Monocropped, annual, synthetic-chemical-managed crops on the terraces in the Loess Plateau is problematic. Polycropped, biome-appropriate, alley-cropped, food-producing perennials, trees, shrubs and vines reduce water needs and stabilize soil. They require less inputs and conserve/build quality soil/fertility. Love the efforts in Rwanda, Ethiopia, as well as the Loess Plateau's terracing.
This video is long on vague phrases like "tremendous gains, both in ecological functionality, the robustness and resilience of the systems. But also in improved social and economic conditions." Unfortunately, this video is short on specifics. So remaking gradual inclines into tiered, flat terraces. And planting some trees? Is that about it? Anything else?
The Story From the Loess Plateau to Africa and now the Re-greening the Sinai here is the Link to Sinai Project www.greenthesinai.com We are turning the Sinai into the lush Garden of Eden it used to be, and we need your help. Regenerating an ecosystem of that scale will create a huge amount of benefits for local communities: increasing food, fresh water, jobs, peaceful lives and a sustainable future. But there’s more: we have discovered that a greener and cooler Sinai can bring more moisture to the region, and can even positively influence the larger weather systems that cause extreme weather around the Mediterranean and the Indian Ocean. We envision a holistic, multidimensional, symbiotic approach for ecological regeneration in the Sinai. There is much to study and to do. We have identified five main steps for development: We are a widespread group of international engineers and scientists. For the past three years, we are working on a restoration project that has the potential to change the future of the Earth and human civilization.
Fantastic, this should be disseminated worldwide. (I just have one quibble, we don't get any of his journey to the Sinai, so its title is a bit misleading.)
Exactly. They need biome-apropriate, food-producing, alley-cropped trees, perennials, shrubs and vines. Let livestock manage weeds, culls, crop residues, pests and fertility. You then use even less water, less synthetic chemicals, gain efficiencies in energy usage, inputs, etc.
Why are these people so boring and passionless? Where is the passion and vitality? I just see a bunch of overly serious extremely boring bla people. This is the real reason our earth is dried up. People don't care, they lack passion, they're completely disconnected from their true child selves. It boggles my mid how different adults are from kids. What the heck happens to people that makes them so robotic and zombie like. A world run by kids minds would be amazing.
I can tell you they are absolutely thrilled on the inside, but to actually complete the task and get the job done, you need to learn to keep your emotions under check a bit. Adults are just as excited as kids, but they've learned to stretch it over a longer time period of years and decades instead of being hyped up for one day and getting soon disinterested. It is how you get the job done in life...
Needs more views, especially at this time.
Clear perspective, clear message. Bravo, John!
Meanwhile, I'm still dealing with mistresses fighting over an abusive man...

Thank you for this upload - and for your ongoing work John!

How can I become involved?

No monoculture please!
