The true power is spending your whole childhood not knowing you're autistic so people just think you're a dick but you don't know you're pissing them off.
Being truly authentic is like a superpower. I highly recommend experimenting and exploring trying to be authentic. The results might surprise you. People generally pick up on when people are being a bit fake and don't like that even though they might not actually be able to put their finger on why they sense something is off.
@@Catlily5 yes, and the added benefit being people that don't like you for you is that you can see them for who they are. They aren't bad people, but if they can't handle you as your most authentic self they aren't your people.
... but I made a promise to myself to stop bowing to the pressure to pass as NT. So it's all Green Goblin Mode from here on out, for better or worse XD
@@claiomhdubh Start out slow in being authentic. Like start out in situations that feel like a safer space to be authentic in. Eventually moving towards situations that are more uncomfortable. Growth happens in the spaces where there's discomfort.
By definition, to be autistic, a person must have chronic problems with both verbal and non-verbal communication going back to early childhood that have made socializing successfully difficult. We also must have at least two of the four of: sensory differences (either hyper or hypo, often both in the same person for different senses), rigid routines, SPINs (special interests, which can be any subject we have a deep, persistent interest in), and/or STIMS (stereotyped, repetitive actions we perform to help us stay calm and focused, like handflapping, leg bouncing, or chewing on clothing). At least one of these conditions must be actively disabling the person at the time of diagnosis, and they can’t be better explained by a more global developmental delay. The diagnosis says nothing about IQ, and we can be anywhere from very “slow” to very “fast” in that regard. We do typically have more conditions/disabilities than the bare minimum needed for diagnosis, which can affect our presentation. Even if you don’t really care about this, hopefully others will read it and be educated! 👨🏻🎓

I don't mask much and many people don't like me too much but at least when people do like me I know that they like the real me.
