- @GameChangerShorts recently came out with a trombone segment that has left the trombone community flabbergasted. So many things went wrong in this I had no choice but to make a video about it.
Twosetviolin and the LingLing40hours community, please help me see some trombone justice in the world. The planet deserves more clarity on the trombone and how it is meant to be played. Tuba players, Trumpet players, Viola Players, Harp players, you guys will be the most help. Clarinet folk, stay at home, you will only get in the way. Bassoon, please come with. French horn, when you're done gossiping about everybody you may come and join the fray. Cellos, stay at home and practice your Bach cello suites like a good student. Violins, come to me when you can play Don Juan at performance tempo...

For clarity, this is not a show about trombones. Game Changer is weird, but to summarize, each episode has a different gimmick. In this episode, you scored points by correctly making the desired noise, usually with their voices. This was a bonus round were they were given trombones. None of them have every played trombone before.
I think he knows but hes just pointing out how painful it is to watch. As someone who plays trombone, this is very painful to watch from them not holding their trombones correctly to them in the wrong slide positions but you have a good point. Its never a good thing to judge or criticize someone but this was painful 🥲
"Trombone Game Show Segment" means a segment about trombones in a game show, but English is ambiguous and I can see why you understood it as a segment in a game show about trombones. He probably meant the first thing.
I'm sure he is very aware that this show isn't just about trombones. This video was to show how wrong they were using the trombones at the moment. I'm probably very confident in saying all those 3 guys will probably not play a trombone professionally in their lives.

Right? Not sure where people (mostly experienced musicians) get off on ridiculing this.
Firstly, if they truly believe this is embarrassing or they feel pain from the mistakes shown as complete newbies, then they are admitting to their own expectation for this to be an incredibly easy thing to pick up for the first time and be passable or good at, nullifying any sort of practice or hard work they have put into learning it themselves. Forget hiring a professional... even professionals seem to believe literally anybody can just pick up a trombone and play competently! I'll just do it myself, rather than pay a professional!! 😐
Second, I guarantee they were just as clumsy with the instrument in the first 5 minutes they ever touched one, too. To anyone laughing derisively or ridiculing, learn some basic humility and empathy, you absolute unit of a mook.
Zach did not "break" the trombone. Phones use a friction fit between the bell and slide sections, there is no bell lock. He just moved the two parts in different directions, and the friction fit separated.

I was going to comment about that too. I have a Pbone for marching band and it separates pretty easily. (Don't judge, I'm old with arthritis, and my Olds gets heavy after 3 miles, plus I don't like to bring a 70 year old trombone to a parade. I save it for the orchestra and gigs where I get paid, not playing Lady Gaga pep songs at a city parade.)

Fair, but then give them a plastic tube to blow in. Trombones are a musical instrument, and should be treated as such, not toys to be played with.
@@lih3391 It looks like those are plastic trombones (see the coloration and texture). These are either 1) toys or 2) cheap, beginner instruments. They're absolutely allowed to use their instruments as they please, especially since it isn't some luxe, orchestral-quality item. Sure, maybe don't give an expensive instrument to your 5 year old to chew on, but this isn't even close to that. I'm not sure why they "should" be treated in any particular way.

@@lih3391 literally they gave them a plastic tube. That's all those trombones are except with a mouthpiece and a bell. Infact basically EVERY blown instrument is a tube with a resonator whether it's a reed or a mouthpiece or even a resonating membrane like a kazoo lol

Thats part of why people are mad. Trombones, even plastic ones are musical intruments, not toys. Its like buying a laptop for the sole purpose of using it to add one digit numbers.

I can feel your pain times three. I remember going to a music shop where you would think people know about instruments and the guy working there hands me a trombone with the slide on the wrong side. I had to correct this but the most surprising thing was that he told me that someone else told him that it didn't matter which side the slide went on. Bruh what? You work at a music store yet you seem to barely know anything about instruments.
I know everyone plays right handed. But if it was just a standard tenor trombone with no F attachment it does "work" exactly the same the opposite way. It doesn't functionality change how the trombone works itself if set up left handed whereas with attachment the trigger is in an uncomfortable place to use. The person in the music shop may have mistook some description like this. Slide Hampton famous trombonist played left handed
On this episode of “the employees at these shops are minimum wage employees just like the rest of us and definitely aren’t paid enough to be experts at every last instrument in the entire store.”
They probably know a few but frankly I absolutely cannot fault someone for not knowing everything.

I use to play trombone before I switched to tuba and I had my slide locked so many times and try to play with it locked. I didn’t break my instrument though thankfully.

Despite their appearance, they’re not actually toy trombones. They’re cheap and they’re plastic, and they don’t sound as good as metal trombones (far less fragile, though), but they’re playable instruments, and popular in certain niches like marching bands and education.

I have to sit down with whoever is picking up a trombone for the first time and gently explain to them how to hold the thing because figuring out how to do that is probably the hardest thing you’ll learn when playing the trombone.
