They lost 2-1 against Brazil but they scored against Brazil. I mean at that time, Brazil were probably ranked 3 in the world. 1 being Spain and 2 being Germany (maybe?) So to scored against a top 3 ranked team when North Korea were probably near the bottom of the world rankings, is an achievement in itself. I mean they were a pretty decent team to watch and played well against the teams they had in their group. It’ll be good to see them back in the World Cup one day in the future.
And u know what the sad part is .. The NK players were in south africa and so close to freedom ( can easily escape the hotel they were staying at and never make contact again ) , but they couldn't escape as their family and next 3 generation will be imprisoned for it .. Even when they lost they had no options except going back to that country and face whatever the dictator decides to bring upon them .. Breaks my heart
For those who care, you can search the full squad and then search each player individually, most of them are doing fine and some are even players to this day, most are retired tho
Jong Tae-se (starting forward for 2010 North Korea squad) can be seen in the current season (2024) of "Physical: 100" on Netflix. I feel horrible for north Koreans. They're living in hell and there's nobody to save them. Sadly the only "good" outcome is for the country to go so broke that they can't afford weapons and their walls start to break down. Idk I just hate how these people are basically born into prison.
In the interest of the player's wellbeing, FIFA should not allow North Korea to participate in tournaments. It's like we learned nothing since Zaire's situation
If FIFA cared about anything but money they wouldn't host the world cup in Qatar (and a bunch of other nations) either. But they did, so clearly they don't care.
@@FlunksqkProblem is once you start limiting hosting countries, you end up very limited in your options with countries who’ve had recent histories full of evil. UK shouldn’t be able to host due to the murder of innocents in Iraq. USA have caused the highest amounts of civilian deaths through recent history with a huge gap. I actually agree with you, but just pondering the question when does it stop? Morals are subjective, and therefore everyone has different opinions on which countries should be banned and who should not. Ask an Iraqi, they’ll say US and Israel should be banned. Ask a US citizen, they’ll say Russia, Belarus etc. I completely agree with you however, just playing advocate. I personally think the US should be nowhere near hosts of the World Cup
Imagine the pressure and stress the players were going through midgame when they were getting crushed. Probably worried their family was getting arrested
As a Portuguese all I can say is football wasn't made to make people suffer, it's suppose to be an entertainment and a way of bringing people together, in victory as in loss. I feel very sad by the way they've treated their players and manager in North Corea after their loss. In Portugal even when we lose the game we stick together and reassure our team they did well and fought a good fight. If as a country you make your team enter the field "with a sword in the neck" figuratively, you already lost.
Also I just remembered I went to my first cricket match last September and I also kept the ticket in my purse as a memory and my bivtch of a sister threw it I HATE IT I could've saved it like you as a memory 😭
The US nor Israel should be banned as well. Shall I remind you that the US has many many more atomic bombs than NK? 🙄. Let me guess, you learnt everything about NK thanks to Fox News? 😂
That's the best thing! The message is u play u must win. There's no chance for failure if you fail you must die that will make the responsibility on the players. Other nations must also have this practice.

That is not how it works tho.
