  • Scorched Earth Toys @anymoon.com and / anymoondotcom compares Bandai's DX VF-1 toys to the previous head of the class, Yamato's 1/60 scale version 2 VF-1 (now sold by Arcadia). Curious what Bandai has done with their larger scale to give them the title of greatest VF-1 on the market? Wondering if it's so good you need to ditch your 1/60 collection? Nice video.... Thanks for sharing the breakdown between them. I come from the extreme early days of Yamato and Toynami MP Robotech Valks. Those early Yamato models were so bad and such a pain to deal with, I completely walked away from Yamato. Makes me wish I had jumped back in when the V2 stuff started coming out. However, I do have both of the new Bandai Talks, and they are AMAZING!!! Such a far cry from the original stuff we got in the mid 80s.

    Just got the DX - yellow model today from Japan. It was a nightmare for me to transformed it becouse some parts fell off and those metal joint at the hip was really hard to attach and the metal holder from the body came off quite easly. I spened almost 4 hours to make it right and efter that, i repack it back in the box and more or less put it away becouse it was really pain in the ass to play with. It was my childhoods dream to get one of it but i feel that i will break it somehow if i continue to play with it. For almost 400 dollar i have to say to myself to play with it very carefully. Good luck to ya´ll out there who wants to get these items.

    Luckily I still got all my Yamato VF-1 1/60 scale V2's, I THINK I might have a V1 somewhere buried deep in the boxes of loss. But it's interesting to see these Bandai DX's are roughly the same as the old 1/48's in size. Those were fantastic toys back in the day and I loved collecting them, kicking myself when I eventually had to sell them to make room for other things.
    Maybe one day I'll get back into it. I still have a number of the Frontier and 30 figures, and will ALWAYS love and cherish and keep my VF-30G in the damn box!

    no sabia eso de que los Bandai DX no incluyen misiles, IMPRESENTABLE y encima que te los vendan por separado es reirse en tu cara. La primera vez que tuve un 1/60 de Yamato v1 fue teniendo en cuenta que disponian de varios modelos, incluyendo versiones super, strike y armored en un solo pack, pese a sus problemas (coloracion amarilla, transformacion y fragilidad) lucian increibles comparados al resto de la competencia, sobretodo en el modo fighter. Luego la evolucion con v2 fue todo mucho mejor, incluyendo mas modelos y lineas (destroids) que creo es la mayor fortaleza de Arcadia/Yamato, tener una flota completa de diferentes modelos en la misma escala. Comprar un DX ahora es quizas dejar tu compra huerfana a futuro.

    • @Gridseeker
      @Gridseeker Před 5 měsíci

      Totalmente de acuerdo: una tremenda falta de respeto y a su vez una tacañería la de Bandai de no incluir siquiera un par de misiles y tal como dices, hasta Yamato en sus VF-1 fue bastante generoso en cuanto a accesorios, incluyendo varios misiles, más aun al precio que lo sacaron. Por cierto: tengo varios VF-1 del primer molde de Yamato, pero hace poco empecé a adquirir los VF-1 del molde V2 de Yamato y JODER QUÉ CAMBIO, la mejora en el segundo molde escala 1/60 es abismal. En lo personal, estoy vendiendo mis "primitivos" Yamatos para adquirir sus contrapartes en el segundo molde y hasta ahora tengo: el VF-1S y VF-1A de Hikaru de la película DYRL, ambos con los fast packs, el VF-1A de Max y Kakizaki también de la película, el VF-1J de Hikaru de la serie con los boosters o fast packs y ya tengo reservado el relanzamiento de Arcadia del VF-1S de Roy Focker de la película, también con los fast packs. Ahora cruzo dedos para que Arcadia pueda lanzar el resto de los VF-1, en particular el VF-1D, los VF-1J de Max y Miriya y el Ostrich y Elintseeker. En todo caso y si me lo preguntan: aun con sus problemas y diseño ya desfasado y superado, el primer molde de Yamato sigue valiendo una misa, léase mal no se ve.

      No, Yamato's 1/48 and 1/60 V2 are different beasts although you might be able to draw some conclusions from this video. I will probably do a Yamato 1/48 vs Bandai DX video when the DX Hikaru VF-1S comes out.

