Nigel your videos are 1st class for knowledge and I have googled woodlands near to where I live. I found numerous ancient woodlands not far from where I live and visited one last weekend. I am blown away with the beauty and curse myself for not searching sooner. If at anytime you need a dog sitter for Pebbles give me a shout, such a character!
The quintessential Sunday morning video with coffee. As ever you find yourself immersed while not realising you're learning. Thanks, Nigel for another entertaining and informative video. 👍
That last image was a beauty.
nice one pebbles !!!
Okay, I rarely comment on youtube even though I watch it every day. But you deserve a comment.
Just found your channel a little while ago and have watched a decent amount of your uploads, and they are simply amazing. You got the all the elements spot on when it comes to produce and present a visual product that the viewer will cherish. I have subscribed and enjoyed the uploads from Fototripper, Simon Booth, Mark Denney, Thomas Heathon, Adam Gibbs, Owen Clark, Simon Baxter, Mads Peter Iversen and so on and so on - and enjoy them very very much. But you simply have that extra touch and presentation with the perfect balance of different types of filming, dialog, music, creativity and scenery wich makes you one of the top photo youtubers out there. I`m a part time freelancing adventure/outdoors journalist from Norway, and I feel really inspired after watching your videos - I just want to get out there and produce the best photos I can on an epic hike somewhere. So thanks for all the work you do and let us viewers enjoy the show. Cheers!
Pebbles! Good to see you again! Oh yeah...you too, Nigel.
One can tell you get relaxed when doing woodland photos.. thanks for an inspiring message again.
Compared to the cluttered woodlands I have in my area (Southern Ontario) I swear the UK woodlands look as though they have groundskeepers! Another great episode! ;-)
Some woodland areas are managed by the woodland Trust just because some of the wildlife relies on the woods being managed for their survival. Especially such as the more rare Butterfly we have like the Brown, White-Letter and purple Hairstreak butterflies but for the most part, the woods are left alone.
I recently came from the rainforests of Vancouver Island to the denseness of Newfoundland. I miss these big trees.
Alderley Edge looking beautiful Nigel . Fog forecast for Sat morning 11th👍
Pebbles! Lovely area to enjoy. Love Autumn, my favourite season.
I am glad your dog was not getting into my car afterwards. Lovely video Nigel.
It was so lovely to see your assistant Pebbles again, including her mudpack beauty treatment! Thanks for a very informative and special video and lovely images.
I just wanted to thank you for your videos. I watch them on Sunday mornings with a cuppa. I always enjoy the content and sharing of your experiences. So thank you for taking the time to film and produce these videos, but most of all, thank you for your enthusiasm for your love of photography which I love.
"It doesn't get better than this" 😁
Pebbles! Yay! Great video, as always. Can't wait for next week's upload!
Beautiful and peaceful video, great tips and so lovely to see Pebbles again 🌿
Thanks Nigel. And also for your great talk at The Photography Show. Loved it - thanks for so many tips.
I really enjoying watching your videos about woodland photography.
I was thinking at the beginning that Pebbles was so clean, and then wondering how long it would last. 🐶 Yup, looking behind you is key. Good thoughts! 👍 🥂
Great to see Pebbles. Hi Nigel, great video this week.
Another cinema-quality masterclass!
Thanks Roger
It’s really beautiful there! Thanks for sharing!!
Beautiful,love my woodlands,especially in Autumn!
Always look behind you. Excellent tip!
I am sooo ready for Autumn! We are seeing some signs of it already! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
great video.and great excuse to get out and explore !
Lovely video and great tips. 🙂 I get so excited this time of year with the misty days and brilliant colours. 🍁 Nice to hear someone else get excited about overcast days!
Thank you sir for your great videos!
Great tips! thank you
Your images and your video are food for thought and, even better, food for the soul. Something about the way you describe the scene, with trees and nature, is so inspiring! Thank you Nigel. I’m off out to find some inspirational trees.
My favourite time is Autumn in the woods, so many lovely colours created by nature. Thanks for the tips Nigel.
This will be my first autumn since I started photography and I'm so excited! Thankful for the great tips Nigel!
