Still a fan of the longe videos, love the the banter and ideas and all the what nots.... sweet knife
Cool knife. Wish it had a lanyard hole, though. Thanks for sharing!!
I picked this knife up from SMKW this last year, by far my favorite edc knife. Been using a RAT5 for years, sanded down handles etc, but this one from SMKW, just like mine, I love this knife, did I say that yet. It's quick, lively, and still heavy enough for most any task.
Don't need a lanyard hole. I like the super narrow scales, the little shapened swedge, it's cool.
Nice to see an esee finally make the Jessica list! Great video, Chris. I like the idea of the second channel too.
I like that they got rid of the choil and gave you a bit more blade.
Not crafting bushes today... Love that. Thanks for doing what you do.
I've always enjoyed your longer videos man, I really like hearing all the info and see you using the knife and what you think about it during use.
Also when Will from Mantis Outdoors chimes in
Splendid review as always Chris!
Love to see you do what . Are taking about doing
Definitely one to get, thanks for the review Chris!
Love it! 5 minutes is perfect 👍🏻
I never could warm up to the Laser Strike. This one looks like a solid winner! Looks like I'll be getting my 3rd ESEE very soon!
I have almost picked that knife up several times over the years. I really like it. Hopefully soon. 👍🏻
Love the long vids, but hey if your looking i believe 7mins is a great window. It may be the first esee im looking at. Good, good stuff chris.
You just helped me pick out my birthday present, Thanks
Really awesome ESEE knife design!!! :D
Love his account of his "over confident, under prepared" scouting trip and his close encounter with a bull moose. Literally put him up a tree. I live in Finland and stainless steel goes well with the very wet weather. The curly birch handles help in very cold weather too. The Sami people know a lot about cold, wet weather and knives.
A Splendid review Chris.
I see what you did there.
Splendid video. 😎😉
"crafting any bushes"😂. The short reviews is actually a good idea. Gives a good impression to see if I want to look further into something. If you say it's good I'll watch the longer one. Say it sucks I'll move on faster.
Awesome review!!!
wow Chris, i never thought ya would be doing esee videos .... i've had the cm6 for about 2 years now .. they are great carry blade, but when i head to the bush i have to grab up the good ol RAT7 .... yea its a ontario but i just love that blade!!
that is a very good size and geometry knife. I know Essee makes quality, I would love to get my hands on one of those in the field someday. good review
Yup. This is going on my carrier. Done thinking about it.
Love that knife also. Agree on the micarta got to get. Long or short great informative video
Great knife... I've owned it for a little over a year now! It's even better with the TKC g10 scales. Im looking now to get the Laser Strike... that's looking to be my new fave (I borrowed my buddy's one weekend and it was amazing). I still, and always will, love simple high carbon steel...O1, 1095, 1095cro-van, 5160, 52100, etc are steels that are timeless! I love 3v, Z-Wear PM, and cruwear... for a short weekend 3v is great, but for long adventures into the wild for a week or two, I def prefer O1 or 1095 to 3v.
Been watchin youre vids for many years now. Was a different intro. Good luck with the new channel.
I love spear point designs, the TKC scales make that knife phenomenal! Gives me the warm and fuzzies you reviewed a couple ESEE’s. They’re the poor mans LT, BHK, Bark River.
I love the blade design more than the standard Essee 6, but if I’m taking it as a “do it all” survival blade, the lack of a lanyard hole is a deal breaker for me. So unfortunate considering it’s such a simple thing to include on a mid weight survival knife, like the regular Essee 6.
Personally I like your ad libs. That’s what is awesome about your channel.
Tactical knife with no glass-head breaker. Thats a deal killer for me.
Use a rock or your gun butt :) However I would still choose the Esee 5 much nicer cheaper and same blade size.
I have the Essee 6 Essee 5 and the First Edge 5050. This knife really resembles the First Edge except no pomel.
Awesome knife!
Looks good daddie
I would love to see the 5 min reviews! If you’re talking smaller ESEE’s look at the 3hm or even the CR2.5. Both great!
A very splendid video. 😜
I really like this one
Cheers Mate!
