When I saw 7th element for the first time I laughed and fell in love immediately, so I searched for more of his videos and discovered a legend. Imagine how many people watched the 7th element video and just write him off because he is "too weird". Well I think they missed out on this incredible singer, performer, and songwriter (among his other talents).
he is unique as a voice...a total beauty with a baby face and a big masculin attraction...he is a real love...one of my dreams is being in a live performance of him

I saw the same video of vitas as you before I saw any other of his. I searched for some of his other videos cuz I wanted to laugh at him more. Then I found he was actually a great singer.

just found out about him a month ago... from watching "marvel avengers weirld trailer"... from there i got introduced to 7th element... truly he was memeworthy in there... but then i saw other videos of him doing this insane vocals... then i grew more and more amazed especially finding out how this person is actually one of the most recognized foreign celebrity in china... and so there goes my hat off to him as well..

I think the the trills he does in this song were meant to mimic an actual crane's call.
Though crane calls don't usually sound that high...

Also...
You should know that the first Opera song you reacted to from him was actually called Il Dolce Suono, a piece from Lucia Di Lammermoor.
And one of the most well known performances of said song was in the movie, 5th Element.
The chum drum bedrum song was actually called 7th element. And it dates back to when Vitas first started back around 2000/2001.
As far as I know, 7th element has nothing to do with the movie 5th Element. I think it was just a coincidence that he made his own song of similar
name to the film, and then he later actually performed his own version of Il Dolce Suono, which as stated before, was also performed in the movie.
The original Il Dolce Suono predates both the 5th Element film and Vitas's take on the song.
And about the tongue vocals in the 7th element. That's actually not the only song he's used them in.
He actually sings "the flight of the bumble bee" completely in tongue vocals in his song, "Prelude".
The only other song that I can immediately remember him using tongue vocals in was "I have never loved you".
Though in that one, it was only used in a background vocal track, so you will have to listen for it a bit to catch it.
Though honestly, I think the tongue vocal thing is actually more suited to a background track. Sounds a bit silly
when it's in the foreground.
The tongue vocal thing is what I thought was a bit mad when I first saw him singing the 'chum drum bedrum' sang, coupled with the styling. But while it's still a strange things to do, he actually makes it work which is unusual.
A little curious. Did you happen to notice that Vitas' popularity started going up last year?
I personally have been listening to his songs since 2011, when I happened across one of them.
It wasn't until mid to late 2015 that people started making a meme out of 7th element. It's not an extremely
well known meme even now, but it was pretty slow going at first, far as I could tell.
Internet goers finally seemed to start noticing him as an actual musician starting about the middle of last year.
I don't know what his like count was before September, but I know he hit 100,000 likes on his official facebook
page at the beginning of September and was over 300,000 by the end of October.

Not nearly as popular as stars in America yet. Though I hear he has a good following in Russia and China.
I hadn't noticed to be honest. I only found out about him as one of my subs had asked me to react to his song. It wasn't until I heard some of his other stuff (especially Skyfall) that I took him more serious as a musician. I'm not surprised his popularity has increased but his genre isn't as common as others so might take a while to get going. I've no idea how he rates here in the UK.
Just want to say. In case you haven't heard any of them. Vitas has actually sung some song in Chinese.
The ones I know are "Fairy Tale", "Tibetan Plateau", and "The River flows".
I personally think his Chinese singing sounds excellent.

Vitas voice can go really low, in Blessed Guru, he sounds like a completely different person at some point.
He is an Acter by education...besides music, he studied acting...he is a professional, he is also a very good imitator. He can play with his voice and make different styles, different way of singing: classical, pop, comic, etc...

I know I'm a "tiny" bit late, but i do hope you read this. Chum Drum aka 7th Element was released in 2001 :) it was just his image that made him look weird.. like the Gaga phase i guess.. everyone remembered him because of his weird image.. after he became famous he started dressing up normally.

Don't get me wrong, I like Vitas and love quite a few of his songs.
And I don't doubt he can sing like this in a booth, but most of his life preformances are actually sung by him in a "normal" lower vocal range, and the recorded track activates over it.
