controllers on the bank

    Right cause that how I got my shed wired up from battery 1 to 4 from two 30 amp charge controller some say the battery don't work solar but I'm been with these batteries from last summer throw winter now here to another winter and I'm still reading what I started with so my renogy system never much get touched cause the Marine battery system so I agree 💯

    also I replaced my starter battery recently.vw t4 2.5tdi .got yuasa 100ah.was thinking could parallel my old starter battery up front.would it make new battery last longer?my stereo been upgraded.got hold of 2 Kenwood power amps and Kenwood 7x10 and made a subwoofer 10inch fosgate diy cabinet.when stereo on and using 2 amps the voltage drops 0.3 volts but usually have engine on with stereo.and both amps have control lead power so amps click off when stereo off.

      This is true, they equalise somewhere between the highest and the lowest individual voltages, into an average voltage.
      The time this happens depends upon their individual capacities and voltage differences.

When this charging level is achieved the battery is considered as fully charged. If there is no other problem in the battery, equalization cures practically the sulfation of the cells by dissolving the sulphate crystals into the electrolyte, bringing it to its original density. When this happens the battery is fully charged. That’s all about it.

    hi.i have 2 x 110ah leisure batteries in my camper .have got dc to dc charger connected and have Waeco fridge on all time.works good.my batteries in adjoining cupboards.in camper van.when bought van another leisure battery is next to crank battery,it had split charger connected to it.ive kept it there as its handy to connect my spotlights that run off main beam switch .I used to have another 110ah leisure in back but would it be better to have 3 batteries close together in parallel.they not same age but same ah different makes .so I should charge separately sometimes you think?I have a ctek charger .steve

      This is tricky - TECHNICALLY they will auto-balance. However if there is a great difference between the charge levels then they would VIOLENTLY auto-balance. This could lead to off-gassing which could damage or destroy the batteries. This is exactly what the balancer prevents. The best solution is to fully charge them all and then wire them in parallel, as shown in the video, with fuses in between (30A perhaps, depending upon application.) If the fuse blows as the batteries are connected, something is not right and you need to re-check your setup.

    so... if i run a 12 inverter on the four battery system you hooked up , i believe what your saying is i am still just using 12 volts but the system would last longer.. i am thinking in terms of off grid living . also if i hooked this up to my trucks system with a longer cable from my motor to my truck bed i could charge all 4 batteries at once from my vehicle or am i just not getting this lol

    Okay here's the problem I'm having, I have virtually the same deep cycle batteries and I have four of them like yourself, I try to put a trickle charger on them to keep them all charged up while they're just sitting not in use, this is a backup system if the power goes out for the freezer, however when I put my trickle charger on there the only way I get an indicator light saying that it is actually connected correctly and charging his when I put the negative to the positive and the positive to the negative which doesn't seem to make sense to me

      Ahh! No! The current rating ("amps") of the battery is irrelevant. If the batteries have the same VOLTAGE rating they can be tied in parallel, as long as they're the same chemistry. Meaning 12V SLAs can be tied together, but don't tie together an SLA with a Li-Ion pack. Of course this all assumes you understand the best battery is going to be doing most of the work. I would not recommend tying different makes of battery in parallel.

      Cold cranking amps (CCA) is in part a factor based upon Internal Series Resistance (ISR). The battery with the higher CCA rating will do the most heavy lifting, and wear out more quickly than the lower CCA batteries. This isn't necessarily dangerous, and can be done, just expect the best battery to last the shortest amount of time.

      Wiring multiple batteries in parallel increases available charge, measured in Amp-Hours. This setup can be used to increase current capacity (measured in Amps) but it must be understood that the batteries are not perfectly identical inside and the best battery (lowest internal resistance) is going to be doing the brunt of the work. Strictly speaking, this will increase available current.

      @@MrPolomitch The negative terminals must be tied together. If the batteries are in different locations on the vehicle, they can all be tied together using the metal chassis of the vehicle.

      Good question. When it comes to electrical and even batteries, it is important to use the same electrical, batteries with the same capacities, etc. Never, ever compromise electricity. When you compromise electricity, you're only looking for trouble one way or another. This is the safest way my friend!

      Yes, within reason, as long as they all have the same voltage rating. For example, a 5V 20Ah cannot go with a 12V 20Ah. Similarly, a 12V 1.5Ah shouldn't be paired with a 12V 500Ah. However a 12V 500Ah and a 12V 400Ah will balance fine.
      For more info research battery Internal Series Resistance (ISR). This all assumes you're talking about Lead-Acid batteries as in this video.

