  • In this video I go through how to upload the extension sounds onto the Juno DS. To get started you need a USB thumb drive. Then you just download the Sound Libraries you want to add.

I figured it out! Before the Juno will let you download anything, the Juno has to format your usb drive FIRST. Put your usb in and follow these instructions: Press MENU.
Cursor to "UTILITY" and press ENTER.
Cursor to "FORMAT USB MEMORY" and press ENTER.
Cursor to "OK" and press ENTER.

This is awesome thanks! I loaded all ten expansion packs onto a flash drive, and now I can freely switch between them when I reboot the Juno, using technique to load whichever expansion pack that I need at the time. The Juno has ten banks for favorites which is convenient because it lines up with the ten expansion packs. So I chose to use one bank of favorites to align with the same # expansion pack so that I can recall my favorite sounds from each pack. I still haven't checked yet yet if saving one of the expansions as a new 'patch' version in your 'user patches' saves the whole sound outside of the expansion, but I expect it would because the 'user patches' space is in a separate memory space that doesn't get replaced when you load a new expansion. I did test this though - if you record a user pattern sequence, and then reboot and switch expansion packs - it ends up playing the patches with the same numbers from the new expansion pack, not the old one so... it won't be the same sounds. BUT if you reboot, and reload the same expansion that you used the way you recorded the original pattern, you're good to go, and it plays the same way you recorded it. Similarly with 'favorites' if you favorite a sound from one expansion pack, when you reboot and load another expansion pack, the sounds aren't there, so your when you load the favorite, it tries to load whatever patch is in the current expansion pack.
Not sure how helpful this is, but maybe if someone gets confused or frustrated with how it works this might explain it some ?

By the way, if you get a physically small mini thumb drive, you can leave it plugged in all the time and on the DS61 at least it's tucked in the USB "bay/recess" and won't get knocked off. Nice for leaving Audio Files onboard all the time.
I cheat, and for difficult passages, like some frequent but quick horn riffs for one song, I'll record them onto the right folder on the drive, and instead of physically playing them, I whack the appropriate Pad at the right time, and it instantly plays back each time I do that. I record and edit them in Audacity, or I'll get a DAW and do it that way once I get to that point.

I love the Juno ds. I have it , and i was worried about sounds selection, but turns out it has really nice basses working great with the bend stick /pitch bend, it can even mute some of the bass when you pull the stick up, which is very cool, aand its got the classic jump sound from van halen. nice strings, pads, drums. i only regretting not buying a 76 model, since i feel i dont have enough space / enough keys when playing in splitmode, but i went to get the juno x and go for two synths instead!! :D

Hello, thank you for your excellent video, I just did a practice run by downloading the exp 03 world collection. Scrolling through my Juno I can't seem to locate the sounds. For example, I scrolled through looking for the gypsy trumpet and I'm not sure where it is. I was assuming that it would be in the world bank is there any way of locating these. I will try again with a different bank and see if it appears in its respective section. For example I will try the orchestra collection and try and locate it in the orchestra button on the keyboard.
I just realised that there are no increases in numbers in any of the sound categories. where do I find these added sounds, or were they actually already loaded into the Juno when I bought it

I really had high hopes that this would work for me but just like any other technological item, it didn't work for me. 😔

Then it turned out that I had the expansion thumb drive directly from Roland so I thought I would give that a whirl. Easy, right? Not for me!
The instructions were pretty straightforward but when I went to hit the numeric button and power, the screen was very similar to yours but did not have the ability to download anything somehow. Any clue as to what is happening there? I put a call into Sweetwater and hopefully they'll be able to figure it out for me but in the meantime, if you see this and you have a clue, I would greatly appreciate some insight!

@@Exalter thanks for the answer ! I Indeed found a software on Roland site, I have now to learn how to use it 😅 (it's not very user friendly). For exemple I didn't found how to modify the pad's sound..

How many expansion packs can you put into the ds at once?

Very disappointed in this keyboard, you can only load one bin at a time and when you load a second bin it changes your favorites. What good is that? Nobody could tell me why my favorite patches were changing until I figured it out on my own. Roland's support sucks!

Hello, please make another video. The current expansion sounds no longer have .bin file. There is no documentation on how to load the new file extension. The new file extension is jxl.