Sunday morning ND fix - all is right with the world! Soooo love this time of year & the anticipation of the autumn colours. Your video also hints at the great opportunity for some awesome macro photography in the woods at this time of year with the arrival of the fungi. Gotta get down & dirty though.
Thanks for the effort and quality in these educational and inspiring videos 🙌
Pebbles loves the mud…thanks Nigel for these tips on finding composition and scouting out
Love your scouting video. And the way Pebbles looks after she took a mud bath is how I look after I visit my local woodlands
Hi Nigel, great video this week, Pebbles included. There are some marvellous woodlands photos in it, looking forward to your new book Woodlands The Return!
Preparing an upcoming shoot, revisiting a location and also checking out the light around sunrise is what I really have learned from your videos and it delivered recently. Very inspirational, so a big thank you!
Loved this video, Nigel! And, Pebbles is adorable!
Looks like a well maintained park!
Great video, useful tips too. Thanks for the stimulus, I'm off to the woods now (in the rain)
Another great video and several lessons there, Nigel. I was out scouting a smallish woodland yesterday near us both (closer to you than me) that was new to me in preparation for this coming autumn. The birch leaves have just started turning and the ferns too but the oaks are still that dark green - definitely worth going back to in a couple of weeks. Really looking forward to this autumn, hoping to get some better planned shots over the latter part of September and first weeks of October before we go on a two week trip around the Glencoe area.
Beautiful! I watch your videos for years and I learn a ton from you. I wish you would make episode about how you approach to video making . We all know you as a landscape photographer but you are also an excellent storyteller. Thank you for for sharing your passion and knowledge. I wish you good light and no pain in your back🙏.
Thank you for eploring woodlands that are very similar to the ones I find in my part of Canada.
Great video Nigel. I'm just planning out my autumn shoot locations at the moment and nice to get some reminders about shooting in woodland as its easy to forget from one year to the next. Can't wait to see how your images turnout from these locations when you get back later in the autumn.
I’m seeing a lot of landscape photographers have moved to Twitter trying to avoid the algorithms, I’m in the south and it’s spring or almost depending who you ask. I love your channel for learning. Thank you for your content and your ability to get your lessons across.
Hi, Nigel.
Very nice video, as always. Beautiful views and landscapes and a very clear explanation of what to be aware of 'off season'.
Nice to see you without a hat on! I think it's the very 1st time in a video :-D
Cheers.
Funny I was thinking watching the video before this that we hadn’t seen pebbles in a bit ❤️ photos were beautiful as usual and lots of great information thanks
It's really interesting to see your thought process when looking for compositions. I like this video a lot, thank you.
Great video Nigel. So many valid points raised in this video. Great location too. I enjoy woodlands as you have pockets of light to work with which can make images look a lot more interesting. Autumn is probabaly one of my favourite times of year to get out with my camera as their are so many interesting tones and colours to work with. I sometimes feel portrait can work better than a landscape as it helps me emphasise on the depth and length of a subject. Getting out very soon to shoot something new with some new changes. Thanks for sharing Nigel. Always find your content helpful and inspirational. Thak you for sharing! :)
More great tips. I will be revisiting the locations I shot in the spring to see how they’ve changed. But you know the best part of this video was Pebbles in the mud 😁
Magical
Great again😍👍
Thanks, Nigel
10:32 Classic Pebbles
Excellent Nigel as always, thank you. My job is a Sound Designer, I spent most of my career working for Discovery I’ve always admired the audio quality of your videos, the entire production is constantly top notch
Pebbles is a very happy dog. I enjoying seeing her having fun in the woods with you. She sure found a nice place to cool down. I had a couple of Golden Retrievers that would have done the same thing.
Thank you for another very helpful Sunday vlog! BTW, Sennheiser is primo. My husband used their mics for years in his music work.
