I've been backstage at concerts, and sometimes security can get a little bully-ish, start giving orders like cops, people don't like it, they refuse to allow them to touch them, and if they try without permission, it can be seen as self defense to shove them off you, even if they fall. That said, they always win with the cops, like bouncers at clubs do. Cops are never taking your side on that.
While I see your point, end of the day, it's a HUGE RED FLAG nowadays for security to have someone aggro there way through a weapons check....

If someone makes a citizens arrest, Police officers are required by law to take you into custody and book you for the crime you’ve alleged .

Also if you listened to the remarks of the chief, the victim is the one that wished to press charges. So she basically said, " yes, I want him charged and I'll speak with the magistrate and sign the misdemeanor warrant. So the police were obligated to take him into custody. I also saw a poster say the security can get a little bully-ish. If it's true that he was trying to avoid going through a weapons check point ask yourself why?

If the officer didn't witness it, they can't make an arrest. They can only take an affidavit and turn it over to the State Attorney's office. A citizen's arrest can only be for 1st person knowingly acting as an agent of a property where a retail theft has occurred in their presence, and the agent knows for a fact the person being arrested didn't pay for an item that they took from a shelf with the intent to bypass the register. Another example that a citizen's arrest can be made is the witnessing of an impaired driver, domestic assault victim or a felony committed in the presence of the arresting citizen. Law suit incoming. What a waste of tax-payer money. This was an EGO arrest.

He should have been given the citation without going to jail, as no witness has ever come forward and told the police that they seen him do what the security guard claims he did.
This may not have been a Race issue, it was however seems to be a misuse of power and the security guard for what reasons only she knows that made her decide to take this action over other ways that it could have been handled.
