  • In this video, I'm going to show you how I made a print using just a gelli plate and a bonus collagraph.
First, I did some studies of my subjects using black and white acrylic paint and decided on the composition and colors I wanted to use. I'm excited to demonstrate how to paint with the gelli plate, using a paintbrush and overlaying some color graph design on top. Leaving some dried paint on the gelli plate provides texture and I use masking tape to block out areas I don't want to paint. I use different colors to create different parts of the print, and I show you how to reuse the gellu plate by wiping off the old design with a baby wipe. It's a fun and creative way to paint, and I really hope you enjoy watching me create this print!
Don't forget to subscribe or like if you like my videos - I'll be super grateful!

Collagraphy is a really versatile printing process in which a textured plate is inked up and put through a press. Different textures hold varying amounts. of ink and print different tones. Anything with a low relief texture can be stuck down and used: wallpaper, leaves, fabrics, tapes and threads etc

I am so glad I found this. I recently acquired a gelli plate. After many attempts at painting a large landscape (of somewhere I visited) and not being happy with the results, I am excited to try this method. Thank you. It’s a great video.

Hello, Marta! Thank you very much for sharing your creative process and your beautiful art. I'm learning a lot from you and your videos are a great source of inspiration. I'm new to visual arts as I've been a textile artist for many decades but this year have gotten enamoured with monoprinting. My skills are very basic but I'm learning and can see my progress over the last few months. Your style of techniques and abstract landscapes is what I'm aiming for and I'm extremely grateful to you for posting here. Sending warm greetings from Vancouver, BC.

    • @CollagraphPrinting

Thank you so much, really happy you found it useful. If you wait for the gelli to dry, in order to pull you will need to roll a layer of acrylic paint or medium first.

I’m so impressed with how you plan these pieces by doing studies and design experiments in advance - way more discipline than I have. And you make it look so simple and straightforward! Love your work! I have bounced around with dome different art mediums over the last few years. I am no where near an "artist" just like to create. That being said, I am in love with the idea of printmaking. I love birds, landscapes, buildings...in your opinion what is the best type of printmaking for a beginner, is it okay to not be a seasoned artist?
