You just discovered one of the biggest bands there ever was. They were MEGA famous all over the world for years and years and years. They have tons of fantastic songs and I wouldn't be surprised if you've heard 1-2 of them before. They had such a big cultural impact that their fame spawned a musical and a film: both called Mamma Mia.

I’ll just build on your perfect intro. ABBA is a Swedish group. Two couples, every one of them a star before they joined up. Massive hit all through the 70’s around the world. Their relationships deteriorated under enormous fame and, well, they were really young when they met. They walked away from it all in 1981. Then, last year they reunited against all expectations and recorded new music 40 years later. You need to discover them.

ABBA are a Swedish group, both the women's names start with A and both their husbands names start with B, hence ABBA. The husband's played instruments and did backing vocals. They had so many number one hits, the movie Mama Mia is based on their songs, plus, there is a movie/mockumentary about their Australian tour

The group was formed in the early 70's in Sweden - they decided to write songs in English... the name of the group Abba was from the first letters of their first names - Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, Anni-Frid (Frida) ... They were couples at the time they formed - Bjorn and Agnetha were married; Benny and Frida were engaged (they married in 1978) ... Benny and Bjorn were friends from the music scene in Sweden, and they wrote Abba's songs together. Agnetha (the blonde) and Frida (the brunette) had very complimentary voices that harmonized perfectly. Bjorn would also sing certain Abba songs. Abba became global superstars in 1976 when the single 'Dancing queen' went #1 all over the world.
Sadly, fame & fortune would also cause their breakups... Bjorn and Agnetha split up in 1978, just after Benny & Frida officially married... Benny split from Frida in 1980... Abba stopped touring after 1979... they stopped making record after 1983 and ended.
However, Abba's catalog of music sold millions in the 90's and beyond... Recently, the 4 members recorded a new album 'Voyage' in 2021 which went into the charts worldwide... Abba wanted to make 1 last record together that came after 40 years.

ABBA is a band who were initially active from 1972-1982. The Name comes from the 4 members initials. They were 2 married couples but both marriages ended in divorce in the early 80’s. They have sold over 400 million albums worldwide. Their music is used in the musical Mamma Mia and the 2 films Mamma Mia ! and Mamma Mia Here we go again. They were approached a few years ago to put on new concerts using digital versions of themselves as they were on the 70’s and as a result of this they decided to record a couple of new songs to be performed as well as their older hits. They enjoyed recording them so much that they decided to do a new album called Voyage which was released on 5th Nov 2021 almost 40 years after their last Album The Visitors. I suggest you listen to the Greatest Hits Album entitled ABBA GOLD, but also listen to their Album songs because they contain many a hidden gem.

ABBA started 1972. The two couples are not married any longer but still dear friends. Björn (Bjoern) and Agnetha (Ang-neta), have two children together Linda and Christian and grandchildren so they meet now and then. Now this latest production VOYAGE was made in 5 weeks of hard work 8 hours aday as Björn and Benny told. They were all surprised of how easy everything was like they left the studio last week and not 1982. Since they are very talented and intelligent people they succeded with an album. I've listened to these people since the 60-ies. I'm in the same age as Benny. Björn is born 1945 and oldest and Frida is born later same year. Benny is born 1946 and Agnetha 1950. Björn was in The Hootenanny Singers in the 1960-ies and Benny in The Hep Stars. The girls were vocalists in different dancebands. Anni-Frid started as a 14-year old vocalist mostly singing jazz in the beginning. Agneta was in a danceband, but has produced some recordings as soloartist too, writing both notes and lyrics.

Despite the break up and silence the band held for years, they never stopped being friends, and just this year they have hooked up again to make a new album and do motion capture for a new live digital show, as the member getting a bit too on to keep traveling live like they used to. ABBA were superstars of pop music in the 70's (from Sweden). The name is made up of the first letters of the first names of the four band members. (Agnetha, Björn, Benny, Anni-Frid). "Eagle" isn't really a typical ABBA song, but since ABBA have made a wide variety of music, "typical" is also difficult to define. (You've already received a lot of suggestions for further songs). The lyrics of ABBA were always surprisingly deep for pop music, the arrangements perfect. Maybe also interesting for you: ABBA released a new album at the end of last year after a 40-year break. The whole album ("Voyage") is very nice, "I Still Have Faith In You" and "Don't Shut Me Down" are probably the most important songs on this album in terms of their "reunion".

One thing, in my opinion, is that Abba were far superior in their musical abilities than ever the Beatles were...and I'm from Liverpool, UK. Take care and stay safe.

ABBA big, big, big for years and their music has lasted. Loved your reaction, please keep checking them out. May I suggest "Fernando" "Chiquitita (English version)" "Dancing Queen" "SOS". So many to choose from. There are actually 4 in the group, two couples, they wrote and sang the songs. Enjoy getting to know one of the most famous musical groups ever.

