    What did you think of Fort Wilderness and the Cabins? How do you feel about the conversion of the Cabins into a Disney Vacation Club resort option? I can't wait!

    They will no longer look like cabins which is sad. They will look more like futuristic pods and because they will be part of dvc, it will be harder for many to book not to mention more expensive. But this video was really good and shows just how awesome fort wilderness is. It just feels like a different place.

    • @DisneyVacationFamily
      @DisneyVacationFamily  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, they will look more like pods I think but it will still be a very natural setting... and I don't believe they will be harder to get or more expensive... if anything, they may be more available and cheaper if you rent points from an owner... the current cabins just didn't sell as well... the current campground visitors were not filling up the cabins... it's a good transition move for Disney, I think... much less invasive than the original Reflections plan... yeah, FW is awesome... it totally is a different place and a wonderful experience... thanks for commenting!

    Beautiful resort! Still haven’t stayed here. I think it would have been a better fit for DVC cabins over at Reflections where River Country was along with more upscale restaurants and keep the cabins the way they are. It will be interesting to see if they go ahead with this project at Fort Wilderness. Enjoyed watching from beginning to end👍🏻

    • @DisneyVacationFamily
      @DisneyVacationFamily  Před rokem

      I agree... the cabins would have been perfect for Reflections but I also think this is a great transition that will have much less pushback... a lot of people were up in arms about Reflections (I wanted it to happen)... this will be less disruptive a change into DVC... thanks Louis... yeah, I'm excited to see what happens... they will definitely need to add some dining options...

    I just hope they keep the atmosphere and charming theme of the campground with all the changes. I don’t agree with the complaints about the dining. People need to keep in mind that is a campground not a hotel or resort. You shouldn’t expect the same kind of experience. People grill and cook their own food at their campsites or in the cabins hence the full kitchens that are provided. The fact they had a fabulous dinner show and an additional restaurant when it was trails end or just the P& J takeout along with the food trucks and snack bar at the pool. That’s way more options than any other campground I’ve ever experienced.

    • @DisneyVacationFamily
      @DisneyVacationFamily  Před rokem

      I think they will keep the atmosphere and charm... the cabin area is a bit removed from the main campgrounds areas... last time I was there, the only food options were a dinner show or a quick service or a canteen... with Trail's End gone, it really limits dining options... and I do feel it is a resort... even per Disney's own website, it's referred to as 'Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground'.... I agree that the same kind of experience should not be expected... but when they refer to the place as a resort, I would expect some dining options... I love the cooking and grilling outdoors and in the cabins, we cooked meals as well (though the kitchen was not a true 'full kitchen'... the 1-bedroom villas have real full kitchens... the cabins have a 2-element cooktop and no dedicated oven, etc. Oh, I agree that it has way more options than most campgrounds... 100%... I loved the experience... I take it you are not a fan of the cabins becoming a DVC option? I really appreciate your comment and thank you for helping others who see your comment be part of the conversation... at this stage, I'm sure there are more unknowns than knowns... either way, I'm excited to see what Disney does with the cabins... I feel that many people who love the campgrounds will likely not be too optimistic about the cabin conversion... but we will see... I'm hopeful :)

      Yeah, seems a lot of people are upset... some I speak with are upset but have never stayed in the cabins or ventured to that end of the resort... I'm excited too! I think it will be wonderful and I do not think it will 'interfere' with anyone in the campground or disrupt their 'ambiance', etc. I am saving now to buy into the Cabins... yeah, it will all come down to point chart and price per point at opening... I'm hoping it's about $190 ppt with incentives bringing it down maybe to $180-ish... and I'm hoping points per night is about 1.6-1.7X that of a typical studio versus the 2-2.5X for a 1-bedroom villa...

    It will be a SAD day for the Fort Wilderness Campground to see these cabins removed and replace by a DVC resort with modern so called cabins. We have stayed in the cabins several times and loved it. I am NOT a fan of these new cabins and turning the cabins area into a DVC Resort. Disney should leave the current cabins alone and where they are and put the new DVC Resort cabins and pool where the Reflections Resort was suppose to be built. It was also SAD to learn that the Trails End Restaurant was close to make it a Quick Service restaurant instead of a sit down restaurant.

