- Propagation of Monstrose Cactus from cuts.
This video shows the cuts and the progress of rooting over 3 months.
The mother plant is over 9 years old and it started in a 2 inch pot from Home Depot. Yes, It had a flower glued on it and the label said that it "may have been enhanced". ^^
You got good root system development. Your plant sized up nicely in only eight years . One of the more attractive ‘monstrose’ cactus. This variety was one of the first cactus that I had many years ago. It grew well until I left it in my sister’s care and she somehow managed to kill it. I think that she never watered it, like ever.
Thanks! I probably should have been shaping this monstrose the whole time... it is so dense in the inside area. I really like the shapes that grow from the cuttings. Thanks for watching!
That’s great, I wondered about taking cuttings from these types of cactus, they rooted very well. Thank you for sharing with us, have a great weekend 🌵☀️🌼🌺🏜
^^ For years, I waited for them to flower ^^ I still do not fully understand Monstrose cactus. .. but I do like them.
Great video ! You have a lot of really nice plant specimens !
Wow!! That’s a lot of roots in just 3 months. I only tried propagating a monstrose cactus once and it was not successful. It was an attempt to rescue from too much sunburn. Great job on that one, Hank. 😃
Thanks! I am really happy with how they turned out. They spent a lot of energy on those roots... Now, I want to see new growth from the top. The weather just got warm enough for them to wake up... Hope your day is really good.
Oh wow that's great. Glad the cuttings took root and you have so many now. Love the big cactuses on the ground.
Thanks for watching! Just now feeling settled in the greenhouse. Propagation fun as we regrow. ^^
FANTASTIC video Hank, and very much needed as there is little info online about taking cuttings from Monstrose cacti, and so happy the cuttings have rooted so well, the Mother plant is INCREDIBLE and a HUGE size, and your greenhouse and all your plants are all looking AMAZING, and the Deer in your garden is a sweetiepie haha, thanks so much for sharing this wonderful video, and sending you and your adorable kitties lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Oregon for a super Sunday today XXXXX
Thank so much! I am really happy with how it all turned out. The baby deer was a fun surprise that I had to share. Hope your day is really good!

A nice green house you have. And the plants in it look happy. Greetings from Thailand. The temperature is colder in OR than in CA but you have an echinopsis flowering or was that a few months ago?
The echinopsis flowers early in the video were from 3 months ago. Most of the flowering is done for this year on those. Thanks and welcome to the channel ^^
Lindos💚🌵
Great video! How long did you have to let the cuttings dry before replanting them?
A day or two should do it. Not in direct sunlight and not getting wet. Hope your day is really good. ^^
That's monstrose peruvian apple cactus, I don't think it's in echinopsis
Has it ever or can it flower?
I have never seen a flower and I think they do not have flowers. I waited and hoped and then propagated it with this method. ^^ Hope your day is really good.
Do they bloom?
I do not think they ever bloom. I have had it since a 2" pot. ^^ Hope your day is good.
