This is an old Russian tradition. they did this with thousands of German and Nazi troops during world war 2, however i don't think they will do that to Ukranian troops as they see them more as victims of a coupe dtar of outside international forces and not the aggresive cruel enslavers that the Germans were.
But however, Ukraine flag will not be received that mercy. One other tradition of Russia is drag upside down the enemy flag in Red Square as humilation. In Crimea war under Peter The Great the Turkey's flag be dragged like this, same for Northern war, then on WW2 all Nazi flag be dragged and burned in front of Lenin's mausoleum.