Another lovely, educational video, Nigel. 👍🦘😄🇦🇺
Great to see Pebbles - looks like Pebbles is trying to assist in finding compositions or is it rabbits, squirrels or a bit of mud😉. Wonderful area you were exploring, extremely inspirational
Hi, I got a 100-400 and it has transformed my woodland shots because of the details..... Eye-opener
LOVED the second to last photo!💛. It was relaxing for us to watch you scout around with Pebbles:)
Great video as usual! This was the perfect warm up as I'm literally on my way out for a sunset shoot. Give Pebbles a hug from me and keep up the good work:)
Great video as always Nigel. Inspiring and timely too! as I’m up first thing tomorrow morning to visit my local woodland and aiming to capture some shots with sunrise penetrating the canopy. Exciting :-)
Thanks
Really enjoyed the video Nigel! Here in Norway, the leaves have started their change and I have been waiting to get out and see what shots may be out there? Timely and very helpful. And the last tip you make is right on, but I would add: just do not look behind you but all around, it is amazing what you might find that the average person walking through the woods, just misses….
I didn’t miss a video as of the beginning of your channel and in every video your view and shared info on a season or a subject is inspiring. Each video is basic info of a location awareness to capture the best possible atmosphere
Thanks so much
I love your dog
Congratulations with the new title Mr. Nikon Ambassador :-)
Great video! I was nor aware of the fact that a “simple” tree photo may require so much work and preparation. Respect! PS love your book!
Definitely not easy but therein lies the challenge!!
15:23 Spectacular colours, light and composition! I'd give one of my kidney stones to have a wood like that near my house!
Yeah - I am lucky.
We dont have many woodlands but I found a great creekbed which serves a similar purpose with lots of River Red Gums and its only a few minutes away. I find it hard to go to locations in the dark as we have a lot of kangaroos on our roads in the night hours, they are notorious for jumping out in front of you and making a mess of your car. I work in sound post production in the film industry and we also use Sennheiser gear.
Your video colors are amazing!
Thanks
Masterpiece. Or should I say: Masterpeace? haha
So excited to see those shots when the leaves turn! I live in Texas so we don't get much of an autumn scene (except in select locations and even then it's definitely not ideal) so I will be living vicariously through you. Also, Pebbles has got to be the cutest dog in the world!
Yeah - I drove through Texas once. Looked like a tricky state for landscapes. I suspect there some spots though.
Arizona here. Autumn won't happen until late November or early December.
Really loved to see Pebbles, happy and playful, running around, ignoring all your good photography and 'stay-out-of-the-mud' advice ;-) Thanks for again an interesting video learning us how to scout! Although I know you've shown that before, it would be nice to have some tips on how you edited the pictures in this video.
Back in my film days I would listen to experts give small or short forecasts about the approaching autum. Use to hear how the "colors" depended rain amounts, "temps"..not enough or too much would hinder a good autumn..But during the good season...Had a blast
Great video Nigel. I don't have any experience with their mics, but Sennheiser headphones are awesome. I've used then for years.
Awesome pictures and amazing environments. Keep it up bro, wishes from india 🇮🇳
Great video once again! If woodlands relax you, your videos of woodlands relax me 😁 (others too 🤫)
That Sennheiser ... It's clear that it has a very good match with the Z 6ii. Microphone professionals will know everything about impedance matching between a microphone and the pre-amp you connect it to. In the early days of Z 6/7 some "influencers" in their videos complained about the camera's audio performance with a third party microphone. And those microphones had bad impedance matching to begin with - but then what did these influencers know. Well, good to see you chose a trusted brand and hear in the video's audio that it works very well.
At the final image, I feel the composition is a notch better than the image. The trunk of the right background tree have a bit more space to the edge in the video😉
A great video with some stunning images you’ve created👏🏻👏🏻 Thanks for the inspiration Nigel👌🏻
Haha man your dog does the same thing my dog does when he spots a good mud bog 😂. Makes for a very stinky drive home
I agree with your sounds comments, Nigel. I usually use my Apple AirPods Max and I can tell the difference. Your videos' sound quality is better than other photographers I follow.
There's another photographer I stopped following because of the sound quality. 🤷♂️
A good idea to scout for Autumn shots. Thanks.
14:54 You are the magician😁
I LOVE YOUR DOG 🐕
Hi Nigel, another excellent video. Could you share the specific model of the Sennheiser Lapel Mic you’re using in the field? Thanks Mario
For some reason my blood pressure drops when I watch your videos - Pebbles gets some credit. And I learn some valuable tips on photography. As always, thanks for putting these out!
