Stephen Bardo discusses Illinois' commitment of Will Riley, 5 Star from Canada. We'll discuss Preseason Top 25 Big Ten teams and which Big Ten players expect to hear their names called on NBA Draft Night!
Thanks for bringing up Andy Kaufman. He was a tremendous player. I saw Andy score 49 points against East St.Louis Lincoln at the Bowl in Jacksonville Il. Jacksonville actually won that game. East St. Louis had LaPhonso Ellis on that team and I believe they went on to win State that year. It was a tremendous performance by Andy. I'll never forget it.
Mr. Bardo you were my favorite player on the Fighting Illini.... I was always impressed with how hard you played. Wow!!! You have been killing it with the podcasts!!! So proud of you!!!
This is the deepest roster I've seen in 35+ years of watching Illinois basketball. It guarantees nothing in terms of wins and losses, but the potential is there for this to be a very good team.
Ron Harper before this catastrophic knee injury was extremely athletic. Pre-injury was the closest thing to Micael Jordan during that stretch. Pos-injury he has to redefine his game to a large point guard.
Riley will be starting by BIG season. He is heads and tales above. Also, the "days of bigs" question really comes down to the question of can the big defend beyond the paint and can they score/shoot beyond the paint. Nobody is turning down 7 footers who can shoot the three, attack the rim and defend both the perimeter and the interior! That is is just not who Edey is.
1:03:42 Pretty sure Trent and Ayo weren't that far off that mark their freshman year and both averaged double digits as freshman (all be it on bad teams)
You’re going back years to make your point. If it’s that obvious you’d be able to name a few who are doing it now. Trent is 6’2, Ayo is 6’5. Will is 6’8. 6’8 180 is different
@@BardoMediaHow do you know he’ll be 180 by the time the season starts? I trust your intel more than mine, but I’d honestly be very surprised if he doesn’t start the year AT LEAST 190. Cody Williams - there’s your example of a current player. 6”8 190, PAC 12 FOY, and gonna be a lottery pick.
Riley can shoot but you don't get a starting spot on Big Daddy Brad's time by raining threes; dude's going to have to get strong and defend in the B1G. What if Jasper decides he wants to play again with Jeremiah and Morez??? THAT would be something. Illinois with some long players and a deep bench. How hard is it going to be to defend Illinois?
1:03:42 Rob Dillingham? Averaged 15 PPG for KY and is a projected lotto pick at sub 180? Bryce McGowens? Averaged 17 PPG for NEB and is playing in the NBA right now at sub 180? I bet there are quite a few
@@BardoMedia So you're saying 6"1 180 guys (even though Rob is not 180) can get starter minutes but a 6"8 180 guy can't? Only because he's 7 inches taller? You do realize he's got pretty much the same skillset of a 6"1 - 6"2 combo guard?
@@BardoMedia Just think the Big Ten over the last 5 years has been weaker than it’s ever been in my lifetime. There are not killers in the league like when you played. I don’t buy any of them as top 10. Purdue and Indiana are top 25. Illinois and is borderline top 25. Maybe UCLA and Rutgers. Outside of the first three I mentioned there are like 6 Big Ten teams between 30-45 perhaps.
@@BardoMedia Not the Big Ten, that I know for sure. This coming season it looks like the Big 12. Probably, followed by the SEC and then the Big East. After those three there is a significant gap. Big Ten might be 4th, might. I wish the Big Ten was at the same level it was when you played but I have to acknowledge the truth.
Great story on Andy K. Thx for sharing!

Thank you Greg! Much appreciated
Of course Illini isn't ranked. They always sleeping on us. Just with the players we got right now. I see Illini winning the big ten again.

Coach will have some team building exercises for sure! Two starting fives at least
Preseason ranking in college bb is pretty difficult these days. Thanks Steve

Will Riley is real wily.

The Bigs are like atomic weapons. No one wants to use them, but you have to have them.
High turnover on the roster is what keeps then unranked but they'll be in the top 15 before the tournaments begin
Arkansas has as much if not more turnover and they are ranked 13th! That's why they call if Way Too Early Preseason Top 25
Andy never saw a shot that he didn't like
Its a crime that Indiana and Illinois don't play twice a year!~

Rob is 6’1. You’re talking totally different size as Riley is 6’8. I don’t think they are quite a few.
@@BardoMedia Bryce is 6"7?

Big Ten is not good. 6 teams ranked is crazy. Maybe 3 maybe.
Non of the 18 teams are good? Who do you like?
