  • Get in! It's that time of year again when I can head back out kayak fishing and get amongst the fish. The pollack are still a little way off but the cod are here!
    Seeing a brilliant forecast, I took a cheeky afternoon off and headed out to a new area to try a lure fishing technique that has proven succesfull from the shore but untried kayak fishing. I had a major issue out on the water but at least the new lures worked!

    Great video mate. Good to see you in the warm weather kayak gear. Always makes me chuckle watching folks paddling like a lunatic in a full drysuit. You’re as likely to pass out from heat stroke. You’d be like a boil in a bag chicken. 🤣🤣 Life jacket, vhf radio and common sense. ✅✅✅

    Some nice Codling there bud. A good lesson to the people who are watching, things can go so wrong very quickly at sea. As you had with you, a radio is a must. Mobiles should never be relied on. Glad you got back safe. Interesting session. You just never know!...Tight lines.

      Must admit, I wasn't prepared for that breakage, just happy I was able to rely on past experience/training. You're right about the mobile a radio and I even carry a bilge pump, but a spare paddle will be included in that safety equipment from now on. Thanks and tight lines👍🎣

      Haha, got to ake the most out ofbour available sessions. Leashes are a bit of conundrum, I don't really like them, since they tangle you up if you tip, but they do save you from losing tackle. Either way, I'll definitely be carrying a spare split paddle from now one. Tight lines👍🎣

    I broke an aluminium paddle in half whilst rescuing 3 school children out of a kayak group in the surf I had to palm the broken end to get to them quickly. All were saved but got a bloody hand 😁. I was just waiting for the goon stroke when you broke yours. No gooning from u a man who knows. Great vid. Painful as it is you get to buy a new paddle bet u had those for a few years 👍👍👍👍

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  Před 2 lety

      A bloody hand seems like a small price to pay considering the situation you were in, good going!. No gooning for me, gunnels are too low and having no top handle meant it was standard J stroke for me😂 aye that paddle was at least 10 years old so good excuse for a new one. Tight lines👍🎣

    Great watch that although a little squeaky bum with the paddle! It's clear you know your stuff and had radio etc. I had a scary experience on my kayak just a moulded number. I was totally at the mercy of the tide one of the biggest of the year nearly 10 meters! Ended up in a race and going backwards! Got in safely eventually. Opened my eyes being an experienced surfer and very fit!
    Loved a couple of those claw takes thing it was the 2nd one pulling the rod straight over the side quality

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  Před 2 lety +1

      It's easy to get caught out by a strong tide, glad you got back OK. Yeah, some of those takes were savage, I reckon there was probably a bit of competition down there given what the sounder looked like.

    You’re having a nightmare on the yak of late, first rods now paddles. They always say bad things come in 3….best make a prayer to the fish gods!
    In between Seahouses and around the Farnes I believe, are some of the strongest currents and rips on the coast. Hard work slogging against the tide, but good for the fishing. Even in the height of summer, it’s almost always quiet off there. Good to see the codling back. I did see a load of birds working the other day, bodes well for the summer. Cheers

    Eyup Nathan. It wouldn't be Slippy without the need for some cheerfulness in adversity. Nice turn around there fella. I had beautiful Wrasse and average Pollock in NW this weekend on a small Sluggo and cheb. Parked up and spotted a rod in the car park and wondered if you'd been there 🙂then noticed it was a dodgy old Shakespeare item and so not yours. This afternoon I found myself in the midst of a family of five Ravens who were happy to divest me of my steamed cockle snacks that I'd foraged the other day. It turns out there actually was a nest near my (possible?) new mark and the chicks have now fledged successfully.🙂🙂 I'll sithi after, Dave.

      @SlippyLimpets  Před 2 lety

      Could well be right about the seal but like i said in the vid, that sort of shoal seem to be there one minute and gone the next. You can sometimes track them down again but not with one paddle! I acquired that paddle 2nd hand about 10 years ago, so who knows what a tough life it's had before I got a hold of it but you could be right there, and definitely a split paddle stored in the hull from now on.