Nigel, around 4:50 you discuss sunrise/sunset and the sun's travel relative to the compass (Northern Hemisphere). And conclude that it is probably best to shoot in a certain direction at sunrise or sunset. And there's a reference to fog in there. That's all fine and appreciated. Let me add this perspective: "it depends". Your point of view implies (the way you talk about it) a landscape lit from behind the camera/viewer. Imagine a foggy morning and the deciduous trees are about barren. If you shoot that lit from behind you, the water particles in the air reflect a lot of light back at you. It's a bit like driving your car through the fog with high beam. The trees will be properly lit and landscape too, but the question is how exciting that will be - either way will result in soft toned shots. This lit from behind shot may work in the situation, but more likely will not. If you were to shoot this type of landscape diametrically opposed, then you have the dark side of the trees and the foggy softening, but still can make out whit is in the fogginess (assuming we never thought of dense fog - that would be pointless almost). And this is where your lesson comes in. In order to evaluate this alternative I describe, you probably have to go to another location and viewpoint, or as you imply, go there at sunset and hope for evening fog. 12:20 very nicely illustrates the use of fog and the direction of the sunlight relative to the optical axis as between the trees the position-origin of the light is more hidden.
Let me add that your portfolio and these lessons clearly illustrate that you understand all this :).
Thanks for the insight of your photography tips, but for me I just go out and take my camera with me just in case I see something I like. It must be nice to have woodlands close by. Pebbles seems to be having a great day.....Summer time is not a good time for woodland photography, like many others I just cant wait for autumn and winter.....Thank you.
Hi Nigel, would you consider doing a video on editing your woodland photos?
Also, it would be nice if your masterclass modules (vistas, seascapes and woodlands) could be purchased separately, have you considered selling them as separate modules that you can unlock?
Good to see you can switch the lights on at 14:54 when telling about your subject 😅
Great video. What is with Springer Spaniels. Mine will find the most disgusting things to lay and roll in. The worst was a decomposing seal carcass. The smell was foul and my car needed a full valet to get rid of the smell.
Cheers Nigel, it’s Sean in Atlanta. This was an excellent video, as usual, but I want to tell you that whatever camera and lens you are filming this on is absolutely stellar and gives it an otherworldly feel! It is really extraordinary and perhaps it is only me, but I had to tell you how magnificent the colour and the Bokeh is! Wow! Good show!
Sean
Thanks - nikon Z6ii and mostly 50mm 1.8 prime
@@NigelDanson it was so beautiful! Thanks!
Pebbles!!! The ferns in that woodlands has me very jealous. I can't find any near me that look that lush. Thanks for the tips. And thanks for bringing Pebbles back, I've missed seeing her.
All the images are great but the last one is amazing! I often look behind me and it’s incredible how the light catches something and it’s perfect. Hope Pebbles enjoyed his bath.
The last two images are my favourites, the gentle sunset light warm the hole scene. Btw, I notice that you mentioned marked two trees in the map, is it just a google map or outdoor app? could you recommand some app when you are out on scouting that can record trails and sepcial location in case of next visiting? TKS, and lovely dog!
Yes I agree I feel rude not shooting some spots I always pass :-)
Great planning tips for autumn photoging. Also, awesome final image, but hard to see with all the CZcams links 😕
Hi Nigel , great tips and amazing to see Pebbles again. That was funny when she was stuck in the mud. Thanks again mate for you sharing your tips. Take care.
Nigel there's a piece of music you used in this clip , do you know what it's called? It's the piano music ? At 13mins 20 seconds... could you let me know.
Very nice and inspiring video! I am awaiting an autumn woodland trip myself. Nigel, if I may ask - do you edit your films on a 30 fps timeline? I can´t really wrap my head around 24/25 vs 30 fps and the whole 3:2 pulldown issue with monitors.
I am SO busy getting the best of my forests before they turn into yellow, orange, and red dead colors xD
Literally love your Videos Peter ❤️ and same goes for your Pictures and Nigel🤗🤗🤗
Ha ha - one day you can come and see what real forests look like 😉
Really? Guys so happy with this smal gardens I won't screw it up mentioning a real a forest like Mata Atlântica, Cerrado or Amazon.
I wanted to see a battle of woods photography between you two. Monthly presenting your best ones and we vote! Do you guys have the courage?
