- This week on The Game Haus we are playing Great Western Trail 2nd Ed, and we are playing with the Rails to the North Expansion. This expansion is really quite good, and it's one of those that we just won't ever play without.

Just bought the RTTN expansion and love it. For the "place a branchlet" action, when it is on your building 13 or as a bonus on a station master tile, I do not think you need to discard a 2 cow and pay $1. That cost is only for the auxiliary actions off your player boards.
This is an example of a GREAT playthrough! Thanks for teaching us how to play!!
You got it!
Love this game, can't wait until I can pick up this expansion!
for the end game station scoring, printed employees also count at one point each. So it should have been 6 points for those employees. (Yes, it’s a great tile with the worst instant benefit to offset.)
I really liked this game, you guys did a great job!
Thank you!
Thanks for this Video, i love Great Western Trail🤩 greetings from Bavaria 😊
Greetings!
32:00 - you can walk across spaces where you would need to pay money, even if you don’t have any. In this case you simply don’t pay
This is true we forgot and missed out!
It's my number 2 game of all times !
This is a neat game! Great video, guys! We never got the original version, but this one looks dope. - G
It is!
One of my all-time favorite games, although I have yet to play with the Rails to the North expansion! Great playthrough, guys! 🤠 (Y’all gonna be in Vegas next week, right?)
Yup yup we are Vegas bound!
@@TheBrothersMurph Awesome!! 🎰 Hope I get to see both of you there!!
Can anyone tell me if everything in GWT with the expansion fits into the expansion box if we ditch the insert?
Yup we have both in one box
When you were saying Milwaukee I had that clip of Alice in my head, so you are double awesome (you were awesome just for being you) for putting it in the video, thank you guys for always being so entertaining.
You got it! Thank you for the wonderful comment!
Has RTTN 2nd Ed been released US-wide?
I see a few copies floating around on eBay but not really anywhere else... Maybe my local game shop would know?
It was available at Gen Con, and if it's not in stores, it should be soon we believe!
Do you suggest expansion to a solo player? Thanks
Great video!! Congratulations!
Just one question, at 1:06 he put a white border disk in the black border spot, is it allowed? 🤔
Sorry we can’t find the part you are referencing but no that wouldn’t be allowed so we may have just goofed
Have you guys seen the Patrick Swayze Disney VHS Tall Tale? Such a nostalgic 90s movie. That movie was my childhood. Patrick Swayze, Mining towns, Tornados, Trains, it's great.
We haven’t but you better believe we’re looking it up!!
Great Video. Having the main board sideways was awkward to look at whenever you did a zoomed out shot. Looked great wen zoomed in though.
Yeah, when adding the rails to the north expansion board, it makes the main board super tall and so we had to put it sideways to make everything fit nicely on camera. Oh the woes of trying to film board games
Love this game, but I’ve only ever played the 1sr edition. Is the 2nd edition worth it?
I’d say if you own the 1st edition and enjoy it you’re probably good. They made some minor balances to things but the game is virtually the same. If you don’t own it and are curious for sure hop right into the 2nd edition
@@TheBrothersMurph Thanks! I own 1st, so I’ll stick with that. 👍🏻
Noice
Well dang it. Guess I’m going to have to get Rails of the North… that said, I don’t think I’m going to get EVERY GWT game coming out. I’ll certainly try them all though. Gunna rustle me some of them Kiwi Sheep I’ve been hearing about
Heck yeah can’t wait for New Zealand!
GWT is in my Top 10. Absolutely love this game but I’m not sure that I need a trilogy’s worth. I’ll wait to see what the new games bring to the table.
Stay tuned we got our GWT Argentina video this upcoming Monday!
OK so I have the original version, that I love, and the Rails expansion, that I've never gotten to the table. Want to, just haven't. Question is: do I get the new version or not? If I want the other versions coming soon is that a factor?
The other versions wont have any bearing on your version so you should be good to go there. I'd say you're probably fine with the version you have already as there aren't hardly any changes to the game minus some minor balancing of things and adding trade tokens to the base game and the new type of cow and solo mode. If you're enjoying GWT already, you're probably set. If you're a collector and want all of the new sets and the consistent art on the covers you could consider it then maybe?
@@TheBrothersMurph thank you! I appreciate your insight.
I'm a little confused about your comment that the expansion makes the train movement more interesting since the expansion board has nothing to do with your train. There are just more railways in the artwork.
However I agree that the expansion is great and in the 2nd edition the branchlet action got rebalanced so the other auxiliary actions are still viable.
We always say the train is more interesting because of the thematic tie in to the railways but yes we mean that the deliveries you make allow you to explore the various parts of the expansion board
Did the rules change in this version? At the 32 min mark Mike said he could not pass the hazard if he did not have the money. In the original version if you did not have the money you just did not pay and could still continue on.
I see you recognized the error at the 1:02 mark. 🙂
Hehe yeah I just made a boo boo
This video is turnt, like 90 degrees. Think I did that right. Love the content and natural humor and I’m super duper turnt for your GWT comparison video (so I can turn my wallet loose, turnt to turn it loose… ok I’m done now).
TURRRRRNT
This game has been on my radar for sooo long. Still is. I just really dislike the first edition look. I'm still waiting for my flgs to get some second edition. But they still have lots of copies of the first edition so it might take a while XD. On a side note, have I already told you guys that you were making the most interesting playthrough? beautifully edited, snapy, fun, dynamic and entertaining? A game Haus video is always a sunshine in my week!
You can give it a shot on BGA :)
Very strange, as the 1st edition looks better by far imo, apart from the cover.
@@fingolfinfinwe Different strokes for different folks!
Ayyye thanks for the kind words sir! And hopefully 2nd ed makes its way to your stores soon!
@@fingolfinfinwe True 1st edition >>>>> 2nd. The cows, building and the path looks atmospheric in comparison to 2nd edition which looks like a game for child. Only cover of 1st edtions is questionable :p