      @@ScorchedEarthToys I didn't like the girly arms of the 1/48. I remember how people referred to the hands as "rats claws" because they looked too effeminate which is ironic since a valkyrie is a female warrior. haha. But 1/48 still had one thing to beat the 1/60 and that was the gimmicks. The bandai to me is the replacement for the older 1/48 yamato. This is why I want one so bad. I would be willing to trade old 1/48 low visibility for the new bandai 1/48. Low visibility 1/48 was my very first yamato 1/48. It holds a bit of sentimental value as it's what got me into collecting macross toys after seeing how amazing the job they did. I was not an "army builder" as they say but let's just say it's what started my addiction to this plastic crack.
      You know how transformers have conventions called "Bot Con"? They need a macross convention called Mac Con for fans of the shows which will be place for other collectors to meet up and trade and find convention exclusive stuff. (ie clear plastic "ultra low visibility valkyrie" and other crazy ideas that would allow toy company to test market for new toy. The unofficial paintschemes that are popular then can get made as limited edition releases by the toy company if demand is high enough) In the transformers world they also have third party toy companies that make characters from the transformers with unique design. Would like to see this for Macross toys. Imagine unique VF-1 design that is modernised for today. IE instead of the classic gatling gunpod it has rail gun and drone scout system to see further ahead in robot mode? Something cool for third party toy makers to do and then sell at these conventions. I remember one guy came up with an idea for a transforming Spartan Destroid. Would love to buy a toy of that idea.

    Hi Scorched. It's been a while since I hung out at the macrossworld boards. I still collect Macross Toys and was wondering where the hell you guys buy your Bandai stuff nowadays? I have been sinking more money into transformers these days (easy availability) and still haven't obtained the Bandai DX VF-1 but really really want one. To me I stopped getting Bandai toys after how hard it was to obtain the Macross Frontier stuff and just gave up because I knew how much hoops I had to jump just to beat the scalpers hahah and said "Ok after this, no more bandai stuff, they simply don't care enough about the guy outside japan when it comes to macross, but seem to flood the market with Gundam merchandise which is their baby". The last thing I remember buying from them was the MK II Monster DX thing. I would probably buy their stuff if it was as easy to get as other toys but you either have to pay the ebay wallet-destroying prices or spend all night and day on japanese seller sites which the scalpers are always on and miss out if you weren't awake at the right hour in the morning to snatch a toy before it went out of stock. Has this problem of supply been solved these days? I may come back to the macross boards again one day but I just got sick of collecting things after I realised how hard it was to get stuff. My brother my be going to the philipines on an overseas trip and I might stand a better chance obtaining this Bandai DX VF-1. I have noticed that it is now easy to buy Gundam Model kits in the local toy stores here in australia. Toys R us sells them now. But no Macross LOL Is Harmony Gold stil giving collectors a hard time by blocking these toys for sale locally still?

    • @ScorchedEarthToys
      @ScorchedEarthToys  Před 4 lety

      Man I hear collecting in Australia is tough these days. Afraid it's still nearly impossible to get Bandai Macross products (though the Hi-Metal R toys are occasionally easy to grab). I don't have a trick, I'm up when all the stores go live with preorders scrambling from site to site just trying to get one while the sites all crash from the traffic and I get error messages about the item being sold out as I'm still processing my transaction. It's a nightmare. I completely failed to get a Max 1A on preorder night but fortunately it was over-scalped and easy to get shortly after release for pretty close to MSRP.

