  • Land and Water Dredging the Rivers Tone and Parrett on the Somerset Levels following the floods of 2014. The video shows the various methods employed by Land and Water to dredge the Rivers and their specialist equipment used - which included amphibious excavators, excavators on pontoons, long reach excavators, tugs, barges and disposal of the dredging’s with tractors and agricultural trailers.
This was an extremely sensitive project that was successfully completed on time and within budget.

If they take all the silt out of the rivers theirs more room for water,if they put the silt on the top of the bank theirs even more room for water and less flooding, so this should be taking place all over the UK .

Exactly . Woop woop . Someone who thinks and says the same as me .
Unfortunately yet again too many brainwashed idiots who think they know better and can’t see that . Probably because they’ve never lifted a spade , worked an excavator, driven tractors in mud and done anything to redirect a water course .

The arteries of the country need maintenance and looked after , just like the vessels in your body otherwise they clog up and then you’re in trouble !!!
Bring every machine in the country to dredge from sea ti source .
The mud excavated from the rivers is very fertile indeed so adds even more benefits ti spreading it on nearby land .

Would have been nice to see the old 22 R-B's doing it - But since I've got the old girl that last worked on the River Parret, and I've owned her for the last 14 years, I guess that there hasn't been much dredging done until now !Long reach is very elegant, but dragline is much more fuel efficient - why move all that front end equipment, when all you need to move is the bucket ? !

Eva Rojas Good morning to you !
Thank you for your interest, but I’m retired now, and probably forgotten much of what I used to know . . . .
Land and Water, who were the company doing this work, would, I’m sure, be pleased to advise you on specific jobs . . . .
      Kind regards,
      Steve.

One reason for the flooding is because they keep putting down tarmac in Taunton Yeovil and all the other small towns in the area and it will get worse the water can't soak away anymore it will get worse and worse and the levels will have to be abandoned.

How big a kite did you have to use for the aerial camera work? Did you use a cordless drill to reel it in so fast. I used a big "Happy Birthday" balloon years ago for a camera, but it was so slow and cars kept honking and waving at me.

I like prefer to use pigeons but they don't always return the camera. It can be months before you see it again, if you're lucky. So we started to use sim cards and upload that footage to the cloud just in case the pigeons don't return. 😂

The spoils need to be disposed of freely.
When the environment agency dredge rivers they cannot spend millions sending it off in lorries so snowflakes and cannabis thinking folk wouldn't come to harm if they walked onto the spoils.
Humans have grown up with learning that traffic and trains kill so why can't they be told not to walk on spoils dredged up from rivers and canals can kill.

Appalling and short sighted measure. Dredging does little to help flooding and is hugely damaging to the environment.

These are not rivers, just glorified drainage ditches with little ecological value and probably a degraded ecosystem.
