  • Inside of France during the French Revolution, the guillotine would be used to take the heads off the King and Queen, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. It was used to execute thousands during the period of time known as 'The Terror,' but in the centuries after the guillotine was used to execute criminals in France. But the final woman to be executed on the device with the slanted blade was Germaine Leloy-Godefroy who plotted and carried out a horrific murder of her husband.
Germaine Godefroy fell in love with a younger man and she plotted to kill her husband and run off with the man she had an affair with. She would take an axe and would brutally slay her husband and with this she was sentenced to death. But following this she was held inside of Angers Prison to await her execution, and she became the last woman in France who faced the guillotine.

It is now proven that when the head is severed from the body, it is just removed from a blood supply. However, they now know that the brain lives on for around six minutes, even after severing blood supply or heart stops. This means that even as the head is wrapped up and thrown in the basket with the body, the brain still can know what is happening to the head. Imagine the horror, those that had their heads used as footballs felt??? It is said the guillotine was so perfect at killing, it doesn't cause as much trauma as hanging or firing squad does, where people can become immediately unconscious from shock! A severed head can not blink or move its eyelids as was believed.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
      John 3:16-21
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
      Hebrews 11:6

The state executioner (Henri Desfourneaux) became a controversial figure during WW2.
During the Vichy era he executed some political opponents of the regime (Communists) and Resistance members, as well as the few women sentenced to death.
His assistants protested the move away from normal executions of common murderers under civil law - eventually they all resigned.
At the Liberation he was held to account for his wartime actions - and was able to argue that he was carrying out the lawful instructions of the then legal government. Thereafter he resumed his role.
He was plagued by self recrimination for his role under Vichy, turning to alcohol and becoming a virtual recluse, dying in office 1951.

I have to say that as history shows us the judicial system has done an almost about face seeing that murder is often punished with what I personally consider a little more than a slap over the wrists. This is and must be so disrespectful and devaluing of the victims loss of their right to life and the family of the victim left with a lifetime sentence of grieving. This is especially so in the event of the murders of the younger individuals in society as they will never expreience the rights that you and I take for granted and enjoy in the process of growing up and being a productive member of any society.

Don't talk nonsense. photographers were prohibited during public executions. the film and photographs of Weidmann's execution are an exception. the execution was carried out very late, in broad daylight. and it is because of this that we have these images. Second error: the condemned were not attached to the board. they were simply tipped onto it and the latter rolled on rollers until the neck was under the telescope. with Anatole Deibler, between the moment when the condemned man was placed against the board and the blade fell, 5 to 7 seconds passed...

There was no execution chambers in French prisons: instead the guillotine was assembled in a courtyard. Before it was built in front of the prison's gate. And earlier, before 1870, executions took place on a square and the guillotine was assembled on a scaffold.

It is true that scripture says that, but it also says that we are to obey the laws of the land. Laws are made for reasons and consequences are specified because of those laws. Bottom line is, don't do the crime if you can't accept the punishment or consequences.

@@rickmaddox3120 The scripture - for those who believe it - appears quite contradictory when it comes to killing people. Elija slaughters mercilessly 500 men and his action is approved by Yawve who has given his full protection to Cain who murdered his brother. Jesus says "let the one among you who is without sin, cast the first stone" but Paul in Romans 13 1-7 condones the death penalty. Just two examples. Lots of contradictions generally.
