  • In this video I show y'all how to make easy steamed sticky rice in the bamboo steamer. This classic Asian side dish is easy to make and is delicious with many main dishes. Sticky rice is different than other common rice due to its sticky nature when steamed.
    Shopping List:
    2 cups Asian sweet glutenous white rice
    Water
    Salt and pepper to taste.
    Directions:
    Rinse rice several times until the water runs clear.
    Cover in cold water about 2-3 inches above rice and soak for 24 hours. If in a hurry, cover in hot water and soak 3-4 hours.
    After soaking, pour out the soaking water and place rice in the bamboo steamer basket lined with steamer paper, cheesecloth or parchment paper, which you fold over the rice. Cover with lid.
    Bring about 1 inch water to a full boil in a wok, high-sided skillet or saucepan, then reduce heat to a steady simmer.
    Place steamer in the wok and steam 20-25 minutes until rice is softened and sticky. It's okay if the bottom of the steamer is in about 1/4 inch of the water to prevent scorching.
    When done, remove steamer from wok. Be careful removing the lid due to the steam.
    Season to taste and serve with your main dish.
    Will remain fresh in a sealed container in the fridge for 3-4 days.

    Richard my good friend, we had some last night from a Chinese restaurant as my wife was craving Chinese food. I gotta get one of those bamboo steamers, that was pretty slick pal, looks good. Sometimes I mix Chinese sweet/sour sauce/hot mustard & pour it on the rice, it's good

    Make sure you get the long grain sweet rice. Short grain sweet rice is basically sushi rice, which is still delicious but not the same.

    Thank you so much. I made the glutinous rice in ny rice cooker and it was so mushy. Now i realised my mistake.

    Do you use less or more water per the rice package directions?

    • @RICHARDINTHEKITCHEN
      @RICHARDINTHEKITCHEN  Před rokem

      I usually use a little less. Just enough that the rice is covered. Thanks so much for watching.

    How do you keep sticky rice from sticking to the cheesecloth?

    • @RICHARDINTHEKITCHEN
      @RICHARDINTHEKITCHEN  Před 8 měsíci +2

      The reason it sticks to either a pan or cheese cloth is the starch. You can try add a little more water so it dilutes the starch a bit. I always have minimal sticking as well. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