Screw the rules, I agree 💯% . I do what works for me too. As long as safety first, I am going to work it my way ,- -- don't mean ☺ I won't take advice especially when it is a good idea 😉
With scales like those from TKC and a lanyard hole (WTH?), I think this knife would be absolutely "splendid."
Hope to see the new channel. Please post a link when you have it up and running.
Thanks for the good review, I hadn’t been aware of this model either but it looks like one I’d like. Just a little feedback, some details you might consider pointing out in future reviews would be the absence of gimping on the spine, the type of grind on it and what that.is suited for, absence of a finger choil, absence of a lanyard hole, and the thumb lock on the sheath. Those might seem self evident for a seasoned knife hobbyist but for the less sophisticated viewers I think those would be worth mentioning. Take care
Nice reveiw , also you should review the esee laser strike , it's a pretty damn good blade too
Good looking knife.
Nice knife Sir! Thanks for video
i have had this knife for over 2 years ....... its not new
@@sangamonriverrats6769 Learn something everyday. Thank you for pointing that out.
Very nice
I like the G-10 handles on my Esee 6 but I am probably gonna add blaze orange lanyard to it so I don’t lose it in the dark.
No linyard hole , why ? Nice knife
I've owned the Esee CM6 for over a year now. I love the knife as a hole, but deeply dislike the handle scales. They were far too thin, flat, and square. A few weeks ago, I bought TKC g10 scales and they turned the CM6 into one of the best knives I've ever held! The g10 scales are contoured and add a far better grip as they are also thicker. IMHO, they are must have addition to the CM6.
MMMMMMmmmmmm splendid......splendid indeed.
Ratmandu, do it! I'd love to hear your opinion...
Trying to do SHORTS before they were a big thing - ahead of your time, Chris.
Eh, I'm a old school fan. I like the longer videos and all the stuff that comes with them!
Don't have an ESSE. Alot of OKC's but no ESSE's. I really like this one and the lazer strike, because they are a good solid tool. Tennessee
30 sec. or 30 min. doesn't matter, I'll always watch. Keep it up!
sweet knife! i still like the long videos. but wouldn't hurt if you wanted to do some short ones also. Maybe some vlog style vids with some quick (if that's possible for CT) thoughts on whatever you're doing or using.
Current price 3/31/2021, $167- black G10. $145- tan micarta. SMKW. I wish it had a Kraton handle to make it more grippy out of the box. It reminds me of a better designed SRK in SK5. Fitting into the same role.
I did some grinding and made my schf37 to look like this blade. I’m really happy with the end product. It’s a heavy tactical combat utility knife now. With a kydex I had made. And I wrapped the handle in a ribbon of bicycle inner tube.
Damn you Chris now I have to buy another knife! Thanks
Looks like they sent you the combat tactical version. I've got a regular Esse 6. Was debating on the HM version or this one. I like my 4HM. Thanks
I've got the 6HM (and 4HM) I really like it for crafting due to the handle which can be used without fatigue in many hand positions. I really like the blade on this but I have concerns about the "slab" scales for prolonged field use. If it had fuller scales I would have ordered it already. If Knife Connection makes some scales for this model I'll have to jump on it, but for my use, the 6HM will continue the ride on my belt.
@@ElementBushcraft Appreciate the feedback. I think the 6HM would better suit my needs.
Plus one for HM 6. Despite everydaytacticalvids favoring the other version
@@sameold77 got a pic of my modded HM6 here: instagram.com/p/Bx7hJMAh7Yk/
Great knife one of my favorites for sure. I still wish they had put a lanyard hole on it!
5 min is fine. 3 min would leave us all with the feeling of "not enough"
Good video. Not sure if I will add it to my collection. Lol, said that before.
Chris...what do you think about the 10 Commandments... those are the ultimate rules...
The blade is excellent and the fact that they didn't put that useless choil makes it perfect, but the handle is fubar.
I like the junglas 2 personally
I like it. I'm a fan of knives like that, regardless of whether they are good for bush craft. I imagine it will tear up a baton, but who cares, it's cool..lol
Reminds me a little of my favorite esee of all time....the laser strike....have you tested the laser strike yet
it's there SMKW gunsmoke edition bud i own that model as well with the knife connection scales
Very good looking knife, I too think micarta would be better for grip.
