- We asked Franklin exhibition curators and experts to tell us about their favourite items from the Death In The Ice exhibition.
Karen Ryan of Parks Canada tells us about her favourite object; a rusty tin can which holds a tragic story of family loss.
The tin was recovered from the site of John Franklin's expedition to the Arctic. The holes in it are probably from a polar bear. Despite being beaten, frozen and soaked, its contents were recovered and some of the notes are still legible, revealing an interesting story linking a Franklin expedition crewman with Greenwich.
This item among with many others are on display in the Death In The Ice exhibition at London's National Maritime Museum.
This world-first exhibition is home to objects from the recently discovered wreck of the HMS Erebus together with other artefacts and curiosities, many on display to the public for the first time.
It aims to uncover the mysterious fate of Sir John Franklin and his crew. Can the latest discoveries shed light on one of history's most enduring mysteries?

goddam, I wish I could travel to Canada. This expedition mistery has been always something so interesting to me.
warmecanic even if you did it would take years just to be allowed to walk around the arctic
with climate change, perhaps it will be not longer needed
There are cruises going to these islands now, but they're outrageously expensive.
LucilleB Which cruises? Which names so that I can search it up
I just listen to Northwest Passage by satn Rogers and dream..
Just goes to show you how this world can be. They might’ve made if they tried to live like the Inuits. But lack of communication got them killed imo but the lead poisoning didn’t help nor did the pneumonia.
Nor the arrogance.
they would not have survived if they lived like the Inuits. there were to many of them. later expeditions that did this also went with fewer people. Inuit bands were small and thus can live off the land
King Conker seems to know exactly what happened and why the men died, OR, HE'S A BIT OF A TWAT!!
@@iansmith8263 or maybe you just a puss.
The show is not what actually happened we have little clue on what the main factor was or if there was even a main factor illuminated to their deaths
What are you hinding at the north pole , as no polar bear would leave small bite marks it would have crushed the tin