The two men were responsible for the music. They added many instruments and would re-record them at a slightly different pitch or speed to achieve a fuller sound. You were quick to pick up on how well the 2 girls voices blended together perfectly. Separately, they were both fantastic, but together it was magical. Put it all together and it became known simply as the sound of ABBA, unique and still unmatched 50 years later.

second best selling band in history, 22 worldhits and 80+ could be hits if they just had put them out as singles. Every song is completely different but their sound is very recognizable. They are a unique phenomenon. This song is less know and this official video version is the short version. especcially the outro is very good in the longer version

I love this song too, a classic masterpiece!
ABBA has atleast 50 really great songs to choose by, many masterpieces.
Quiet famous calm song from ABBA are ”Chiquitita”, ”Fernando”, ”Knowing Me, Knowing You”, ”I have a dream”, ”SOS”, ”One Of Us”, ”Slipping through my fingers”, ”My Love, My Life”, I’ve been waiting for you”, ”The winner takes it all” and ”Thank you for the music”. Then they have other kind of music too like disco, rock and reggae.
Their biggest hits nowadays are by the way ”Dancing Queen”, ”Gimme, Gimme, Gimme”, ”Mamma Mia” and ”Take A Chance On Me”. Their international break through was ”Waterloo” in the year 1974. My personal favorite is the groovy and romantic ”The Name of The Game”. All these songs are masterpieces!!!
Did you know it is only one band ever who has sold better than Abba ever, The Beatles? The ABBA-gold album from 1992, ten years after their breakup, is still top 20 in U.K. (this week number 18) was was the first band to pass 1000 weeks at that chart, soon a year ago.

In their day, the “in-crowd” hated ABBA because they were too commercial which is nonsense. Two amazing singers and two very talented composers/musicians. The songs were masterpieces with beautiful harmonies. Any song by them is well worth listening to.

ABBA are a Swedish group, both the women's names start with A and both their husbands names start with B, hence ABBA.
    Agnetha Fältskog (blonde)
    Anni-Frid Lyngstad (brunette)
    Björn Ulvaeus
    Benny Anderson
You will have to watch more videos to see the men as they are the musicians in the band

You discovered one of the most succesfull and influencal grouwp of history stetting pop standards till today. For excample they had once an owen TV show from Swizerland where a "nice coming up group from US" could also present a song, the Jackson Five with young Michael. They were two couples from Sweden, the men doing exceptional composing and producing an the women doing incredible singing. They were real singers, one had an opera education, who sang it out, not wishpered in the mice like many do today. The had incredible numbers of banger hits and were beside the Beatles the only group who caused a "mainia", the ABBAmania. Something like this never had happened since. Alos unique: they stopped in 1982, split private as each couple and professsionally. And last year after 40(!!) years, now in their 70ies the did a comeback record that really hit it, besides they will start a visual show in London avatars of themselves. The point was that they were never that succesfull in US because US music industry saw them as "in a war" against their industry, so they were kind of ignored there.Madonna personally flew to Stockholm to get the permission from them to use their intro of "Gimme Gimme Gimme" for a song of hers, she got it with the agreement to share the comercial income of the song. Cheer did a complete album with their songs (which i don´t like). It is funny and touching to see a young guy in US today discovering this kind of quality, go on!

ABBA was one of the best bands in the world in the 1970-1980`s They have numerous superhits!!!!! Last year they finally made a "Comeback" after 30!!!!! Years .....And they sounded just as good as always! I am sure you have heard them one way or another before. You just didnt know it was ABBA.
You can , if you want, work your way backwards and start with their newest hit "Dont Shut Me Down" from their last album 2021 "Voyage"
The name ABBA is taken from their first letter in their surnames A = Agnetha (The blond lady), B= Björn (Guitar) , B = Benny (Piano) and A = Annefrid (The dark haired lady)
The group is from Stockholm, Sweden
So please go react to their new hitsingle " Dont Shut Me Down" ...It will be very interesting to hear what you think of their music....After all the group is from the 70-80`s

If you want the best possible entrance to the Abba cosmos, may i recommend their Voulez Vous album? It's loaded with some nasty funk sugarcoated in disco melodies and has the most amazing string arrangements. Don't let the hits fool you - ABBA were an album band. Some of the more obscure stuff like Lovers Live A Little Longer or The King Has Lost His Crown is just sublime. And if i judge you right, they're just your cup of tea.

I did and i subscribed. So glad you have discovered the biggest selling group of all time after the Beatles. They were at their height from 1974 - 1981 and last year realeased an album for the first time in 40 years. This is not a song many react to its not as well known but glad you did as its one of my favorites. Two married couples and the groups name is their initials. The guys wrote all their songs with most lead vocals by the girls. Agnetha the blond was soprano and Anni-frid meze soprano. Try The Winner Takes It All' to hear Agnetha and 'Fernando' to hear Anni-frid but thier harmonies were amazing on many others.

ABBA were a group of 4 people Agnetha (bonde) was married to Bjorn, guitarist, Frida married to Benny, pianist. Both Bjorn & Benny did the lyrics & wrote all their songs. This particular song is not as good as the others they had, yet still good. You should listen to many more of theirs, 'Dancing Queen', 'The Winner takes it all', 'Fernando', 'Chiquitita', 'Knowing me, knowing you', & many more!! xx

I can tell I am getting old when younger folk have never heard of the likes of ABBA :grins:
A bigger group there never was in the pop field and the song-writing was a cut above ... and I'm a Metalhead so it takes a bit for me to praise something from the 'chart' side of the street :)
Here is where it all started, when they appeared on the Eurovision Song Contest ... and oh sweet Lord above it was nearly fifty years ago! - czcams.com/video/3FsVeMz1F5c/video.html
