I love to watch collab perform between boygroup and girlgroup, but not easy to see this kind of collab nowadays. Fans are sensitive to see the collaboration between boygroup and girlgroup. Did everyone forget all the huge scandals and the hate that were sent once dispatch revelaed some real or alleged celebrity couple? The first one coming to mind being jonghyun and shin se kyung... what good did it do that they could perform with girls if they couldn't interact with them in real life? To be honest I don't really see much change except maybe that the idols themselves got mentally stronger (hyuna and edawn for example) to ignore the hate sent their way

This popped up for me because I just started checking 2PM. Damn, this is so good and it’s what is missing in the kpop industry today. Where male and female groups can collab for great performances. Sad thing is crazy fans have ruined it for idols to be able to do things like this. They can barely look at each other without rumors starting.
Yeah, Kpop groups back then used to do shows together, go to each other's houses on variety shows and do collaborations. This started fizzling out after 2010 and by 2018 it was virtually nonexistent. Nowadays it's difficult to interact with idols of the same gender, let alone of the opposite gender. I wish we could go back to the 1st and 2nd gen days when idols proved that men and women can be just friends.
If the past generations k-pop fan-culture & industry was that great, then why the idols from that generations seemed to be suffering from depression and revealed to be having under a lot of mental pressure. Not to forget, many of them who looked happy & cheerful on-camera have either passed away or suffering & struggling thru depression. Also, Not JYP artists, but many got exposed for their bad behaviour and criminal activities. artists that used to get forced to Collab, and do uncomfortable segments on variety shows where they had to kiss, touch random stranger without knowing what kind of person they are. people don't even know what they would have gone through. Also, the shows that entertained people, these musicians were multi-tasking to get more screen-time, exposure for their music and money. They were working their ass off to get paid, not having fun all the time on TV-shows. These days, it's much better where that idols are seen & appreciated more for their music talent than the comedy bonus & other activities, which old generation idols failed or didn't get chance to do so. So they had to sing, act, appear on so many variety shows to promote their music, that didn't even promote their music.
Sasaeng fans literally been able to physically hurt the artists, would physically hurt other fans in fan-wars. They used to give black ocean to the artist they didn't like. Groups would break if they revealed to be dating someone, while fans have normalized dating for idols now a days, and condemn dispatch for exposing their love life as scandal. Many have announced marriage, pregnancy in last few years...and majority of fans are supportive.
And by all the things that I mentioned, I didn't intend to say the everything was bad. I really appreciate and feel pain for the old artists who worked their ass off and stayed consistent and diligent human being.

Back then what worst for these idols were,
1. their company treatment (training, diet/image, salary)
2. toxic fan cultures by some obsessive korean fans
No 1 seems to be better for idols nowadays but No 2 turns worse as that negativity has somehow makes it way into international fandom which makes enjoying kpop more unpleasant as it not only includes obsession but also unhinged & unnecessary fans protective/harassment mode.
You talk about previous generation of bad idols being exposed but now fans & public alike scrutinise them even harder only because of how different social media works. You really think if social media usage were as rampant/influential back then, those bad one aint never got exposed? When just an anonymous rumour about bullying easily gets traction now?
And what makes you so sure idols nowadays are acting even truer to themselves when the importance of fan's input/voices have amplified a tons more than how it was in the previous generations?
Fans behavior was worst before, sure, but it's only among the obsessive few of korean/chinese one. The most international fandom would get involved with was online fanwar (only snsd got their own international anti group that I know of). It never got further than that. But now when korean/chinese fans seem to get better with time, international online fandom has reached the point where any disagreement or critics are met with unstoppable harassment, doxxing, digging past history (which who know if people could change & grow with years).
Group broke up cus of dating scandal? Which one? Taeyeon was literally photographed on date with Xiah junsu in LA, then with leeteuk coming out from nanny car somewhere yet snsd, suju, tvxq remains? Hara photographed with that B2st guy, both groups still stayed intact for years? Yoona-seunggi, Jessica-taecyeon, tiffany-nichkhun, sulli-that rapper guy, krystal-kai, gd-whichever artist, suzy-lee minho etc.
Cant remember any group that disband cus of dating scandal only that they got harassed & smeared by their own crazy fans, antis & public who took advantage of the issue. As a matter of fact sungmin still cant comeback as a group member in suju, so does chen just cus they got married.
The only infamous black ocean back then that I can think of was SNSD & that was only cus SM boygroups fans hated/disliked them for being close with their opparr. People tried to make it about rivalry with WG fandoms but majority of the fans who attended that dream concert were SM boygroups stans. Cus if WG really had that much fan power & pull, what they experienced & their fan contents should be as much as SM fandoms had back then, which I realllllllly didnt see (try to look around in wonderful forum, which now has gotten deserted, at that time in 2007 then compare it with tvxq/suju/soshified fanteam livejournal/forum).
A lot of idols can stay just doing music/dance now because there are so many ONLINE platforms for them to use. 720p came out in SKorea in 2008, which when a lot of other countries had barely transition from using dial up internet to broadband & the only available media for idols to appeal & show themselves at that time were through tv programs. Was it hard on them? Sure but it was only due to media limitations of their time.
Social media that were known at that time, minihomepage/cyworld that was exclusively used in SK, myspace which had dwindled in popularity, friendster not really hitting peak nor bottom, aim/msn/yahoo chat limited to chatting experiences.
Now is the era of streaming/online. That even active & inactive 2nd gen idols aware of & make use of social media to share/interact with their fans.
Point is, everything else for idols or idols with fans get better except for fan experience among/between fans.
@@shookytheelderlybunny4042 cuz the entertainment industry is rough. The people are the product. Takes years before an idol has control over what they can and cannot do. It is rare for any star in any country to be independent and only do what they want and not feel the pressure to be this unrealistic perfect star.
@@simplymess4863 exactly. Social media and international fans and fandoms being allowed to act toxic... sigh. If idols and companies said something, it would calm down. Not stop completely but not be so prevalent. Do like western pop stars and go mia after rebuking them for acting up. Kpop seem so scared that they will not be able to come back if they take a break but look at 2pm. As obsessive and codependent fans are i think idols could get them to behave a LOT better if they actually tried.