I'd still probably watch both but it would be awesome to watch a teaser vid that wets the palate. There's a few models of Esees that have the G-10 substitute. Pretty sure it's the gunsmoke finish ones or whatever. Peace.
I'm guessing 30" doesn't count ten second intro's.😳
That commercial had me saying," Darn right brotha, best knife ever!"
Then the best knife got BK9ed!!!
5 minutes is perfect
Honestly, I'm not even interested in most of the knives you review, especially the Bark Rivers and other ones that are way out of my price range. However, I still watch all those reviews, purely for entertainment. I enjoy the rabbit trails, long discussions about your impressions, and the occasional surprises. Lots of people do basic, informational reviews, but very few hold my attention. Thanks for the great, full-length videos, and please keep it up!
That's why it wouldn't be one or the other, but both. Thanks.
@@preparedmind101… I agree with Jim. Many of the knives you review are never on my radar for purchase. I do, however, take a particular interest in Esee knives. Regardless if I am going to buy a knife or not, your reviews are informative and by watching them (and other youtubers) I have learned much about knives over the last year or so.
Hey... what about striking the ferro-rod with the 'sharpened-swedge'? or is that also coated?
@PM101 YO Shell back, just binge watched "The last ship"..you should check out out !
Since you go to SHOT show, if ROWEN has a booth, could you talk about it? I think people mix it up with TOPS. I live in Idaho Falls.
I like the look of the knife just the sharp end on the other side in California that would be a double side blade.
Do these have skeletonized handle stock? If they do I'll pass. Otherwise, I love the concept as a stabber with no finger choil and saber grind.
Five minute format sounds great. Keep the info format consistent and work off a printed script to minimize editing. Then use the script for the paper cut test and improvise your impressions so the format is not to rigid. Posting the specs on screen would let viewers pause the info they are concerned with. Did you try using the sharpened swedge to throw sparks?
The big difference is the sharpened swedge. Is it a problem when batoning? A little disappointed to not see any batoning test. Otherwise good video Chris. Thumbs up to the channel
Like the long vids
The original Esee 6 P with the drop point is plenty "tactical" .
I wish you'd adopt the policy of not showing us things we can't buy. This specific knife is an example.
Nobody offers that knife with that handle. Phooey.
I love my cm6 only problem with it is you cant get it un sharpened on the back edge as that makes it double edged in alot of states i rounded the back edge on mine
This vs the TOPS tex creek XL? I'm looking at the TOPS for 30AUD cheaper?
I'm partial to drop points. I really like my lazerstrike
What was the small knife you used on the fire steel?
How do you get planes and lawn mowers helicopters to fly over and around when you are doing vids ?
Like they were ordered! He must live in a high population area
Can you please do a review on the tops mowhawk hunter?
For some reason the sound is cutting in and out for me. I try a different device.
In terms of blade profile, it looks a lot like a BK16 to me. Very different handle though. It's too bad you don't still have that knife to do a side by side.
And yes, I just peeked, Esee's official copy for this blade calls it "splendid for camping..." You're not crazy!
Yeah I guess I never got that either about the whole having to strike a farrow rod on the spine of the knife,I mean an absolute emergency sure. But how big is and hard is it to carry a striker for a rod , lol?
Anyway thanks Smoky Mountain for allowing him to figure out how he can make some other convenient shorter content for viewers and further his success , rather than do prepared video with more content about the knife )on your dime)!.
I been carrying a ESEE4 for about 5 years EDC, and thinking I want a little bigger
So would it not be good for bushcrafting?
Not bad, like the profile for an esse it's different.
I'm good with the longer videos ,to much information will be missed with short videos
SMNW was the only site that I had seen with the black handles .
Yes, i live in California and yes... it is so horrible(legally lol).
ive never been an esee guy before but this one is quiet good looking
Looks similar to the SRK .....I like it.....
I only carry 1 knife at a time, but I also carry a Bic Lighter.
