I’m originally from Chicago (not a great part either). I’ve been in Madison for 6-7 years.... My honest take is that Madison may have saved my life 6 years ago. There was a bit of culture shock but the bars were fun, the union was great, summer is beautiful (winter is hideous). Now that I have a family of 5 Madison has become less appealing to me. there is plenty to do with kids here, but the Madison school district has lost some of its value and home prices in the capital have just blown up! Even before Covid. Thanks guys great video.
As an exchange student back in 2004/2005 I had to spend one school year in Madison, WI... Graduated from Lafollette and had the chance to be top scorer for the Lancer's Soccer team.
I have emotional memories whenever I think of such a beautiful city and amazing friendly people. Who love to drink and party and live. LoL
amazingly friendly people? Lol I never met any friendly people when I lived there , they were mostly homeless , psychotic drunks and drug addicts and generally entitled dishonest douche bags
Lol, friendly people? you mean friendly like people leaning out their windows and shouting swear words and slurs at you? friendly like people running over innocent animals and laughing about it? or perhaps you think they're friendly for randomly trying to start fights with people for no reason? there are no friendly people in Madison just rude despicable assholes
Very well said video, The couple did a very good job.
We are considering retiring in Madison. It looks like such a beautiful place. Thank you for your insight.
Lots of beautiful sights to take in!
stay far away from it
@@livinginmadisonwi I hate Madison , it is the butthole of Wisconsin , the homeless panhandlers are aggressive and dangerous, the bus system is a pathetic mess, almost everyone there is either a drug addict , an alcoholic or both and it is the douchebag capital of the world, there are no nice people in Madison , just entitled, abusive , socially deviant and narcissistic assholes. People in viroqua are so much nicer
move to viroqua everyone is so much nicer than the dirt bags in Madison
Is very well done thank you
The scenes of UW-M really brings back memories....it's been a while and I'd like to come back and see how things are nowdays!!
It's gotten worse, please don't go back there
Please for your own safety stay far far away from it, don't even drive through it
@@user-rc1tq6cz4o Why? What's happening? Is it on campus or on State St?
@@LWRC it's happening everywhere in Madison and Middleton including campus and especially state street , the crime rate is very high
@@user-rc1tq6cz4o I'm so sorry to hear that! I went to UW-M for my Engineering degree and am in Southern Califorenia now but haven't been back for a long time. UW-M has a special place in my heart and I'm sure it isn't what it was in my memories!
Do you need a car to live in Madison? I’m moving outside of NY and Madison is my top one
Not necessarily, but winters are frigid for various lengths and an enclosed form of transportation is desired greatly!
Dining? I know for awhile we had the most restaurants per capita in the country. And CONSTANT Beltline turmoil.
You also Have an AWESOME NCAA Womens Volleyball team.. Im not even going to mention Mens basketball cause its a thorn in my side..
Im a conservative single guy looking to relocate to Madison. Which neighborhoods would you recommend that i steer toward?
Madison is an interesting city. Lots of positives. Was much better in the 80s. Very diverse for small city. Can be frigid in winter. Young population. Crime is rising, housing prices are high and property tax is ridiculous. Lots of residents from everywhere. Locals, however, are a bit off...weird folk.
Another thing to know is the high rent rate and my opinion too many bike paths on the street
Agree on the rent! I guess the bike paths are good for bikers and can be a bit to deal with as a driver but overall a win in my book.
I don't think every road needs to be narrowed to accommodate a bike lane.
City parks??? LGBTQ lifestyle??? Homeless issues??? Rampant developer sprawl??? Rising rent/ cost of living??? Increasing property crime?? Overrated restaurants??? Understaffed health care workers??? Racial disparities??
lets not forget asinine drunken buffoonery , or lazy people asking for directions instead of using the gps on their cell phones
That’s pretty much every city in the US
@@dangitjacques5133 Madison WI Blows
does everyone develop that flat midwestern accent?
Yes, the winters do that to you ;-)
Madison WI, the midwests answer to Portland Oregon.. Liberal Heaven
And straight Edge Aro Ace autistic hell
The bike paths are great. The festivals are awesome. However, ugly looking high rises are being built all over the city, adding to density and pollution. The Madison in 10-15 years will be a mess.
Not sure about the high rises, they are relatively small compared to big cities. The city also limits the height on the buildings downtown to protect the gorgeous city skyline.
@@livinginmadisonwi The new buildings are cookie cutter with little or no ornamentation and are huge by Madison standards. I’ve lived here longer than you. I do recognize that things change according to the needs of the present and future populations. These monstrosities with hilarious names like Constellation or Satellite (as if living in them is reaching for the stars) will be what future generations will live in, creating density. Of course that depends if people can afford rent.
Stay away from downtown Madison , unless you enjoy being screamed at by psychotic homeless people when you refuse to let them use your cell phone or give them money for drugs
Thing #1, it is really WOKE!
Is it pretty safe to bike in Madison? Is the crime out of hand? I'm a traveling nurse and am concerned about my safety.
@@marymoowho you should be, don't go there the crime is awful
Buy a gun and get a carry permitm Chicago gangs are shooting it up all over the City. Expect your car to be stolen or broken into. Police rarely respond and the mayor encourages the criminals and rioters. 25 years here I am leaving for my health and to keep my property.
I just moved to St Pete Beach fl and my rent is even cheaper living on the beach... move wasted my whole life in Madison
Good
@@AlphaXVIgames I’ve been to that part of Florida often, much too often.
@@danielmurphy4429 @Sommers I lived in St. Pete for many years. Madison is much better.
It's always good to keep a gun, as I keep a fire extinguisher, but I have lived here most of my life and I have never needed it. Since I was a kid in the 80s people have been saying the big-city problems are coming to Madison. Maybe some problems have increased as the population grew, but so have good paying tech jobs. Sometimes I wonder why they don't state exactly which "big-city" problems are coming from Chicago. In any case, it's never been true. Madison is very nice.
Don’t forget the huge homeless issues. Gun crime.
yes the homeless people are psychotic , they'll flip their shit on you for denying them free handouts and usage of your cell phone
Born and raised in a connecting town from Madison. I used to love it there. It's become a bubble of brainwashed idiots. Very happy I moved away. It's sad what it's become. State street used to be my happy place, now you couldn't pay me to go there. Every min I'm in Dane co I can't wait to get home. Crime is on the rise. Violence has sky rocketed. It's over priced and overrated.
Sounds like a millennial invasion happened there. College town. 👎
I have done the same, I moved just outside the county, the whole place is becoming a communist utopia (no such place) full of gas lit masked morons.
@@amandastoner2864 considering millennials make up the largest population group in the US, this is not suprising.
I agree it's a fucking shit hole
