Giselle - Dutch National Ballet

A clip from Act 2 of Dutch National Ballet's Giselle. Myrtha (Igone de Jongh) commands the entrance of the Wilis - the spirits of young girls who have died before their wedding nights. Giselle will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray in early 2010 and will be shown on ClassicalTV.com and NPS (Dutch TV) in December 2009. A Het Nationale Ballet - DutchView - 3 minutes West production.

Breathtaking ! Everything here brings its part of magic and unreal beauty : the quality of dancing, the sadly meditative expression of ballerinas, the stage set and costumes... The tutus are just perfect. The cloudy moonlight is a piece of simple beauty. Bravissimo to the Dutch National Ballet.

They are not FROM the single village. They are spirits summoned TO the single village. Spirits dwell in limbo, they don't rent a flat in a specific place and they can be summoned anywhere, like all demons. They are similar to mænads, they can appear anywhere under the right conditions.
Here, the death of Giselle makes her a willi, so the other willis can appear, no matter where the tomb lays. If an australian maid died the night before her wedding Giselle could arise in Austalia in a flash with her sistren, no need to take a plane or a bus.

I saw this production last week in Vienna. And although the ladies of the corps are really pretty, i would have wished this wonderful choreography, where the Wilis are veiled.