    • @DisneyVacationFamily
      @DisneyVacationFamily  Před rokem

      But the current cabins don't sell well... they are rarely full... doesn't that send a message about how people feel about the current cabins as well? I mean, it seems like a good transition and a smart move for Disney, no? It seemed there was a big outcry about Reflections as well though when that project was announced... and everyone claimed it would ruin Fort Wilderness... this is a much less invasive option I think... I wonder why Trail's End closed? I was surprised by that move.. we loved Trail's End... and we love the cabins... but also optimistic about the DVC Cabins being awesome as well... thanks for your comment... appreciate the dialogue..

    • @jamiev7165
      @jamiev7165 Před rokem +1

      Same here, I am DEVASTATED about the new "cabins." Disney management just can't leave good things alone. They keep modernizing their hotels.

    • @DisneyVacationFamily
      @DisneyVacationFamily  Před rokem

      Do you typically stay in the cabins? Or in the campground? What about the conversion into units that will likely have an increased rate of 'no vacancy' devastates you? I think that they will modernize the unit but keep the focus on being 'natural' with the same footprint and ambiance... hard to say until we see what they plan... thanks for your feedback... love seeing both sides of this planned move...

    • @jamiev7165
      @jamiev7165 Před rokem +1

      @@DisneyVacationFamily I've actually never stayed in the cabins, but I definitely will now. I'm upset that Disney is taking away the originality of the cabins. It's one (if not the last) of their remaining hotels that still has that nostalgic character and charm. I also think Disney is being greedy and trying to make money off of DVC members and prioritize them over people like me, who are not wealthy enough to be members. There's a Disney blog that I follow and this guy explains how I feel very well.
      czcams.com/video/PpMUys4gaOQ/video.html

    • @DisneyVacationFamily
      @DisneyVacationFamily  Před rokem

      But, if people don't stay in the rooms and therefore, support keeping them full, how can a business be expected not to try to optimize no-vacancy rates? I don't understand that part... new structures will not (I hope) take away from the character of the property... and charm is nice, but my understanding is that the cabins at Fort Wilderness are typically discounted and cast members get discounts at them, etc. because they are not being booked up as much as desired... there are only a few DVC resorts that don't have a hotel side for others to stay at... but Disney also offers other categories at lower rates, such as the value resorts and moderate resorts... I will watch the blog link you provided... thank you... So far, the people I hear from who don't like this idea are people that go to Disney (and stay on property) rarely... who perhaps stay in the campground (which is not even really in the same area as the cabins), and who have never of maybe have once in 10 years actually stayed in the cabins... Another argument is simply this... if a cabin currently costs $550 per night, by making them DVC, you actually can get into them cheaper by simply renting points from a member. Yup, you could save 40% compared to booking directly through Disney... so, there's that as well... it actually helps the property, increases use, and makes it more affordable for non-DVC.... in my opinion :) Thanks Jamie.

    • @DisneyVacationFamily
      @DisneyVacationFamily  Před rokem

      It's closed... now they use it as a quick service spot only... Trail's End was always a buffet spot... no more... they used to have Trail's End as the buffet and P&J's Southern Takeout as the Quick Service (grab and go)... but now, if you look these up, you will see that there is no more P&J's Southern Takeout ... it essentially has taken over the name of Trail's End, but it's a quick service. So, the original Trail's End as we knew it ... is no more... so, technically, you can eat at 'Trail's End', but it's not what we all knew and loved.

    Yet another Disney Classic is stripped of its personality and put behind a major paywall; wanna know what I think? Tragic. Just like the new Poly DVC, that in no way even resembles the iconic hotel. They'll fight tooth and nail about paying their Cast Members a living wage, as they pour more millions into ugly corporate DVC resorts. I'm in Disney's corner on the recent unpleasantness with a certain Hitler wannabe, but they seem just as determined to pander to the rich as he is.

    • @DisneyVacationFamily
      @DisneyVacationFamily  Před rokem

      To be fair, the new Poly tower might have similar personality or may not take away from the original Poly property... I don't think the new Cabins will impact any aspect of the Fort Wilderness atmosphere... current there about 400 cabins and with DVC they plan on converting it to about 350, adding a pool, walking trails and perhaps a dining option... but the cabins area feel removed from the campground to me already... I cannot imagine Disney changing the vibe (natural, outdoorsy) of the place... yes, like many corporations, I agree, there is a constant battle between wages and profits for shareholders... I get that... I think for those who don't want change at Fort Wilderness, the cabin conversation will be far less invasive and dramatic a change than the original Reflections plan... I'm optimistic about Disney making this work without stripping the personality from Fort Wilderness... we shall see how it pans out... I hope you are wrong because I want to love the new Cabins! :) Thanks so much for watching and expressing your views on the topic... love the dialogue!