    • @UToobUsername01
      @UToobUsername01 Před 4 lety

      @@ScorchedEarthToys LOL I thought so. I kinda wish Arcadia/Yamato whatever they want to call themselves these days had exclusive toy rights on this property. I remember how easy it was to buy them from Hobby Link Japan back in the days when they overproduced the toys. Now it's extremely tough. I will eventually cave and pay the wallet destroying price if I fail to get this guy. But I am going to see how easy it is in asian market. I think my dad may know some of these toy dealers from the old days when he was in the toy biz. Will have to figure out way to bring stuff back. The thing that scares me: there will be a hollywood live action movie on Gundam and it will be their big push to get Gundam into the west (not as anime for robot show nerds but mainstream audience) . If this thing takes off like the live action trasnformers michael bay stuff, bandai will have no incentive to care as much about us little macross peasants who are begging for more macross toy love. What do you think of the chances that if the live action gundam movies does well there will be a "Robotech" equivalent? hehe Would be interesting to see. One of the things that shocked me was when Transformers Bumblebee came out they stopped going with ugly michael bay looking robots and trying to appeal to more traditional design sensibilities of the comics and toon. And the fans responded positively to this! The movie didn't do too well but it at least means better toys. My hope is that some of these hollywood guys eventually get Macross license, buy out HG, do a macross live action flick, not make ugly designs and have shoji kawamori involved in the mech design. Then merchandise for it appear in local toy and hobby shops so we can finally buy these bloody things hahah. Just like how you can go out and buy a gundam kit in ToysRus now. When the push for giant robot shows is big, it would be perfect timing for a Robotech/macross movie with a big budget which can lead to proper toyline. (bandai can produce these and make a killing - but someone has to figure out what to do about the HG legal thing first)

    • @ScorchedEarthToys
      @ScorchedEarthToys  Před 4 lety

      @@UToobUsername01 Yamato ran themselves out of business and the result is that Arcadia is a much more conservative company, so much fewer toys made, demand hasn't changed much, prices shoot up.I would love to see Bandai incorporate Macross into more of their lines (Soul of Chogokin, Metal Build, etc.) and that might make things better. As to movies, I have zero belief Robotech will make it to live action, the rights are a disaster and any studio would be better off creating their own mecha show rather than reworking Robotech into something unrecognizable just to slap the name Robotech on it. Hollywood has done crazier things though. Good luck on your toy hunt!

    • @UToobUsername01
      @UToobUsername01 Před 4 lety

      @@ScorchedEarthToys Will do and keep up the videos! I guess if I can't get the big guys I can turn to HiMetal lines. My idea is this: they scrap Robotech name, make a starship troopers type movie but scientists develop mecha as an equivalanet to deal with giant alien threats which the troops can't handle. The introduction of valkyrie style transforming fighters turns the tide of the war and becomes the norm for most conflict offworld. Destroid line is created for ground missions which may be best for cave exploration and base defense and the air mechs for manueverability and speed (weakness is they have lighter weapons so dealing with heavy takes longer until the heavy fighter is developed). Anti-mecha weapons are developed which creates a need for ironman-style powered armor suits for regular troops. The fact of the matter is american made movies just need to learn fro mthe mistakes of micahel bay transformers movies and hire proper mech designers in the same way japanese game companies already do for games like Armored Core series and this solves the problem of using the name. Forget the name and get the talented mech designer and you will have awesome toyline. There is no reason (other than the legal crap) that we can't have a live action robotech-style movie made given how good the CG digital vfx are today. The opening battle scene in transformers bumblebee proves we can have good action scenes in a mech/robot show adapted for the big screen to look realistic without betraying the franchise. (but supported by big budget to pull off the big battle scenes common in star wars movies) Live action gundam will be the test. If that takes off in a big way in the west and toy sales increase, it will be time to a get robotech-like(without the name) movie made. In Ready Player One we got a sneak peak of what gundam could be in the movie. Now replace that with valkyrie. *drool*

    For the longest time, I was unaware Yamato released a TV VF- 1A Max. Bummer. I feel like Bandai just improved the 1/48 & 1/60 Yammies, reduced them to Hi Metal R size, and then blew it up to 1/48 sacle. The rear segment, where the backpack meets the leg, looks better in the Yamato. That said the Bandai TV 1A is perhaps the best ever on most modes. The Yamato are easier and faster to transform.

      Be that as it may, technology has improved considerably. . Plus You can tell Bandai used ideas from the Yamato 1/60 and 1/48 scale in their Dx 1/48 and Hi-Metal [R] series. Yamato and Arcadia may lack tampo, but they were the first to give us a very well engineered Valkyrie. I still think Bandai's DX is not the ultimate Valkyrie, but it is close to it, and the best we have so far.
