- After completing Tears of the Kingdom, I was INSTANTLY wondering what the Great Sky Island would look like in Minecraft. So today I built up the tutorial region of Tears of the Kingdom, including Shrines of Light and the Temple of Time.

The wind temple

Depths
Though I know you are trying to avoid mods, the immersive portals mod allows you to set up dimension stacking, where you can put the sky islands and depths in their own dimensions above and below the mainland. This keeps shadows from blotting out the overworld too.
He could use the nether deltas to keep the Depths within darkish fog
And can spam light blocks to keep shadows away
It would also work with the shrines of light, with their optical illusion in totk

2:20 I'm so glad you're using light blocks! When doing an epic build, there are always situations where an actual physical light-emitting block would look out of place, but light blocks are invisible when they're not selected in your hotbar, which is super useful!

for the foliage color, try an orange color. red and green make yellow, and the sky island foliage is already slightly orange, so i think it would work out well

That shot of the island at night with the shrines glowing looked so cool!!! I'm still amazed by how much time and care go into these builds!
As for the foliage color, maybe try adding some red into it since the game's foliage is closer to gold?

I know you always talk about how difficult these builds are but you make it look effortless lol. Your ability to look at things and recreate them using what Minecraft gives you is insane. As a geometry teacher, I can say this takes some high intelligence on your end especially when considering the intuitive ability for scaling and proportion you seem to have. Honestly I think this is a perfect representation of what the great sky island looks like in TOTK. Super impressive.
It's so weird bc the game has barely been out for two months and this is already giving me nostalgia :') the build is amazing, I wish I could live on this map

It just has such a different feel to everything else in the game, and it's the only area like it, at the VERY start of the game
Right, I feel the same! Nothing will ever beat the immense emotions I felt when jumping off from the room of awakening and seeing the great sky island for the first time, thinking “wow, so much more to explore!”.
Just wish the other sky islands were as good
@mollydalmatian Dude, I understand that, I wish there were more mass archipelagos like the first one, the rest are all tiny with not much going on, Dragonhead island is kinda expansive
You really need to use a shader and skip to sunset for the Sky Islands to have that TotK feel.
The yellow seems a bit too green close up, but looks sooo good at a distance. Very close to how I see it in TOTK.

My only critiques would be that the temple of time looks a bit slim/narrow compared to how it is in-game, and imo just some sort of regular stone eg. andesite would look better for the dark prismarine sections.
Btw, I'm pretty sure you can use a super simple data pack to increase the height limit of the world, which might be worth looking into :)

i went back into totk and those prismarine sections are like almost perfectly color matched to deepslate lol
Totk has surprisingly low amounts of sky content so you’ve basically finished most of it. Against all the marketing the game’s main story point would be the depths. I’m interest how you guys are even going to build those. Great work as always tho.

I know you try to avoid mods, but immersive portals would be extremely useful for the transition from surface to depths and chisel and bits would be amazing for all the small details!
can we just talk about how great the main totk theme is? its awesome.
Also I can't wait to see the light dragon, the stormwind arch, and the fire temple, alongside the entire depths

@@dumpster86 He might be able to just fill in the entire underside and then get the map, flip it upside down, and delete that part. (Also maybe change it all to a block he hasn't used yet.)
OMG this is amazing, as usual! Especially the shrine design, and obviously the temple of Time! You are a monster 😂 I must say though, I'm not sure about the blue/green blocks to represent the edges of the sky islands? In the game, the mold sometimes makes them look a bit blueish but in Minecraft, the blue sticks out a LOT imo. But everything else is perfect 👌
I love how it looks and I love that you are dying inside to do all this. Makes this map even more thrilling to play. Knowing someone had suffered to make it. I love that kind of effort

I'm making a sky island themed base and for the grass I used yellow carpet, the top sides of hay bales and path blocks then for the trees I used birch wood, yellow wool and concrete, and raw gold. It came out looking incredible so if you want I recommend just trying it for yourself to see what you think. Even if you don't do it I still love how it looks, you nailed the zonai buildings much better than I did.
I made a sky island and used path blocks. It’s the perfect color imo. I used wool for the tree leavea

