I remember Pat Dye taking the team to the bubble after a losing effort like this. They practiced after the game. The players were missing from all the parties on campus. Pat Dye was mad as hell with his players.
That was Gen X. Gen Z players could never handle the coach being mean to them.

Little tired of Hugh talking about talent disparity and then producing that kind of an on field product against lower talent. If “the scheme” is THAT dependent on talent….there isn’t enough 5stars in the world. Speaks to a lack of culture and too much emphasis to the business of college football. It’s a bull**it excuse. BWill you nailed it. Should pay to have Takeo come terry tate the defense for a week or two. Wonder what Caddy thinks about all this? I agree, some coaches like the ones at NMSU are able to do more with less (Unranked - 3 stars). Then you have coaches like ours (excluding Caddy) whose schemes only seem to work if the squad is stacked with a bunch of NFL talent.

This season is the biggest let down to me in 47 years. Even the 3-9 team beat the cupcakes. This looks to me like Auburn picked up that Arkansas Mojo from their barbecue or something

I agree. Davis was always going to be the first to go because was never Freeze's first choice and the receivers have always been a big issue. I've been coming around to firing Montgomery too, because the play calling has been trash for most of the year and he has never been able to figure out to make the offense work with the players he has.

Davis is possibly why Auburn has flipped a 5* receiver from Bama and may be flipping Cam Colman too. How about get another on field receivers coach cuz you don't wanna cut him loose with those studs on board.

I graduated from Auburn in 2019. Safe to say since I’ve attended school we’ve been inconsistent. About to give up being a fan and go to a team with actual values/work ethic. This team doesn’t exemplify what the Auburn creed stands for.

Wednesday and Thursday not good practices. Freeze had already lost to NMSTlast yr when his team slept on em. What did he not do to make sure it doesn’t happen again, especially with superior talent. You mean to tell me Freeze allowed his team to come in complacent AGAIN?
An undisciplined and unmotivated team. The speed of the team is set by the leader. I saw more emotion from the NMS coach with poor performance than from Freeze. Freeze was out coached and the players were out played. I keep hearing or seeing hopes based on recruiting but if the coach can't get awesome individuals to play as a team and get motivated then it won't get any better.

When you have a Quarterback who is a coach’s son. He knows how to protect his numbers. You combine that with an RPO offense where he makes the majority of the decisions and you’ve got double the trouble. His QB numbers don’t look bad. But the “team” was 2-10 on 3rd down and gave up 4 sacks and 6 tackles for loss.

If you think the issue in this game was the starting QB, you need to do some rethinking.
I agree we only threw it 19 times and on some of those RPO decisions he choose to keep and run and New Mexico State was perfectly fine with that. The only drop came from Fromm which would have not counted anyway because of the penalty.
PT isn't the ONLY problem, but his performance or lack of the same has been front and center in every loss, he's average and less than frequently.
Have to find a better QB, he's never going to be any better, we've seen his ceiling and some forgot that during the 3 game winning streak against the bottom of the conference, it's back.

This does not compare to Saban/UA vs UL Monroe in 2007. That was 17yrs ago. This is just an embarrassing loss. AU talent alone should be able to beat this team in backyard ball style. Hugh was out coached. No recruiting isn’t impacted much from this.
Coaching staff def dropped the ball, but using yalls logic- I am just gonna start halfway trying and show no effort at my job and then blame my boss. I will let you know how that goes 👍
I’m always looking for an opportunity to jump on that offensive line, but I didn’t watch the game. The coach hasn’t been there for a whole year yet. Me, not being a coach, would have dropped every nil dollar I had access to in some linemen on both sides of the ball. He’s a coach though. I’m not. This still goes back to gus to me.

@@dr7820yes. We had no business losing to them with all the advantages we had. As a matter of fact, their ratings in the team talent composite (2017 UCF vs 2023 NMSU) are remarkably similar.
Stay with me here...recruiting rankings for years of 2018-2019-2010-2021-2022-2023 and even 2024...Auburn, 12-11-7-19-21-18, and 16 for 2024. Vandy, 41-57-52-49-32-52, and 38 for 2024. NMS, 123-119-126-112-108-113, and 149 for 2024. There is no 'program' at NMS, but HC there has done fine with what they have, which is mostly 2 stars sprinkled with some 3 stars.

