Lyrics:
I remember every little thing
As if it happened only yesterday
Parking by the lake
And there was not another car in sight
And I never had a girl
Looking any better than you did
And all the kids at school
They were wishing they were me that night
And now our bodies are, oh, so close and tight
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
C'mon, hold on tight
C'mon, hold on tight
Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night
I can see paradise by the dashboard light

Why this isn't considered one of greatest rock songs of all time, and why Meatloaf isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, are beyond me. What a performance!
Oh dear. He isn't ? That's a travesty.
Just another example of why the Hall is a joke. Meatloaf is a rock legend!

Don't forget Ellen. She was magnificent in this.

My wife was the lead singer of a lounge band in the '80s. Several times late in the evening, my wife and myself would cover this. While she had the voice of an angel and I admit I not the best singer but when on that little stage there was no one better in the world. Unfortunately she was taken away from me in an auto accident. Every time I hear this I can feel her right beside with a wide smile and her eyes beaming. God knows I miss her. RIP LeAnna I still love you and miss you every day of life

Sorry to hear that. As a musician, I know there's few things in the world that are better than playing a song with your band and just being in total sync throughout the emotion of the song. Nothing quite like it, everyone playing their role to complete the piece.

good on you man, I am old and in the way...this song...brings back so many memories - good, bad and REALLY weird (first time I heard it, 1988 at Boston College, my friends were playing their new favorite game - $hitt!ing for distance)...
Story telling at it's finest. No autotune, no electronic drums. Just musicians playing and telling the story of teenage coming of age. Awesome on so many levels.
Can understand the words.
Absolutely true! The memories this brings back of my youth and the crazy, fun I had. I'm a 62 yr old grandma (proud) when I do play music that I grew up with I play it loud and proud! This is what I get "Mom! It's too loud" my response is now you know how I feel when you play your "rap" and the walls and pictures are vibrating. ❤😂❤😂 Thanks Meatloaf for an awesome song!!
Yep, how we lost our virginity and if you were unfortunate enough to get married how you feel right now. Most likely if you haven't killed each other haha
Try ignoring the music, and just listen to the words. The words are what makes this a great song.

Couldn't help thinking as I watched this video: this was the pre-boob job era. refreshing.
The voice was Ellen Foley, Karla lip synced it.

She also lip synced Bat out of Hell and right after that left the tour to go on to theater with Andrew Lloyd Webber in the '80s.@@rambleon3698
@@rambleon3698@jameslong7630 is correct. On the Bat Out Of Hell album, Ellen Foley sings all of the female duets, but due to circumstances she didn’t wannna go on tour w/ Meat and so on tour, Karla sings live backup, but lip syncs Ellen’s parts. In BOOH 2 Back in to Hell the female on track Anything For Love was a woman named Ms Loud. In the video, it’s a model again lip synching again. Child of the 70’s, I have memories of listening to BOOH as far back as literally age 3. Love his music! God bless ❤

Beautiful Words! ❤
I absolutely love this song the build up the performance and Meat makes me laugh out loud at end. Love it xx
This song reminds me of a music theory seminar on classical music that I attended in college. The prof talked about how in symphonic music the composer will introduce a theme (like "Will you love me forever") and expand on it, then introduce a counter theme and expand that one (like "Let me sleep on it"), and then next blend the two musical themes into a new complex movement. Finally the symphony will bring out a synthesis of the two in the final movement (as with "Praying for the end of time"), usually harkening back to the introductory movement ("Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife") to complete the circle.
This song really is perfect in every sense of the word. Not to mention how tone perfect and precisely executed the music and background vocals were. Jim Steinman deserves to stand next to Mozart in history for this and Bat Out of Hell.
He taught us the consequences of hasty choices made in the heat of the moment. Thank you Meatloaf. You will be missed.
I watched this video just 3 nights ago and marveled at the choreography and the intensity. Amazing Performance! We are all getting older and losing our icons one by one. God Bless Meatloaf!
It sucks so bad
Proper use of the word intensity. Difines his music.
I was just thinking that. 77-80. Prom, Homecoming songs. Great memories. I remember him on Trumps show. I forgot the name.
@@christinefalsetto62 Trump, as in the former President? That would be “The Apprentice.”
We’ve lost so many icons in such a short time: Betty White, Ronnie Spector, Sydney Portier, Bob Saget, and now Meat Loaf.
The last 1 1/2 minutes of this song is just awesome, from 6:58 to the end. The VERY BEST of this fantastic song! It always makes me laugh! R.i.P Meatloaf!❤
More kids should see this. It's a genius interpretation of a common adolescent situation.
There is no other song than THIS ONE that's more imprinted on my soul. This song. This MASTERPIECE 🦇✨

This was not only great music, but pure performance art. Props to Ellen Foley for her vocals, as well as Karla DeVito for this performance onstage. Meat will be remembered for a long, long time for all the great music.
I heard this several times that Ellen Foley is singing while Karla DeVito is so superb on stage - this make be sure, but for me is this unbelievable.
@@vb917 Yep, Karla is lip syncing to Ellens vocals for the video. Ellen didn't want to go on tour even though she did vocals on many of the songs on Bat Out of Hell.

