Deltic D9000 Royal Scots Grey Has Issues!

- What was meant to be a video of Class 55 Deltic D9000 Royal Scots Grey at speed through Grantham in the glorious sunshine on her first tour since October, from London Kings Cross to Edinburgh Waverley after her engine issues were fixed at Barrow Hill was sadly not meant to be. Unfortunately, she was having further powering issues with her second engine and she was looped into Platform 4 after becoming later and later from the Peterborough area. It is believed that she had coolant issues.
After over 30 mins of many attempts to start the 2nd engine up successfully, it kept on shutting down and with the Deltic delaying services, including my train home from Grantham she eventually crawled out of the station with the 15mph speed limit out of platform 4.
After Grantham, it would seem the Deltic was once again looped at Newark Northgate and then again at Doncaster where she would pick up & drop off passengers with Doncaster & Newcastle after an incident happening between Darlington & Newcastle earlier in the day causing big disruptions along the ECML.
As of typing this, it is believed that the Class 90 on the rear, 90001 Royal Scot would be powered up to assist the Deltic on one engine from Doncaster onwards
Fingers crossed D9000s problems aren't anything too serious and that she can come back again better than ever
To end the video on a positive note we feature some bonus footage of Class 37 37608 Andromeda blasting through at speed dragging Class 379s, 379019 & 379004 from Ilford EMUD to Worksop Up Receptions at speed.
Overall we would've liked to have featured some close ups of the Deltic standing there but we just didn't know when it was going to move so the decision to stay put was made. We hope you enjoy what we managed to capture anyway.
If anyone knows what the actual issues were with the Deltic, let us know in the comments below!

Stood in that very spot first time I ever went to Grantham in 1970, copped 19 Deltics in one day!
19 in a day. Taking maintenance and works visits into account 19 must surely be a record at a single location and excluding Doncaster works.
@@brianwillson9567 and to top it off my mate who accompanied us had been there 3 times and ended up with the same 19 as me! Heady days, still got that notebook somewhere!
ooh pants- that's bad news i hope they find out what's wrong with it and get it running again - thanks for sharing this with us much appreciated
You're very welcome, fingers crossed they can fix her for her next trip out whenever that is. She's brilliant loco :)

Stood next to you so exactly same video. you got the train home ok . now subbed
Nice to talk to you, Graham. Thankfully the train was quite slow pulling into P4 lol. Fingers crossed we get better luck with Alycidon on 13th May, might have to come back to Grantham for that. Thanks for subscribing :)

She does sound a bit subdued compared to how she sounded leaving KX..
Somewhat oddly the train itself, due to variations in the booked passing place stops north of Doncaster arrived Edinburgh just over an hour down on scheduled arrival time, which is not too bad.
It ended up having an exhaust fire somewhere between Grantham and Newark northgate and one of its engines having to be shut down
I think we're over dramatising slightly, just an engine shutdown due to coolant loss. It continued through to Edinburgh under its own power
@@AndreiTupolev one of my freinds freinds who loves in Newark told my freind that he saw a small exhaust fire from the rear engine leading to a shut down then it needed to do multiple other stops along the way to be inspected which they wouldn't do for just a coolant issue
It was certainly motoring though our village in Northumberland, the the 90's pantograph was deployed, so may have been assisting
From what I’ve heard the 90 did most of the work after Newark! Sounds a lot like the last time 9000 was out, where a 47 was doing most of the work from the rear
@@al66class59 I think , nice as they are , the Deltics are now too fragile for todays main line running.
@highpath4776 I personally disagree with that statement, it depends on what condition the engine is in. As it wasn't 10 years ago when a deltic was hired out by GBRF for freight work.
@@al66class59 the 90's pantograph was up as they went through Retford
@High Path let’s see how 55009 gets on in a few weeks’ time firstly. I think twin engines might just be cursed - D1015 can’t stay operable either!
Good video
Thanks Simon :)

Didn't like the livery of the rolling stock so went on protest...... Would of loved rail blue mk2s😅😅
Looks like it is running through an overgrown garden
