    I just bought one of these as a used unit. Handy tutorial, thanks! One of the first things I did was to set it to display north up. When you're used to looking at maps, they're always printed with north up so I find it more intuitive to see my movement as if I was driving on the map. It's a personal preference but I think that cartesian people will relate with me on this one.

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  Před 7 měsíci

      Good point, but when you are headed south and you have to make a turn you will be turning right but on the GPS screen you will be turning left. So all your East, and West motions will be reverse on the GPS LCD which could create confusion.

    • @guylavoie1342
      @guylavoie1342 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Not if you picture yourself in the car on the screen, moving on the map. The car will make a right turn, as you will. I know I'm heading south, and thus the car is heading "down". When you're used to looking at any map, you almost always place it with north up. I see the GPS screen as a map.

    I just purchased a "mildly used" Nuvi 2597LMT. Thus it didn't come with an instruction manual. This video was perfect. Few questions; I bought this GPS as i was looking for a motorcycle GPS. What I didn't realize is this is a "car GPS that can be used for a motorcyle". So, is this GPS water resistant (ie: rain)? Also, is there a USB cable that can be used to trickle charge it (not by wiring to the battery, rather it has a USB-A end? Will this still act as an antenna to get traffic?

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  Před 5 lety

      Hi, This unit is not water proof, but you can find waterproof casing for almost any GPS on eBay. Also if you use the USB cable and a battery bank to charge it you will lose the traffic condition capability. Also the cable must a specific cable or else it will put the GPS in PC Sync Mode which is unusable while charging.

    • @dwallner66

      @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Thank you so very much for your quick reply. I understand i will loose the traffic if i don't use the car charger. Darn. Re: the charging, can you guide me as to what "specific cable" is needed? I went onto Garmin website to get an owners manual and it directed me to a manual titled: nüvi® 2407/2408/2507/2508 Series. so, i can't figure out what is needed. thanks again.

    In a round trip elevation change doesn't effect gas mileage.
    You have the same amount of down hill as up hill. I tested this on a Toyota Prius, and after getting low mileage going up hill, the mileage down hill brought the average to the flat land normal.

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  Před 5 lety

      Agreed, but not all cars can take advantage of downhill to charge the battery. In many cars you waste more gas to go up hill and use more gas to go downhill by using lower gears to prevent burning the brake pads.

    What a fantastic video. You are a natural teacher. Many thanks. I have a question though. Are we able to download all the saved places, rearrange them into folders that are grouped by our particular interest and then loaded back into the Garmin? For example, when motorhoming around the country, you may have many beautiful places to mark and share with others, and you would keep those seperate from your local businesses that you rely on when home, or the launch location for your kayak when going fishing etc etc. Much easier to find what you are looking, if this is possible.

      I am sorry I tried to explain it as simple as possible, but you are right these are really complicated devices.

    Good grief, just tell us features. I don't care what your preferences are.

      Sorry, I will be more to the point in my future videos. Thanks for pointing it out.

    This room looks terrible, are you a hoarder?

      No I am not a hoarder, this is my workshop and I don't live like this LOL. The workshop gets cleaned nearly every day but gets cluttered the next day. I work on may different type of electronics in a very small space so I have to get a bigger workshop. I do appreciate your concern about me and thanks for your feedback.

    You should've learned more about Settings before making this tutorial.

      Thank you for pointing that out, I do try my best to be fully informed before making a video, but I agree, knowledge is a vast sea out of which I only know a drop. Could you kindly point out to me where did I miss up so I can be a better teacher in the future. No rush you may reply at your convenience. Thanks again for your time