Thank you for the names.
Both women are very, very good. This is absolutely performance art.
Wow they really acted that whole thing out on stage while singing. Todays bands would never go this far
GREAT LYRICS!!!!
Let Me Sleep on It Lyrics
Boy:
I remember every little thing. As if it happened only yesterday. Parking by the lake
And there was not another car in sight. And I never had a girl looking any better than you did. And all the kids at school. They were wishing they were me that night
And now our bodies are oh so close and tight. It never felt so good, it never felt so right. And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife. And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife. C'mon! Hold on tight! C'mon! Hold on tight!
Though it's cold and lonely in the deep dark night. I can see paradise by the dashboard light
Girl:
Ain't no doubt about it. We were doubly blessed. Cause we were barely seventeen. And we were barely dressed
Ain't no doubt about it. Baby got to go and shout it. Ain't no doubt about it
We were doubly blessed
Boy:
Cause we were barely seventeen And we were barely dressed Baby doncha hear my heart You got it drowning out the radio I've been waiting so long For you to come along and have some fun And I gotta let ya know No you're never gonna regret it
So open up your eyes I got a big surprise It'll feel all right Well I wanna make your motor run And now our bodies are oh so close and tight It never felt so good, it never felt so right And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
C'mon! Hold on tight! C'mon! Hold on tight!
Though it's cold and lonley in the deep dark night I can see paradise by the dashboard light Paradise by the dashboard light You got to do what you can
And let Mother Nature do the rest Ain't no doubt about it We were doubly blessed
Cause we were barely seventeen And we were barely-- We're gonna go all the way tonight We're gonna go allt he way An tonight's the night...
Radio Broadcast:
Ok, here we go, we got a real pressure cooker going here, two down, nobody on, no score, bottom of the ninth, there's the wind-up and there it is, a line shot up the middle, look at him go. This boy can really fly! He's rounding first and really turning it on now, he's not letting up at all, he's gonna try for second; the ball is bobbled out in center, and here comes the throw, and what a throw!
He's gonna slide in head first, here he comes, he's out! No, wait, safe--safe at second base, this kid really makes things happen out there
Batter steps up to the plate, here's the pitch-- he's going, and what a jump he's got, he's trying for third, here's the throw, it's in the dirt-- safe at third! Holy cow, stolen base! He's taking a pretty big lead out there, almost daring him to try and pick him off. The pitcher glance over, winds up, and it's bunted, bunted
Down the third base line, the suicide squeeze in on! Here he comes, squeeze play, it's gonna be close, here's the throw, there's the play at the plate, holy cow, I think he's gonna make it!
Girl:
Stop right there! I gotta know right now! Before we go any further! Do you love me? Will you love me forever? Do you need me? Will you never leave me? Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life? Will you take me away and will you make me your wife? Do you love me!? Will you love me forever!? Do you need me!? Will you never leave me!? Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life!? Will you take me away and will you make me your wife!?
I gotta know right now Before we go any further Do you love me!!!?
Will you love me forever!!!?
Boy:
Let me sleep on it Baby, baby let me sleep on it Let me sleep on it I'll give you my answer in the morning Let me sleep on it Baby, baby let me sleep on it
Let me sleep on it I'll give you my answer in the morning
Let me sleep on it Baby, baby let me sleep on it Let me sleep on it
I'll give you my answer in the morning

And I'll give you my answer in the morning Let me sleep on it!!!

Will you love me forever?
Boy:

Will you love me forever!!!
Praying for the End of Time
Boy:
I couldn't take it any longer Lord I was crazed And when the feeling came upon me Like a tidal wave I started swearing to my god and on my mother's grave
That I would love you to the end of time I swore that I would love you to the end of time!
So now I'm praying for the end of time To hurry up and arrive Cause if I gotta spend another minute with you I don't think that I can really survive
I'll never break my promise or forget my vow But God only knows what I can do right now I'm praying for the end of time It's all that I can do Praying for the end of time, so I can end my time with you!!!
Boy:
It was long ago and it was far away and it was so much better than it is today
Girl:
It never felt so good It never felt so right And we were glowing like A metal on the edge of a knife
No one else has ever glowed like the metal on the edge of a knife
One of the best songs and performances of all time. RIP Meatloaf. Thanks
In the late 80's, my friends and I had a party. We lined up, boys on one side and girls on the other and sang this song. It was so much fun! If it happened now, it would be immortalized on social media, but that night only exists now in my mind and the minds of anyone else who was sober enough to remember it.
Decades after it was released, it’s still a pleasure to watch and listen to. It never gets old.
Totally agree!! Haven't listened to this in ages. So glad I decided to listen.

Just heard Meat Loaf passed away. So sad. Brings back so many memories. He was one of the most theatrical and talented singers ever. So original. SOAR HIGH MEAT.
He’s been waiting on this day to arrive
This was shown on TV here in the UK back in the late 70's or early 80's. I thought the music and composition was excellent, but the actual performance was absolutely superb, it blew me away then, and still did just now. The way they interacted and were singing different lyrics to each other was unbelievable.
2023 and still a great song and band that travels down the generation line!
RIP Jim Steinman, the composer/lyricist of the greatest Rock and Roll song of all time.

Are you aware of the existence of things not 90 fucking years old?
I remember when this song came out. An immediate classic! RIP Meatloaf.
RIP LOAF_ the world is worse off for your absence. Grateful I got to see you Live once-hell of a performer...
I'm envious you got to see him live!
I bet many of us experienced almost the same process one night in our car near our darling.... those were the good old days.... this song makes me smile every time...
Back seat of the car at drive ins and out in the country... I accidently lied to so many gurls.
I genuinely feel bad for every & anyone who didn't get to experience the pure joy when this masterpiece came out. The only experience comparable, for me, is when Bohemian Rhapsody was released. It's completely different than 'hearing it for the first time'. There was nothing like these songs out there then.
I had the pleasure of seeing Meat in concert in 1999. He was getting up there, sure, but he still put on a great show!
And now, 24 years later, I'm going to see Queen + Adam Lambert - again in Chicago - on Halloween. And oh, how I'm looking forward to it!
Sitting at work listening to paradise by the dashboard light and crying is not how I expect to end my day.
I feel that :(
