Yes, we need an adequate food supply. However, we already have this. Enough food is already produced to feed as much as 10 billion people. The critical issues are food waste, unequal distribution of and limited/no access to food, as well as diet preferences of high meat quantity - which requires more land, water, energy and resources overall, and contributes much more to climate change than plant based alternatives. Adaptation of crop to manage climate change is very important though, but there's really no need for increasing yields and focusing on food availability. Improving access, reducing waste and transitioning to plan based diets are the key factors today. How do you work with these fields of reseach? Kind regards, MSc student in rural development.

Thanks for your comments! We have an adequate food supply in Europe, America, maybe - but this is only because crop breeding is continually improving. For many regions, plant based diets are simply not feasible economically or environmentally. We have projects looking at improving forage for cattle, for instance, in areas of Africa where pastoral farming supports many smallholder farmers and communities. In terms of increasing access and reducing waste, that's for other institutes to tackle! The core of our research is in enabling the wider scientific community, as well as industry and breeders, to better understand all of life so that we can continue to produce robust and resilient crops that continue to provide surpluses - hopefully all over the world. Our projects do look also at how we can increase socioeconomic well being alongside food security, with specific projects in Tanzania and elsewhere, where we look at improving aquaculture practices, for example.

How can such informative materials reachout the entire agro-vale chain especially in emerging economies?

How do you show people to be a complete different person ?

The solution is very easy but the population struggles to gain the willpower to do so, with power and authority we are seeing the collapse of our humanity, ocean, and entire existence sooner than we think. If videos and information on the food system directly addressed that we should reduce meat consumption many of our problems would be reduced; the fish industry... people going into supermarkets thinking they're purchasing fish that have just been killed 'innocently' from the ocean, little do they know the 'dolphin safe' sticker on tuna cans are a lie, dolphins, whales and other sea creatures are dying... we are losing our fish population.. and in turn, our entire food chain will die. The ocean is home to our planet in many ways and we need the ocean to survive. Animal agriculture, land animals being killed on large slaughter houses, to kill even one pound of beef requires a shit ton of water... yet we are told to turn our taps off? Why don't we get told to just not eat the animals that are god damn keeping us alive and the world healthy? The worlds corrupt. Corporate power is destructive. Humans mindset is brainwashed. We may not see a blue ocean by 2050... what will our grand children see when they go to the beach? They will learn a history that 'there once dolphins that used to live here..' This makes me sick. Any way fish eat the plants that provide omega 3's but yt decide to kill and sell and market fish as a 'healthy' requirement. DO your research! Reduce YOUR meat consumption. Buy from farmers and local food suppliers. Be aware. Educate yourself!
