  • ALIVE AND KICKING - SIMPLE MINDS - DRUM COVER ON ALESIS STRIKE PRO SE E-DRUMS - NO CLICK
It's been a real pain to play this song because of the poor hi-hat response while playing the 16th notes.
Many hits went lost during the performance.
It's one of the cons of the e-drum, and it's actually one of the most annoying, the hi hat!
But a got a decent track in the end.
    But what an headache...

I completely understand your frustration and anger, the worst purchase of my life was the Alesis DM10X kit with mesh patches and the kit is not a bad product but the module is a real piece of garbage and from what I have been able to find out, the new Strike module It also has many problems but beyond that, good cover of a great song, here goes my thumbs up for you.

Thanks a lot Jordi. I really appreciate your message. In all honesty, I think that the problem here is not even the module. Ok it’s not the best on the market and it has pros and cons, but it does a good job at the end. The problem with this kit is the hihat. At the beginning it works fine as long as you hit the right side of it. Then with the time starts to lose sensibility. I had to send mine back to the reseller as it became impossible to play. The new replacement pad works better than the first one I had. I keep my fingers crossed. Thanks again! Cheers 👍👍👍

Great playing on this track. This is a genuinely tough track to get the groove feeling really tight and you've nailed that for sure. One Q I have though is how did you get those hi hats to respond so well? I have the SE kit, same set up, 3 up 1 down and Im struggling badly with them. Its my only dissappointment with the kit. Any tips on module settings for bow, edge and pedal and what samples you've used. Great job.

Thanks a lot for your message! Really appreciated! Actually at the time i recorded this song i was having troubles with the hi hats response. Many hits would get no sound at all and i was getting frustrated. I hard to send back the hi hats pad and i got a brand new One for free as i was still covered by the guarantee. I think that the issues with the Strike Pro hi hats are mainy two: poor engineering and wrong settimgs. The new pad's response and sensibility are way better than the first pad i had. What exactly Is the problem you are experiencing?

@@bepydrummany thanks for the reply. Pretty much the same issues. Sometimes no hits or sometimes the edge just jumps out way louder than the bow even though the levels are at parity. Also, when marking time with the pedal, sometimes the bow "swishes" when I want a dead "chick" sound or even the edges splash. When watching the display to see what is triggering, I will be consciously playing the edge but the bow triggers and vice versa and seems to be very random. Ive learned what all of the controls and settings do such as sensitivity, threshold, velocity crosstalk etc, dialled it all out so that nothing triggers and began to bring in each layer in one step at a time. Ultimately though, once everything is in, the false or wrong sounds trigger once again. For the moment, I have resorted to no edge sound, but have the same bow sample sound on both the bow and the edge with the edge level just fractionally higher than the bow. Its disappointing to have to do that as I am losing functionality but at least its more playable like that. Still needs work though sadly. I have a DM10 hi hat control pedal on the way to try that and see if it makes a difference and then go to a fixed hi hat. Im willing to try anything. I love the kit and Ive assembled several of my own kits already which are stunning and Im totally happy with. The snare response and sensitivity is now outstanding and feels great and Im happy with as I am with everything else now. One thing I did experience straight out of the box, quite a few of crashes were triggering slightly. I found it was the vibration running through the rack and up the arms, especially when using the tom rim triggers for percussion sounds thus triggering the bows. Sorted that out with crosstalk and threshold. Its really just the hats now.

My solution which has worked for me the last 2 years, is to ditch the hihat stand, and use the pad fixed on a stand with a roland fd9 hihat controller. I like you, I make hundreds of videos and has not let me down. Beause I use 2 hihats(split) I have a matched pair of simmons hihat pads. Lately, Im using the alesis 14 hat pad with the simmons pad on the right. Its a challenge to get both pads to trigger exactely the same with similar velocity, which is why a matched pair is safest...

That's a good idea. I might end up getting two Roland hihat pads. I'm not happy with the response and sensibility of the alesis hihat pad. Thanks for sharing my friend. Cheers! 🙂👍

Great job! Although it appears the kit/module is somewhat limiting, or perhaps it’s the recording. During much of the time you’re playing accurate 16th notes on the hats, especially during the first half, I can see it, but can’t hear it. None the less, you nailed it. Kudos to you!

Thank you very Mark! Yes you are right. I had lots of problems with my hihat lately cause it was missing maybe the 50% of all the hits. So as it was getting worse i decided to send it back for repairing. I was really getting frustrated by it. Anyway I am truly thankful for your comment! Thanks for watching!
