Nice set up. I also found that merino gear does not wear well. but this year I bought some smart wool, merino blended with synthetics. These have the benefit of wool, but are harder wearing.
I carry my passport in a small ziploc bag when I trave. I also carry photocopies of my important documents in a different pannier/bag to my original docs.
