He survived the civil war , assassination attempt, and in prison under Sani Abacha when he was accused of plotting to overthrow the federal government in a violent military coup. Arms and ammunition was reportedly planted in his farm at Otta to implicate and finally have him executed. The man survived and came out from prison to become president. He is still alive and plays football and squash at over 90 .
I wish there would be more versions of this event to corroborate this story. Other versions state that Obasanjo was actually aware of the assassination plot, and later sneaked out to Maiduguri where the late business mogul, Alhaji Mai Deribe hid him in his house.
