I really enjoyed the story about Duane Allman camping out in the parking lot and it made me wonder if you had ever looked into the backstory of the session work he did on Laura Nyro’s recording of Beads Of Sweat? Where was it recorded? Who all was involved on that album? Her music has always been a big influence on my own musical journey but it seems like these days that her story and that many of the greatest musicians of the time chose to perform on her albums is somewhat unknown to younger musicians/ recording artists.

@@Producelikeapro Also, another great recording of her’s with a multitude of top musicians is I Am The Blues from the Smile album. I doubt that most people other than her long time fans are familiar with her many musical masterpieces. Most people, if aware at all only know the songs she wrote that other mainstream artists had hits with. Her best works were always these little hidden Jems that you had to get the album’s to hear and appreciate who she really was musically. A songwriter’s songwriter! I love the tempo changes on pieces like Map To The Treasure. No quantizing or snapping to a grid. Just great piano and vocals straight from the heart!

A great tour Warren of one the classic studios. I wonder as the years go on just how many studios there will be left when the dust settles. Like myself, so many musicians are building their own personal studios. A great producer is a great producer though, and same as a great mixing engineer that you just can't replace in many ways.

The little bit at the end:
"Except there are no records anymore, just downloads.. and the downloads are going away."
    "yeh.. oh yes.."
Is a heartbreaker in some ways. I have to own things. I can't just rent them. I don't like that way of dependence. You can't really "build" something on renting. You can't give other people what you're renting once you don't need it anymore, or passed away. I am not a fan of streaming, renting and subsciptions for a lot of reasons. Goes too far to lay it all out in this comment, because it would fill a couple of books. But this little exchange of words felt exactly like this unwritten book would sound if it was read.

I know that you can’t make a general statement about it and that specific songs need a more intense mixing than others. But I feel like that at some point my mixes get worse because I mix too much. I've been recording and mixing in the box, and I have about $200 to play with - what do you think is most important *right now* good headphones (Beyerdynamic DT990) or bad monitors (whatever kind of crap I can get for under $200 a pair)?
I currently have terrible headphones and no speaker monitors. I know room listening is important - but could room emulation make up for some of that on better cans more than I'd get out of bad speakers *and* bad headphones?
