  • Watch these amazing Morgan horses and their riders compete in Class 71 at the Carousel Charity Horse Show held in Scottsdale, Arizona.
    The Morgan horse has always been one of my favorites, so I was glad to see a few classes of them at this horse show in 2023. And it's a joy to see young riders riding these Morgan horses to become the next generation to work with show horses.

    Equitation is 75% rider, 25% horse. Last time I showed. But that was 2007.

    About the second question the canter is suppose to be a calm collected gait and down correctly slower than the trot! Of course sometimes your horse is gonna get a bit speedy but over all a slow gait.

    I have that movie! Morgans are so beautiful and versatile. My favorite breed. Though I do love all horses. The only thing I don't like is when they let their tails grow so long they drag on the ground. But that's just me, I guess. Thank you for uploading these wonderful videos! 🤠

      You're welcome and I love those Morgan horses, too! For me it's about a three-way tie between them and saddlebreds and Arabians. Thanks for your comment and I'm glad you are enjoying the videos!

      I don't think these Morgans are anything like Figure and the original breed. They've had too much infusion of the peacock breeds. Too light and thinly built. Remember that in addition to being fast, Morgans could also hold their own logging and plowing. These horses are pretty, but have got away from the versatile conformation of the original.

    • @MagnificentHorses
      @MagnificentHorses  Před 8 měsíci

      @@NavvyMom I'm not sure they're more fragile than the original breed that was like Figure, but I think they have gotten bigger over the years. Figure was a very small horse, which made his accomplishments that much more remarkable. It would be very interesting to see these horses try their hands--or hooves, as the case may be--at pulling logs.

      @@MagnificentHorses The change in conformation has only occurred within the last 50? or so years. I remember Morgans being more substantially/thicker built even back when I was a little kid. The Breyer model that came with Marguerite Henry's book "Justin Morgan Had a Horse" on which the movie was based is more like the old body type. I don't know that "fragile" is the word I should use to describe the newer type, but definitely leaner/lighter. I suppose the people who created this type would call it "refined". And yes, taller. I doubt they could pull logs as well as the older type. but they could surprise me.

    Equitation is judged on the rider’s position and how well they can control their horse and regulate speed as well as if they are in the bridle.