@@sellerspiano9811 That's what I did at first but it just didn't feel right so I added hay and carpet. Path blocks definitely are the way to go but it's up to the builder if they want more variation or not.
@@Luke_Dalton omg hay is genius. Tbh I’m not the best builder so it looks a little boring up top (literaly just path blocks and azalea trees replaced with wool) so I tried to make one of those little blue zonai light things with a soul campfire
the grass you did looks a bit green because it's adding a yellow tone ONTO the base green, it's not just making a yellow grass texture. what you want to do it make the colour a bit more in the orange direction
You could flip the island and build it bottom up when it comes to the underside, then just reflip it. I find it easier building that way, because I feel like the WorldEdit smoothing tool behaves very strangely upside down.

The other types Minecraft artists in the community literally blow my mind. Building on a scale like this is 5000x harder and takes so much longer than making skins!!! bravo :)
Grazzy my guy. I love the build, massive respect for doing most of this by hand/only with world edit. If you wanna save a bit of your sanity, hmu and I can show you some tools to cut through some of that menial work. Great vid!

Not gonna lie, I’ve been seeing your videos since u started the Great Plateau over a year ago, and your content and quality has just been skyrocketing lately. you are becoming such a good builder and for that I have massive respect to you for your constant dedication to this project.
With the use of the imersive portals mod you could also make an interior of the first 4 shrines, however I know you're not wanting to use mods and keep it vanilla judt throwing my hat in the ring.
He's building this with no mods so people can access it and play on it without much lag

Keep up the great work! I remember I used to make Minecraft builds but it's incredible how accurate your builds are and how quickly you can build them, wish I knew about the shortcuts you use back then!

I've tried making full worlds before, but due to so much building and structuring, I gave up. I am very impressed that you've pulled it through and done so much! I can just feel the pain, but it's worth it! Awesome work 👍
You could have put blue eyes behind regular ice as the color palette for the rocks and the snowy area
I did actually try that but you could still see through the ice on corners and I didn’t like that

Wowie! This is fantastic, you never cease to amaze me with your building skills. I know a lot of people talked about foliage but I hope I'm not the only one to point out the lily pads from the lakes! All the wide shots of the build look super cool but the lake are lacking a touch of something and I think the lily pads would be a great way to fill that in! Great work! Impressive. A lot of minecraft replicas of other game worlds do not really work well, the feeling doesn't translate. Often the scale is off or the texture chosen for blocks just isn't right. I felt that this really nailed what the island looks like, it had the right degree of meticulousness for those sorts of things. Everything just sits right.

The Depths is going to be insanely easy since all he has to do is flip the BotW map inside out and copy/paste a handful of trees and structures everywhere.

Kind of an embarrassing story, but I got 3 of the [SPOILER] and very close to the end with awesome gear. For fun, I looked back at an old trailer, and I was like "Wait, what is that shirt Link is wearing?" It looked like it went to the archaic legwear, and I thought maybe I missed it. I went back to the great sky island, and it was in a cave I have never seen before, literally right in front of my face. So I got one of the very first sets of armor, around 3 quarters into the game.

For building the sky islands, you could try making the bottom part upside down, then flipping it. You did that for the Dueling Peaks and it worked out well.

i cannot believe you did all of this while also working on (or i guess as a detour from but its the same thing its still impressive) the botw map! your skill in this is crazy!
the one thing ill say is that pure yellow is between green and orange, and in most cases when one is expecting a warmer yellow and gets a pure yellow it feels really green as a result. perhaps try nudging it a little over to the oranger side? keep up the good work!

Great job on the build! I can't wait to see you do Hebra next. Thankfully if you were to do a TOTK version of your project the sky shouldn't be so hard since sadly most of the islands are very barren and repetitive. Good luck on your future builds though!

Just got so startled when I heard Windmill Hut/Song of Storms in the background at around 21:30, and as for some other details, I think the shrines are already really cool, but at the bottom of the green-blue swirl, which is more blue, I’d suggest maybe using or trying sea lanterns because those are more blue, then maybe switch to the green frog lights already there? I think it would help keep the different colors bright while lighting it up. Amazing work though!
