    I have never seen weevils as pests. For some reason. To me they are one of the most adorable insects on this planet. I always feel happy when I find them

      They ARE so cute! My friend and I play this computer game called Grounded and there are little wheevils (along with other bugs) on there. I wanted to learn more about them and found this video. They are truly so precious!

    I had a weevil on my wall. He fell to the ground and broke a leg. I felt bad. I took a saltine and put him on top. I carried him outside to my tomato plants. His name is Todd. He is my son. May he find peace among the red orbs.

    can these weevils have no spots at all? I found a little one in my house and honestly weevils are really cute. I'm trying to identify what type of weevil he is. It's the same shape as these but all black with no spots

    I found one and thought it looked really cute, put it under a glass till the morning. Gave it some water in a bottle lid to drink, a bit of melon some spinach and coriander and I'm going to put it outside soon and can't bring myself to throw out the window. After all the comments about how destructive they are going to move it quite far from the house...

    Hey there!
    Im an insect lover and i have 2 weevils in my pet zoo of insects...
    But im not able to identify their sex
    How could i identify on the basis of physical characters? What living conditions and environment do they need? What do they eat? And in which mode do they reproduce?
    I want to know these things...
    Please help me to let me know this
    I hope you will reply me

      I got two at home ( not at the same time) : John and Submarine . I gave them very small pieces of veggies, green salad, apple etc...They were not in a vivarium but free in a room I use as my writting room. They could easily escape and go outside but they stayed in during months but one day they were gone and I did not find their body so I do nt know what really happened.Two days ago I found one, on the back, playing the dead ( that it was not ;-) but this time I directly put it outside. About the sex you should contact an entomologist expert in these insects. About the reproduction well as you can see in this video, the grubs live in the depth of the soil, eating the roots so you will need to have this environment at least. They have one generation per year and the female does not need to mate for laying her eggs ( I read that on internet ;-)).

      Wow, what a relief to read your comments (it was killing me how everybody in the comment section is hollaring "death to all weevils"). Finally found some ppl with a heart 😅!
      I wish I could help you determine the sex of your weevils, but I don't know either. In one of my videos I keep referring to a weevil (of this species) as a "he", and after uploading it I was wondering why on Earth I didn't try to determine it's gender before making the video and sharing it with the world. I sure hope it wasn't a lady weevil... she'd be quite displeased with me 😂

    *HOW do adult bugs* survive for three years or more? Are they able to freeze/unfreeze during/after winters or they must dig down deep where the earth does not freeze?

    • @elleboman8465
      @elleboman8465 Před 4 lety +4

      Soil generally doesn't freeze very deep at all, mostly because it is so extremely dense compared to the cold air above it, which means that it takes a lot of time for the energy stored in it to escape. Think of putting a big pot of soup outside to cool - if you don't stir it occasionally the center might still be warm hours later even if it's freezing outside.
      Also, rotting organic material not only insulates efficiently but also generates a fair bit of heat. And in most climates where winters are harsh there is usually some snow coverage during the coldest months, which adds even more insulation to keep the soil and undergrowth unfrozen, including most of its tiny inhabitants. :^)

    • @FallNorth
      @FallNorth Před rokem

      Pick the adults off the plants at night (use a torch), they hide during the day then come out in droves at night and seem to love to climb, and... "deal" with them.
      For the larva there are natural sprays that contain nematodes that kill them.
