I just watched the 10 regrets video and the swivel seats thing is really making me think twice as I initially didn't want that... but I suppose that can be added later on. @@hikari1811 you must think about safety so imagine if you are parked somewhere and need to leave fast - face your van in direction you can drive off fast and find a van that you can jump quickly into the front seat. Don't mean to scare you but these are things to prepare for early.

I have a notebook actually where I'm compiling all these good ideas and a personal page where I'm keeping links to all the important and helpful websites, videos, etc. I'm super excited to embark on this journey but your advice for making sure to try it out first before jumping fully into is absolutely golden. I can't wait to try it out and I hope I will love it as much as I think I will. I believe that we all have our own reasons and story for doing whatever we wanna do... I suppose what I'm hoping for with vanlife is my personal freedom and independence. I hope that I can achieve it, even if it's just temporarliy.
With that many old VWs doing that many miles, I knew he was going to say they had some breakdowns, but every day. Shoot. I think I would have been on the plane back home with the rest of his friends on trip 1. haha Really though, only having 1 major breakdown in the convoy is probably a success compared to the VW travelers that I've met. :)
The Traveling Together Journal yeah when he told us his stories about breakdowns we started to take our engine apart in order to learn how to fix it ourselves for when we do the overland journeys abroad. It be hard to find assistance out in the Goby Dessert by ourselves we won't be in a convoy of 4. 😅😅
Yeah, Traveling as a solo vehicle means less breakdowns, but when they do happen it can be a big deal. We were fortunate not to have any major mechanical problems on our Central America trip and never got stranded anywhere. It was on our mind though when we went remote by ourselves. Good for you for taking the time to learn more about your vehicle.
BAM BIGBOY some do change engines to Subaru but Terence says for their journey is not advisable because I'm Europe spare parts for Vw is easier to get than Subaru.