My question for the WR, for the bowl game, do you play all of the young guys? Go Deion mode and tell your upper classmen QB and WRs might be best for you to transfer.
Freeze has been doing that all season by saying we don’t have enough talent at that position. He hinted multiple time that he doesn’t think the current players on the team are good.

Failure of the coaching staff, plain and simple. This wasn't a case of the team sleeping on NMST. When you sleep on a subpar opponent, you end up with a close win or maybe a close loss. This was a blowout loss at home against a lower tier G5 team. Embarrassing.

Freeze puts blame in himself and the staff in every loss as well as calling it like he sees it. Line dont block, qb cant see open recievers and db's not keeping up. He calls it out. Us fans aren't dumb we see what happens on the field and know it isn't all on the coaches

It’s the linebacker #30 he never hit gaps and he catch tackle. That’s why we cnt stop the run. Every team know this too. They throw the ball straight over his head or underneath Everytime. he also gets baited on the play action Everytime. I never seen him break up a pass or hit a gap for tackle for loss. Nooooo Aggression from the position. Asante is a proven good pass rusher/tackler. You sneak him into coverage and bring players from the other side. Trust him too make the open field tackle if they get the catch. Everything is just so obvious with Auburn every snap. Offense and defense. You can feel it boiling in your system soon as the ball is snapped. Stop doing the toss to Hunter get him to committee to the blocks in the zone then take that 1v1 with the linebackers. We running into the back of the lineman it gotta impact their blocking ability the next play. I should be the coordinator I could get a first down every drive. With any players!!
And a bad plan...any plan that counts on PT to be a major contributor in the running game against a decent team is flawed, he should be throwing the football not RB1.

Can we stop talking about how we need better players now. We've just watch a bunch of players who nobody recruited destroy an SEC team. Gee, I had a solution to your coaching issues that I have already shared but will be happy to share it again. Just modify the "get rid of Harsin trick. Spread a rumor that the coach is involved in something nefarious, boom, grounds for firing. You can pay out millions more (unless the rumor is juicy enough) and presto, problem solved. Then you can find some other sucker to come in and start the process all over again. You could have saved your selves a lot of time if you would have recorded all your criticism from the Harsin era, substituted Freeze's name a just replayed them for this year, all sounds the same to me. Hey, you might be able to get Brian back, he is currently unemployed. Wait even better, how about New Mexico's States head coach, he might take it if he wants to become a multi millionaire in two years. However he may not because it would be a step down from his current position.

Guess you don't remember the Georgia State game 2 years ago. Harsin set this team back and it would be even worse had he not blown the game against an Alabama team that was crapping itself all over the field at Jordan Hare end of the year. They win that game and Auburn is down for years or having to toss out more buyout.
Saban lost to La Monroe his first year but brought in one of his best recruiting classes on signing day. Auburn has flipped 5 star commits from Bama, UGA, and Florida. Change is coming.
Harsin is better off without that dumpster fire. He'll probably go to San Diego State.
@@billl1127 He got used to getting better talent than his competitors without having to recruit nearly as hard because Boise St was a destination school at that level. He came in preaching blue collar ethic work to players but didn't want to walk the walk when it came to the amount of effort it takes to compete for talent in the SEC. You have to be able to recruit against the Nick Sabans and Kirby Smarts of the world. He's only better off because now he's getting paid to do nothing instead of getting paid to not do enough.
@pickesc I actually agree with a lot of what you say. Harsin underestimated what he could do with available team talent and came up short in recruiting in his brief time there because he was an outsider and second, recruits were not looking at Auburn as a choice to begin with. It wasn't that he didn't put in the work. Auburn expects a one or two year miracle worker like Prime or Lincoln Riley. Problem is that's not the answer either. Time to hire someone and let the program develop and understand bad games happen