    I do have an e scooter trike which runs on 3 (6-DZM-12) each of them a single 12 Volt Battery Pack so 3 in a row making it 36 V. They are lead acid batteries. I took my 3 old ones out and set up the new ones exactly and wired them exactly as the old ones were in there. I put the 3 prong charger into the back of the scooter and then into the socket. The indicator light is flashing green red which I read indicates that it must be hooked up wrong with the polarity. I did not do anything different then it was before. It is exactly the same way although I think one connection is somehow missing from one to the other battery. I bought a multimeter and checked the batteries all of them are 12.7 V reading so all good. Then I checked the the charger with the multimeter. Also good. I am somehow thinking really something is wrong with the wiring. Is anybody maybe knowledgeable to help me when I am sending pictures ? I have never done this here before and I really enjoy my bikes but right now the are permanently parked 😞. I would appreciate every help I could get.

      I have not received an answer. I would imagine over a much longer period of time they would lose their charge at a much slower pace. It just blew my mind there was no drop over 1-month. 12-months, I'm sure there would be a drop.

      Depends what size inverter you have. If you have a 2000 watt AC Inverter you can run a small air conditioner or a small space heater for a short amount of time. I plan to do a video soon with an inverter and solar panel. Life is crazy busy.

      I don't think you can. You can get 24 volts at the end from 12 volt batteries. This is my best answer :o)

    If you don’t have all 4 batteries of the same amp hours, as I understand it, you will only be able to pull as many amp hours as the smallest battery. So 3 100 ah batteries and one 80ah would only pull 80 ah x 4 for 320 ah. This means 160 ah from a lead acid battery without possible irreparable harm to the batteries.

      Since you dont have red cables, use some RED electrical tape on each end of the black positive cables. Just as a reminder that these are indeed positive cable.

      @@forgetyourlife I've always connected the negatives first and will continue to connect the negatives first. I've never had any problems with connecting the negatives first. This is how I was taught, but I don't have a scientific answer as to why.

    I am planning on building myself a Solar Generator, using 4 12 Volt, Deep Cycle Marine Batteries, and a 6000 Watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter. My intention is to use the Solar Generator to fully power my 22 foot Class A Motorhome while Boondocking in areas with no shore power access is available, and gas powered Generators are not allowed due to noise ordinances.

    I'm trying to keep my 500w ebike charged as I'm riding. I have a 4lb scooter battery that powered on a 750w power inverter. So I thought about plugging the ebike charger in the inverter with just 1 small scooter battery. So I asked the man that works at the battery store he told me since the charger is 48v , he said I need to have 4 small scooter batteries to make it 48v. Do I need 4 batteries or can I just use 1 battery. He said if I use less than 48v it can mess up something. Is that true or false ??

And I want to know the lightest weigh electric jump starters that has 700-1000w that has a 120v Ac power inverter. That might keep the e bike charged as I'm ridding ??

Based upon the questions you're asking it seems likely you're going to hurt yourself or your ebike long before you achieve success. Consider doing MUCH more research before connecting anything. And remember: batteries can be dangerous.

    I challenge you to prove me wrong, but I don't think you're actually keeping charge despite what the battery tester reports. The balancing of the batteries by tying them in parallel ensures they remain at the same voltage, and this effect takes a while to wear off when they're separated.
    Try this: separate the batteries and let them all rest for at least one hour. Then test the batteries. I suspect you'll discover the weaker members of the group will no longer read the same as the stronger ones.

      Nobody explained it here? You connect positive from battery 1 to negative of battery 2, , positive of battery 2 to negative of battery 3, positive of battery 3 to negative of battery 4 now the unused terminals negative on battery one, and positive on battery 4 are your 48 volt leads, touch these two together and it will be like a blue flash bulb and spit, and scare you.

    4 batteries connected in series last longer for the same reason 4 horses pulling a heavy wagon live longer. Less drain and exertion on a single horse.

      No problem, glad to help. All 4 batteries are 3-years old. We use them seasonally, about 6-months out of the year in our 5th-Wheel. I use this same charger during the off season to maintain their charge. I am happy with these batteries, but keep in mind these have got to be the least expensive batteries you can buy...they mught be junk in the next 1-3 years. If you have a higher budget, there has got to be better batteries you can buy. Just a thought.

      @@fixintodoitall 3 years old is impressive. That means that the Maxx 29 DC with 2 year warranty aren't necessary. I was thinking of purchasing 4 Everstart H8 AGM batteries because of their 4 year warranty. But if your batteries last 3+ years I might as well buy the basic 29 DC. Do you add distilled water on your batteries?

    I have same setup. Can you please tell me how to work out ccurrent draw on 4 batteries in parallel at eg: 50 amps in hrs to safe discharge? Deep cycle batteries down to 12 volts? Or is it 10.5? Any reply appreciated cheers from Australia 🙂👍

      I would never take a lead-acid below 11.8V. As other commentor stated, 12(.04) is a good cutoff point. So at 12V you have approximately 50% of Ah rating remaining. So, e.g., qty. 4 of 12V SLA batteries @ 50Ah each all in parallel, expect to run 50A for roughly 2 hours or 25A for 4 hours, etc.

      @@dragan3290 Draining from a nominal ~13.8 V to ~11.8V, with all 4 batteries in parallel, you should expect about 210 Ah of actual available energy. If you want to go below 11.8V, I'd recommend you find a datasheet (or call the manufacturer of the battery) and inquire with the minimum safe voltage and DOD.

