    • @bishlap
      @bishlap Před 4 lety +20

      it would be a crime if the R&R HOF meant anything... Its not about inducting the greatest or most influential - it's about most popular/record sellers/personalities, with about 25 bands that truly are GREAT/Hall of Famers.
      I don't think Marshall Tucker wants a plaque between RUN-DMC and MARSHALL MATHERS. The End. Us rock fans from the 70's (and 60's) KNOW the score. If England says Zeppelin, US says Skynyrd; England says CREAM, US says Marshall Tucker; England says Rolling Stones, US says Jimi Hendrix - NOW THERE'S A REAL HALL OF FAME CEREMONY!!!
      Peace all ROCK fans.

      Not Sure They Suffered at all.. Bands like the Marshall Tucker Band were always considered Musician's Musicians... Maybe not for everyone, but those interested in Playing and the Dynamics of Music would study Bands like this.... Looking back , Radio play was and is irrelevant. They are still proving That ... Look at the groups today, that sell out the big rooms and never once had a tune on the radio.........Aaron Lewis, Sturgil Simpson, Dead and Company, Billy Strings, Joe Bonamassa, Derek Trucks, the list goes on and on....No Radio Play at all..

      @@jackoshaw Different era my friend. In TMTB's day airplay was the key to almost any band's commercial success. Compare the airplay Skynard got vs MTB. Which one was bigger? A modern band can gain a following through youtube and downloads because there are no over-the-air stations left to play their stuff or take a chance on an unknown.

    • @kurtjustin7918
      @kurtjustin7918 Před 6 lety +3

      What live sets? The ones Doug Gray has been trotting out for the past three decades while perpetrating a fraud and fooling MTB "fans" who couldn't tell the difference between the sound of a Les Paul and fingernails scratching a blackboard? Or the difference between an amazing baritone and a guy whose vocal cords sound partially severed? And who, exactly, is "they"? "They" probably played this song live over a thousand times between 1975 until 1980, when the real -- and only -- Marshall Tucker Band essentially ceased to exist, except in name. Anyone who thinks Gray's version of the southern Spinal Tap on its last legs is the Marshall Tucker Band is in complete denial, with Doug at the top of the list. I really don't want to offend anyone, but as someone whose life the original Marshall Tucker Band had a huge impact on as a teenager, I find it disturbing that the band has been co-opted in every way, shape and form, starting with the name and the fact that Gray owns it legally. The first -- and only -- 10 years of the Marshall Tucker Band were a joy to behold. The past 35 years of musical malpractice committed by Gray and his ever-changing cast of cover-band characters are a disgrace. And did I mention that his once incomparable voice bears a closer resemblance to that of a terminally ill bullfrog? If this offends anyone, I'm sorry. But many true fans who remember the band so fondly are deeply offended by the "Marshall Tucker Band" circa 1984-present.

    This was my unforgettable experience at the New Haven Coliseum on July 14, 1979:
    A friend and I, who'd earlier in the day gone to the SunFest at Yale Bowl to see The Beach Boys, walked into the Coliseum in the late afternoon through the backstage/loading dock entrance and hid separately until ticket-holders started coming in.
    We had at least two hours to kill.
    At one point, I took a stroll. A Hell's Angels "security" goon saw me, got pissed off, and escorted me out.
    I was walking in front of that scary guy. At one point, just before we reached the exit, he hauled off and slugged me in the back of the head. It was vile and really hurt.
    I went straight to the Sheraton Park Plaza Hotel where the bands stayed and asked at the front desk for Marshall Tucker's manager.
    I was given a room number and told I could go up to see him.
    His name was Joe McConnell. I told him my story. He was so empathetic and angry. He told me "I'll take care of you. Let's go back there. I want you to show me the guy who attacked you."
    We went back shortly before Orleans ("Dance with Me" and "Still the One") came on stage to open.
    I found the gang member and pointed at him. He saw me do it.
    The manager then found the head thug of the Hell's Angels and demanded that the goon be kicked out of the venue. That was done.
    Then the manager gave me a great floor-seat ticket and a backstage pass.
    One of the worst things that ever happened to me turned out to the most moving experiences I've ever had in achieving justice.

      my two cents /Toy was the ultimate talant/Tommy hes brother was the glue{great bass player} the loss of Tommy/was the begining of the end.gray maybe {the lead singer} But TOY wrote and sang MTB band signature song CAN"T YOU SEE. I live 18 miles from here MTB started/and where Toy came back to./I't reminds me of a John Anderson song Catch A Falling Star. Thanks MTB for the Music.

    One of the few times you’ll see George McCorkle play lead guitar. Love this live version of “Searching For A Rainbow.” Is there any reason why the Marshall Tucker Band is not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame? Well? I’m waiting. Crickets in the background.

    They were an awesome band.So original.So much talent and soul.Toy did have that killer tone and speed, and Doug Grey's vocals just cut right through you.Got to give a hats off to Paul Riddle on drums also.He was so fast and yet so precise.You had to be fast to keep up with Toy!