    I dont see any answers to your question.
    The voltage across the terminals can not be used to determine the remaining amount of energy. To measure the energy you must discharge it.
    Its better to keep lead acid batteries on a tender, so they are always topped off when you need them. even a 1W 12V solar panel will hold them up.
    hooking 4 identical batteries together will not alter their discharge rate. I suspect your experience can be explained by the battery temperature when you measured the voltage or how cold they got while sitting for 3 months.

    You should always connect the positive battery cable first then the negative. If you connect the negative jumper cable first it makes a ground and that allows the positive cable while connecting to spark which could do damage to your electronics system. And for disconnecting your jumper cables from your battery you should always disconnect your negative first that will make it so the positive does not spark when you remove it. This is all my opinion research it before you do this.

      that is only for batteries in a vehicle, the frame is ground, so if your wrench touches ANYTHING in the engine compartment while its touching the + terminal, its a dead short to the frame & ground

      Yes, if you do that on a single battery, but not if building a series string of batteries (in order to increase the nominal voltage).

    Why do people make videos when they aren't sure what they are doing? Charge them all at the same time put positive on battery number one and the neg on battery number four,this will charge your whole bank even.same with your solar panel hook up to get the best charge.thank !you for trying to help but make sure you know what your doing before trying to teach others.

    Unfortunately every one here is wrong. Wiring= positive,1 to 2, 2 to 4,4 to 3. Negative= 4 to 3, 3 to 1, 1 to 2. Charging positive to battery 1, charging negative to battery 3. This will give you a perfectly balanced charge. No disrespect intended I install large industrial solar systems for the military. Windy City as well as a few other have good one lines on series and parallel wiring. I hope this helps and good luck.

    First off. You will have problems when charging battery's in parallel because the internal resistance of each battery is different. So if one has less resistance or the gravity of the battery acid is different strength then some will have more of a burden on the others. Yes the other battery's are loosing the voltage to the less efficient ones, so they may be draining while the others are charging, without the charger.
    Now using the charger, if you have one battery that is at the highest voltage and another one is lesser, the charger will average the voltages and some will not get the top charge they need. Your better off charging them separately. Another thing if the tops of the battery's are not clean they provide electrical paths to discharge faster. Also the battery's will discharge faster if left on the ground. So they should be stored on clean insulating material to prevent that.
    Make sure that all the connectors are super clean when connected. One way is to use a voltmeter across each jumper wire to see if there is a voltage drop indicating that there is a loose or dirty connection. even 1/8 of a volt can disrupt easy starting or charging without good and tight connections.

    You can't get the last 15% out of any lead acid battery. So your claimed 488 amp battery is really a 414.8 amp hour battery. Then at a discharge rate that is considerably higher than the 20 hour rated discharge rate, after a 50% discharge, you really should pretend it needs to be recharged because the discharge rate begins to drop faster. So a 400 amp hour battery should be considered a 200 amp hour battery if it's a lead acid battery. Lithium is a whole another world.

      your statement is not correct
      at 100 A-hr battery will deliver 100 amp hours at the current in the spec for that battery.
      if you drain the battery faster its output is derated
      if the battery is cold its output is derated
      you can find the battery discharge curves on the company website

    I can tell you the difference where I won doesn't work very well why two don't work very well with three don't work very well what food don't work very well why 17 don't work very well wire it up like you do cuz I wire mine up that way the problem is if you take it and drain it down to almost nothing everyday which you're not supposed to do the last least and typically they should last you at least 10 years regardless but that's just a lie. The problem is if you lower your battery is down to almost nothing all the time the battery loses charge it's better if you don't hard to use the batteries all together would use in all the power but just some of the power and the battery's last about 20 30 40 years I know I have some batteries that old that still works like a charm they're called lead acid batteries.

    Why does 41 battery checked the other batteries as if any other battery was lower all the bears equal out into the same power level by shoving all its power to that battery until the equals out to the exact same the gold put a half dead battery on the end of watch it just jump down into almost nothing until equals out but won't jump down to nothing but you sit decrease quick quickly that's what I run has ever start lead acid batteries 1000 amps 135 amp hours. I have to do two different systems all that as a batteries because that's what I get for that $93 a battery two different systems always 212 make a do test because everybody wants to complain and say something different so I was tried over and over and over again and get the same thing proving them wrong yeah I got a big asset that I used to run my house or part of my house anywaysb, because I don't have enough solar panel to run my house.

    You hold more with 4 because resistance is same as the field making full in the bank if u halfed that it is half the bank taking 2 times the heat still and that on a lead acid is acc on both batts being due to "the piggy backs".

    If each battery was labeled A,B,C,D.
    You should have them wired as
    A to B, B to D, D to C on the negative side.
    A to B, A to C, C to D on the positive side
    Then your load/charge should be on
    Positive = C
    Negative = B
